New York CNN —Quaker Oats broadened its recall from last month to its granola bars, snacks and some varieties of its popular Cap’n Crunch cereal products sold nationwide due to possible Salmonella contamination. The packaged foods maker said Thursday it is recalling additional products that include more cereals bars and snacks. The affected products, listed by the US Food and Drug Administration now also include Quaker Chewy Granola Bars (Fruity Fun) Amazing Apple, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars (Fruity Fun) Amazing Apple and Splendid Strawberry Variety Pack, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars Yogurt Strawberry Flavor, Cap’n Crunch Treats Crunch Berries Cereal Bar, Quaker Chewy Granola Breakfast Cereal Strawberry, Cap’n Crunch Cinnamon Crunch Cereal and Cap’n Crunch OOPS! The CDC estimates more than 1 million cases of foodborne illness every year are caused by this bacteria. Since then state media has reported the satellite photographed cities and military bases in South Korea, Guam, and Italy, in addition to the U.S. capital. Commercial imagery of those cities on Nov. 27, the day North Korea says it captured its photographs, was not immediately available. The US Department of Defense released its annual China Military Power Report last week. The report says China's has increased in missile stockpiles, doubling its supply of the DF-21 missile. The increase in what an expert called "Japan Killers" gives China greater capability to threaten US bases. The People's Liberation Army Rocket Force's includes a significant increase in DF-21 medium-range ballistic missiles. The new figures were released last week in the Department of Defense's annual China Military Power Report.

In the update, the Pentagon assesses China bolstered its missile stockpiles, specifically its DF-26 supply. The report shows that in 2022, China increased the number of intermediate-range ballistic missiles from 300 in 2021 to 500. "Numbers like that could change the DF-26 from a 'carrier killer' to just a 'ship killer,'" he said. The Pentagon said that in 2020 China "fired anti-ship ballistic missiles against a moving target in the South China Sea, but has not acknowledged doing so." The Department of Defense told members of Congress at a briefing on Wednesday it planned to lease the Iron Dome systems back to Israel, the U.S. official and the congressional aide told Reuters. The transfer back to Israel could come within days, the congressional aide said. Biden promised replenishment of interceptors used by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system as well as ammunition in addition to redoubling the U.S. military presence in the region. In August 2022, Israel said Iron Dome interceptor had shot down 97% of Palestinian rockets it had engaged during a weekend surge of Gaza fighting.

The U.S. is preparing to send its Iron Dome air-defense systems to Israel, a senior Pentagon official said Thursday. The Army has two of the Israeli-developed Iron Domes, which have been tested in Guam, and an estimated 200 interceptors. Israel has 10 of the systems, which serve as its last line of defense against rocket and shell attacks.
