McCarthy made good on his promise to block former House Intelligence chair Adam Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell — both California Democrats — from serving on that panel. In addition to keeping Schiff and Swalwell off the Intelligence Committee, McCarthy previously said he intended to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from the Foreign Affairs Committee. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who backed McCarthy but has caused headaches for GOP leadership in the past, also got a slot on the panel. The coronavirus committeeRep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, will chair the special committee investigating the spread of the coronavirus. Last week, McCarthy named GOP members to a third select committee, focused on competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party.
WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego announced Monday he will run for the Arizona U.S. Senate seat currently held by centrist Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who left the Democratic Party in December to become an independent. In his statement Monday, Gallego said: “The problem isn’t that Senator Sinema abandoned the Democratic Party — it’s that she’s abandoned Arizona. Karrin Taylor Robson, who narrowly lost to Lake in the 2022 primary after spending $20 million of her family’s money, is seriously considering a Senate run, a source close to her said. And Mark Lamb, the Pinal County sheriff, is also considering a Senate run in 2024, said an Arizona Republican source. A Gallego adviser said he's prepared for a two-way race if Sinema steps aside or a three-way race if she chooses to run.
Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego officially launched his Senate campaign in Arizona on Monday. He said Kyrsten Sinema "abandoned Arizona" and branded her as an advocate for the rich and powerful. His launch tees up a likely 3-way race between him, the newly-independent Sinema, and a Republican. Gallego is well-positioned to win the Democratic primary after fellow Democratic Rep. Greg Stanton opted not to run for Senate. If Sinema runs as an independent, Arizona is likely to see a three-way race in the general election — a relatively rare occurrence.
SARASOTA, Fla. — A U.S. congressman from Florida who was seriously injured in a tree-trimming accident in Sarasota said Saturday he has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. A separate tweet said then that he had spent the night in the ICU after sustaining several injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. Steube also thanked staffers at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Saturday “for the excellent care” he received. Steube was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and just began his third term. He represents all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties and part of Lee County.

Florida GOP Rep. Greg Steube has been in Congress since 2019. Florida GOP Rep. Greg Steube was injured in an accident at his home on Wednesday, his office said in a tweeted statement. “Congressman Steube was involved in an accident on his property late this afternoon and has sustained several injuries,” the tweet said. “Please pray for the Congressman and his family.”
Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., sustained "several injuries" Wednesday after he was involved in an accident at his property, his office said. The severity of the injuries and how they occurred were not immediately clear. "Congressman Steube was involved in an accident on his property late this afternoon and has sustained several injuries," his office tweeted. NBC News has asked Steube's office for details. Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents the 16th District, tweeted that it was "horrible" to hear for Steube's accident and that he wished his fellow Republican a speedy recovery.
Representative Greg Steube, a Republican from Florida, listens during a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing in Washington, D.C., U.S., on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Rep. Greg Steube is "making progress" but remained hospitalized Thursday with "several serious injuries" he sustained after a 25-foot fall off a ladder at his Florida home, his office said. Steube's injuries "are still under assessment but not life threatening at this time," his office said. A third-term congressman from Florida's 17th Congressional District, Steube had recently been named to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. "Our family's prayers go out to Congressman Steube this morning," tweeted Joe Scarborough, a former Florida Republican congressman turned MSNBC morning host and frequent GOP critic.
A 14-year-old Southwest passenger was stranded in a Baltimore airport for 19 hours on Christmas Eve. Southwest staff left Penelope Meyer alone as they repeatedly rebooked her flight to Florida. Penelope Meyer, 14, had been flying from Long Island, New York, to Fort Myers, Florida, to spend Christmas with her dad, Greg. "Otherwise, she was going to be sleeping in an airport alone as a 14-year-old girl," Greg said. While Greg found the additional expenses of about $2,000 to be an inconvenience, he was more concerned that staff had left Penelope alone for so long.
Greg Smithies leads the biggest fund focused on the decarbonization of real estate. Smithies has worked on sustainability issues and with Elon Musk's The Boring Company. But Smithies is no stranger to investment-led decarbonization efforts, having tackled the problem for much of his career. "At the end of the day, software isn't going to solve the climate crisis," Smithies said. But above all, he's focused on the money and the potential savings that low-carbon technology can have on real estate.

2 Democrat, told CNN when asked if party leaders should stay out of the race. “I’m just not worried about folks who may not like this approach,” Sinema told CNN on Thursday. On Monday, he wouldn’t say if he believes Democratic leaders should try to knock her off in 2024. Like Sinema, party leaders are now watching Manchin closely as he weighs whether to run in 2024. “I worked very closely with Sen. Sinema – two years now to get stuff done,” Kelly said.
Sinema’s interests are no longer necessarily the Democrats’ best interests in the next Congress, and the 2024 Senate map became even more complicated for Democrats with Sinema’s decision. The Democrats who run against independent Sen. Angus King in Maine have not gained traction in recent elections. Having two people in the race who are going to caucus with the Democratic Party likely makes it more difficult for the Democrats to win. All that said, the Democrats already have a difficult map heading into 2024. With Sinema’s break from the Democratic party, the road is, if nothing else, curvier for Democrats.
"Grateful for the long-overdue release of Brittney Griner today from Russian custody. "Thank you to every single person that kept Brittney Griner’s name alive #WEAREBG," tweeted one of her Phoenix Mercury teammates, Brianna Turner. The Biden administration wasn't able to secure Whelan's release because the Russian government is treating his case differently than Griner's, Biden said. “While we celebrate Brittney’s release, Paul Whelan and his family continue to suffer needlessly,” Blinken said. There are few top executives who draw as much attention and speak as freely as Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan. "Inflation is eroding everything…and that $1.5 trillion will run out sometime mid-year next year," Dimon said. Never one to mince words, Dimon then blasted the cryptocurrency sector when asked what he thought of the FTX collapse. Meanwhile, days after the EU's $60 per barrel price cap kicked in, oil prices slumped to levels not seen since before the invasion of Ukraine. There's been much debate about how the measure will alter oil prices moving forward — but PIMCO commodities strategist Greg Sharenow said it's going to come down to three factors.
It will be months before we know the real impact of the EU price cap on Russian oil, PIMCO said. These include how many ships Russia can procure and how many loaders abide by the rules. A European Union ban on seaborne Russia oil imports came in alongside the price cap Monday. Meanwhile, tanker charter prices are sky-high for ships willing to transport Russian oil amid sweeping sanctions, and Middle East and Asian buyers are opportunistically snapping up aging oil tankers to ship Russian fuel. Sharenow said the third thing to watch for is when sanctions on refined Russian oil products like diesel begin in February.
The cold case against Christopher Dawson was reopened after the 2018 podcast put pressure on the police to revisit their investigation. A 2003 inquest had recommended charging Dawson with his wife Lynette's murder but prosecutors declined, citing a lack of evidence. "Our system of justice and our democracy is based upon the presumption of innocence," he told media on Friday. "We respect and thank Judge Harrison for his sentence, and hope Chris Dawson lives a long life in order to serve that sentence," he told media. Dawson, now 74, claimed his wife had left him - a defence that Harrison said was fanciful.
Some Twitter employees are working 80-hour weeks and sleeping at the office. Some older workers have fond memories of sleeping at work, but younger Americans aren't on board. Americans are divided on what to make of this, and a workplace-culture expert believes the schism reveals a generational divide. But younger workers are unlikely to buy in, said the best-selling author and workplace well-being expert Jennifer Moss. While older generations worked through the dot-com craze and the rise of Silicon Valley hustle culture, younger workers are changing attitudes around how far you need to go for your job.
The inflatable aeroshell looked to be in great condition after recovery, proving it can survive the rigors of atmospheric entry. The result: “a pretty resounding yes,” said Trudy Kortes, director of technology demonstrations at NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate. The mission aims to test the inflatable heat shield technology that could also land larger robotic missions on Venus or Saturn’s moon Titan or return hefty payloads to Earth. But an inflatable aeroshell could circumnavigate that dependency — and open up sending heavier missions to different planets. A double rainbow appeared across the sky over the LOFTID heat shield as it was transferred at port in Hawaii.
The proptech sector is battling two challenges at once: a slowing housing market and a tech bust. For almost a decade, a growing group of companies have thrived by introducing tech innovations to a stubbornly analog real-estate industry. "Now we're seeing something that feels like a confluence between the 2001 dot-com bust in the venture-capital world and the 2008 market crash in real estate. Shares of both Opendoor and Redfin, which once drew investor attention to the soaring proptech industry, are worth roughly one-tenth what where they were a year ago. The company hasn't laid off any of its 300-person staff — including a roughly 50-person tech team — and doesn't plan to, Matthews said.

I had no idea my horse training company would become such a great success. If we're having a photo shoot, the production has to be mindful that horses need to shift their balance, and walk and move. Horse training in Hollywood requires a strong love of horses, because it's not an instant cash-inOwning production horses is a big decision and responsibility.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermidATLANTA, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Americans on Monday were lining up yet again to buy Powerball tickets, dreaming of winning a $1.9 billion lottery jackpot that had jumped to a record high after repeated drawings failed to produce a winner. It remained down on Monday afternoon except for a home page listing Saturday's winning numbers and the new jackpot estimate. "Someone has to win," Spencer said after he shelled out cash for two $2 tickets at a Chevron station in east Atlanta. The previous record for a Powerball jackpot came in 2016, when three ticketholders from California, Florida and Tennessee shared a $1.586 billion top prize.
PHILADELPHIA/LATROBE, Pa., Nov 5 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden told voters in Pennsylvania that a Democratic loss in Tuesday's midterm elections would have "decades" of consequences, while Republican candidates for Congress predicted a sweeping victory. Still, opinion polls show a significant number of Republican voters accept the claim, as do many candidates for Congress, governor and state offices overseeing election administration. Speaking before Trump at a rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Representative Glenn Thompson told supporters that Republicans were headed for major gains on Tuesday.
