Ackman, who met with a group of more than 200 Harvard students and faculty last week, said the university’s administration is not doing enough to protect them. “Harvard student disciplinary actions should not be outsourced to the police department,” he wrote. When contacted, Harvard directed CNN to earlier statements from Gay and Harvard’s Executive Vice President Meredith Weenick about community conduct. Ackman and others suggested there should be employment consequences for students who had signed the letter. In his letter, Ackman acknowledged the success of that message and suggested that Harvard administrators warn students of the potential consequences.

College campuses have always been bastions of protest, where young, energetic students push older generations in the direction of the next social or political reform. Notably, the prevailing notions of the liberal bent of college campuses are not incorrect. According to a 2023 survey by FIRE of roughly 1,500 four-year college professors, 50% identify as liberal, 17% as moderate, and 26% as conservative. Analysts say the recent inflammatory examples that have not only riven college campuses but altered the way many Americans view them also underscore the increasing difficulty observers in the U.S. have of sitting with complex developments. Many of the country’s most elite schools actually perform the worst, according to the 2024 College Free Speech Ranking by FIRE.

That time has now come, putting the price cap to its most serious test so far and underlining its weaknesses. NEW YORK, Oct 20 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Wall Streeters are trying to teach universities a lesson, but may provide them with a broader understanding of economics instead. The median family income for Harvard students is nearly $169,000, or about 2.5 times the U.S. average. Stockpiles of cash donated by Rowan, Ackman and other alumni also should theoretically make such institutions more accessible, but haven’t. Elite universities funnel many graduates to lucrative careers in finance and consulting, and studies have shown that social class often predetermines success. Ideally, Ivory Towers would price education closer to its actual value rather than what people are willing to pay.

Donors understand as well as anyone that pulling their funds won’t inflict significant financial damage on Ivy League institutions, which boast huge endowments, my colleague Nathaniel Meyersohn reports. But he said that financial threats from donors were not the right solution to influencing universities’ positions on these issues. At 5 million subscribers paying $3.99 a month, Snapchat+ is set to earn around $239 million in annual revenue. Still, analysts are intrigued by Snap’s user growth, especially for a company that’s been around for over a decade. “In my view, there’s significant value for a company that’s growing its installed base at this level,” said Angelo Zino, senior equity analyst at CFRA Research.

Citing the “absence of this clear moral standard,” the Wexner Foundation said it has determined the Harvard Kennedy School is no longer a “compatible” partner for its organization. CNN is not naming the site because it reveals the identities of students and other individuals without their consent. A conservative nonprofit said it organized the truck featuring the virtual billboards with students’ names and images under a banner that reads: “Harvard’s Leading Antisemites.”Palestinian human rights activists say doxxing is nothing new. They told CNN they’ve feared losing jobs and endured psychological harm for advocating for fair treatment of Palestinians under occupation – or for simply being Palestinian themselves. Doxxing is the release of personal information without a person’s consent, often with malicious intent, according to the International Encyclopedia of Gender, Media, and Communication. Despite the reality of harassment for Palestinian Americans, the student said, the current sense of hysteria on the Harvard campus is unprecedented.

New York CNN —A billboard truck drove near Harvard’s campus Wednesday displaying the names and photos of Harvard students whose organizations signed a statement blaming solely Israel for the deadly attacks by Hamas. Some students and their groups have since distanced themselves or withdrawn their endorsements from the statement amid an intense backlash inside and outside of Harvard. A conservative nonprofit said it organized the truck featuring the virtual billboards with students’ names and images under a banner that reads: “Harvard’s Leading Antisemites.” It also published names online. “We will continue to reject the PSC’s statement in the strongest terms — and demand accountability for those who signed it,” the statement added. In the wake of the mounting backlash, at least eight of the original 34 co-signing Harvard student groups had withdrawn their signature from the statement as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Harvard Crimson student newspaper.

An Education Department spokesperson confirmed its Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation at Harvard.
