Open Society Foundations said Tuesday that it will spin off its support for Europe's Roma communities into a new foundation and pledged €100 million, around $107 million, for that work. The Roma Foundation for Europe, which will be independent of OSF, launches in January and will be based in Brussels, said the foundations. Under Alex Soros' leadership, the foundations announced in July that it would significantly retool its structure and layoff 40% of its staff globally. “We will also keep up — and dramatically increase — our efforts to secure equal treatment for Europe’s largest ethnic minority, the 12 million Roma (who mostly live in Eastern Europe),” Alex Soros wrote. OSF will not have representatives on the board of the Roma Foundation for Europe, said Jovanovic, adding that the decision to start the foundation was made last year, independently of the restructuring.

The documents were unearthed by the non-profit Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which counts billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations among its financial backers, and its research was shared with media including The Guardian and the Financial Times. It is also backed by the US State Department, the UK Foreign Office and the Ford Foundation. The Financial Times said people familiar with the structures had claimed “parallel sets of books and a Russian doll of companies and funds” at the investment firm were used to mask the trades. When Hindenburg published its report in late January, it pitched 88 questions to Adani that cast doubt on his conglomerate’s financial health. Prosecutors say Sam Bankman-Fried donated $100 million to politicians using FTX funds. Messages from Ryan Salame quoted in a court filing say SBF wanted "to weed out anti-crypto" politicians. Although prosecutors have put that number as high as $100 million because they say Bankman-Fried funneled millions more through FTX executives. Prosecutors' evidence includes messages from Ryan Salame, the former co-CEO of FTX's Bahamian affiliate company, who prosecutors say is "a co-conspirator in the defendant's illegal campaign finance scheme." Salame's message added it was likely Bankman-Fried would "route money through me to weed out that republican side," according to the filing.

CNN —Donald Trump’s already daunting legal predicament gets grimmer by the day as new details emerge of the depths to which he was prepared to stoop to reverse his defeat in the 2020 election. And as the former president’s legal team juggles court dates in different cities this week, their task in defending Trump is getting ever more complex. The stampede of developments around Trump’s cases is providing only a hint of the political and legal collision that is likely to unfold next year. But data from Trump’s account could potentially provide information about which phone – and potentially person – posted tweets to the account. Twitter data might also show any direct messages sent to or from Trump’s account.

It feels dangerous to write about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: In the lag time between when I put the finishing touches on this and when it becomes publicly available, I could be a conspiracy theory or two behind. He’s a crank who cranks out whoppers the way Taylor Swift disgorges perfect pop songs. Kennedy is where paranoia meets legacy admissions. It’s an exaggeration of inequities and injustices that really do exist, and it simplifies a maddeningly complex world. Ranting about George Soros or Anthony Fauci feels a whole lot better than raging at the vicissitudes of fate.

It echoes 1,000 years of antisemitic conspiracy theories that Jews are responsible for, yet somehow immune to, plagues and disease – beliefs that led to actual Jews being murdered by angry mobs. No, of course, we’re in Washington, DC, where politics dictates how antisemitism is, or isn’t, tolerated by those with something to gain from it. Really, it was only a matter of time before RFK Jr. stumbled into overt antisemitism. Without exaggeration, many of my Jewish friends have remarked that this mainstreaming of antisemitism reminds them of 1930s Germany. There is no equivalence between a strident anti-Israel remark and the resurrection of age-old antisemitic conspiracy theories.

For the second time this year, Democrats find themselves in a complicated position: torn between celebrating a long-sought indictment of Donald J. Trump and proceeding with caution. The party is in near-universal agreement that Mr. Trump should face federal charges for retaining classified documents and resisting investigators’ efforts to recover them. When Mr. Trump was indicted in March, Mr. Bennett questioned whether the offenses the former president had been accused of were worth the political risk of an indictment. This time, Mr. Bennett said, he has no doubts about the indictment’s necessity. Already, many leading Republicans have rallied around Mr. Trump; some have gone so far as to suggest outright war.

George Soros has handed the reins of his empire to his 37-year-old son, Alex, marking the end of an era on Wall Street. For decades, Soros’s moves were scrutinized, followed and sometimes even imagined by rival traders. Soros, who ran the Quantum Fund, one of the most successful hedge funds in history, traded stocks, bonds and currencies all over the world, becoming a pioneering ‘global macro’ investor. He built a fortune in the 1970 and 1980s making big bets that anticipated economic and political shifts.

After decades running one of the most prominent and politically active financial empires, George Soros is handing the reins of his $25 billion Open Society Foundations to his son Alex, the grant-making network confirmed on Monday. Alex Soros, the second-youngest of George’s five children, was elected the foundation’s chairman in December. He also serves as president of the Soros super PAC and is the only family member on the investment committee for Soros Fund Management, a private investment management firm.
