Closing arguments in battle for Congress focus on abortion and immigrationBy Bridget BowmanBoth parties are zeroing in on very different issues as they make their closing arguments to voters in the battles that will determine control of the closely divided House and Senate. Meanwhile, immigration is the top topic in Republican ads, followed by Vice President Kamala Harris, taxation, President Joe Biden, and candidate character. Jon Tester and Sherrod Brown are looking to win over voters who will likely be supporting former President Donald Trump. Yet this season he is on pace to produce marks in passer rating, air yards per attempt, yards per passing attempt, quarterback rating, passing yards and interceptions that are better than in either of his previous MVP campaigns, in 2019 and 2023. Goff has been a model of efficiency, completing 74.1% of his passes while posting career bests in yards per attempt and passer rating. While other NFC contenders have struggled, Detroit looks arguably better than a season ago. By rushing for a league-leading 946 yards on 6.5 yards per carry — an incredible 1.1 yards more per rush than he averaged in that historic 2020 season — he’s taken pressure off of Jackson. In an interview with popular podcaster Joe Rogan, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance suggested that he and Donald Trump can win the “normal gay guy vote” and that families with transgender children are looking for an edge in Ivy League college admissions. An early portion of the interview focused heavily on transgender people and transition-related medical care, which Vance described as “pharmaceutical conversion therapy” for gay people. “I mean that’s what to me is so crazy about some of the hyper-left-wing reaction,” Vance responded. “Well, I think I’m probably going to pick you, but I don’t know, and I’m not ready to make a decision,” Vance recalled Trump saying. “We’re sitting there watching, like, some stupid show, ‘Emily in Paris’ on Netflix or something,” Vance said, before catching himself.

They said the swim school failed to protect them from an alleged predator by insisting that they change in an open area instead of providing them with a private changing area. “Goldfish failed in its basic duties and obligations to protect them from such harm,” states the lawsuit, which was filed in the Oakland County Circuit Court. “There’s nothing we can say about this right now,” a woman who identified herself as a manager at the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester said when contacted Wednesday by NBC News. Their clash has already drawn more ad spending than any other Senate race in history, eclipsing the $412 million spent in Georgia’s 2020 race between Jon Ossoff and David Perdue. While Moreno clings to Trump, Brown tends to avoid talking too much about national political figures from either party. “Sherrod Brown, he’s taking ads in like he’s my best friend,” the former president said Sunday during a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York. He also acknowledged the threat of ticket-splitters — and the importance of Trump having coattails long enough to carry Moreno along with him. But then-Rep. Tim Ryan, a Democrat who represented much of the area for years, lost it to Vance in the Senate race by 3 points in 2022.

The Mary Rose was one of the largest warships of the Tudor navy during King Henry VIII’s reign until it sank on July 19, 1545, during a battle against the French. The Mary Rose was one of them, and the flagship became the king’s favorite. The hull of the Mary Rose, supported by a steel cradle attached to a lifting frame, was raised on October 11, 1982. The research team used Raman spectroscopy, a nondestructive method that preserves valuable samples, to study the bones, Shankland said. “Investigating the impact of this on the spine would further our understanding of bone chemistry changes with age, but also with stress from activity.”

But new research suggests that one English woman convicted of witchcraft and condemned to be hanged may have escaped the noose. Alice Molland – who has long held the tragic record of being the last woman in England to be hanged as a “witch” – was sentenced to death in 1685. In June 1685, Avis Molland – by now widowed – emerges in court records as an informant about a potential revolt, at a time when the Duke of Monmouth was attempting a rebellion against the king. Avis Molland died a free woman eight years later. Worland has spent 18 years unearthing victims’ details, and has successfully campaigned to have memorials to executed “witches” in Colchester and Chelmsford.

Moore is the last person remaining on South Carolina’s death row to be convicted by a jury with no Black members, his defense attorneys say. “No other South Carolina death penalty case has involved an unarmed defendant who defended himself when the victim threatened him with a weapon,” they said in a statement. “He’s a human being who made mistakes,” Lyndall Moore told the AP. Moore’s attorneys responded Wednesday the case’s “unique procedural backdrop” should allow the justices to consider their arguments. Henry McMaster Meg Kinnard/APIn an earlier federal court request for a stay of execution, Moore’s attorneys expressed concern about McMaster’s past comments regarding clemency for death sentences, the ruling denying that request shows.

CNN —A “staggering array” of witches’ marks have been discovered on the walls of a Tudor property in England. News of the discovery, aptly timed to coincide with Halloween, was released by English Heritage, a charity that looks after hundreds of historic monuments, buildings and sites. These include a “staggering array” of designs, according to English Heritage, though there’s a notable concentration in the servants’ wing of the hall. Over the course of two years, long-time English Heritage volunteer Rick Berry discovered and mapped around 20 carvings at the Tudor property. In 2019, hundreds of witches’ marks were found scratched into the walls of an English cave system in the East Midlands, central England.

Early voting trends cannot predict the outcome of an election, but they can provide clues about who is voting – at least so far. Early voting in Georgia and North CarolinaWhile preelection turnout is generally down, Georgia is an outlier. Compared with the same point in 2020, early voting turnout is roughly the same – down just 1%, according to Catalist’s data. The state also now doesn’t accept mail ballots that arrive after Election Day, even if they are postmarked before the polls close. There’s also a clear partisan difference in how people are voting early in North Carolina.

“Hey hey, ho ho, thank you, Joe, it’s time to go!”The success of former President Donald Trump’s campaign is becoming a catastrophe for sitting President Joe Biden. By Mark MurrayThe razor-close presidential election could very well come down to this question: Will the infrequent voters who back Donald Trump by double digits actually turn out? And she carries the tiny share of voters who participated in 2022 but not 2020 by 9 points (52% to 43%). And he’s carrying the voters who didn’t partake in either 2020 or 2022 by 10 points (50% to 40%). On the other hand, NBC News recently observed a pair of focus groups of voters who didn’t participate in the 2020 election but are planning to this time around. Crapser made history as the first Korean adoptee to sue the South Korean government and his adoption agency for damages in 2019. As he awaits a court decision in Seoul, a bill that could grant him US citizenship remains stalled in Congress. CNN reached out to the adoption agency, Holt Children’s Services, for comment but did not immediately receive a response. In response to recent media reports about adoptions from South Korea in the 1980s, Holt International acknowledged the potential unethical practices in a public statement and noted Holt Children’s Services separated from Holt International in 1977. The Seoul High Court is set to render its decision on January 8 regarding Crapser’s seeking of monetary damages.
