House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, facing growing pressure from the right flank of his conference, announced on Tuesday he is directing committee leaders to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, citing a “culture of corruption” around the chief executive.
“Today, I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said at a press conference.
But until now, the inquiry was not guaranteed, especially as it remained unclear whether vulnerable Republicans in swing districts that Biden won in the last election would vote to open the impeachment inquiry into the president.
But other Republicans have opposed launching an impeachment inquiry.
Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado has argued that the House lacks evidence connecting Biden to his son’s foreign business dealings.
