CNN —A nine-year-old motorcycle rider from Argentina has died after crashing during a practice session at the Interlagos Circuit in São Paulo, Brazil. Lorenzo Somaschini was participating in the first free practice session of the Jr Cup on Friday when he had a fall and was immediately treated by medics at the scene, race organizer SuperBike Brasil said in a statement. “The whole SuperBike Brasil team is saddened by the event and expresses its sincere condolences to all of Lorenzo’s family and friends,” said SuperBike Brasil. Somaschini, known as “Lolo,” rode under the number 99 as a tribute to his idol, Spain’s three-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo. “My heart breaks because also I was his idol and he wore my number,” Lorenzo wrote on Instagram Stories.

Warner-Judd was competing in the final of the women’s 10,000 meters in Rome when she had a seizure with about 600 meters left until the finish. “From getting the bus to the warm up track, I can’t explain it – something felt off,” Warner-Judd wrote in the post. “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months and has culminated in me being provisionally diagnosed with focal epilepsy,” she added. CNN —A doping case involving 23 Chinese swimmers took a diplomatic twist on Wednesday after US lawmakers called on the US Department of Justice and the International Olympic Committee to launch inquiries into the controversy. The Chinese swimmers tested positive for trimetazidine, a banned performance-enhancing substance, several months before the Tokyo Olympics – a tournament at which they were allowed to compete in, and went on to win medals at, according to a report from the New York Times released in coordination with German public broadcaster ARD. In a statement released Wednesday, the lawmakers called for an assessment as to whether the alleged doping was “state-sponsored,” adding that could warrant further diplomatic measures by the United States and the international community. CNN has reached out to the Department of Justice, the IOC and WADA for comment. Trimetazidine has the potential to boost endurance and has been banned by WADA since 2014.

CNN —British kayaker Bren Orton is missing after an accident on the Melezza River in Switzerland last week. The 29-year-old was kayaking with a group close to the Swiss-Italian border when he “became trapped in a recirculating feature and did not resurface,” Pyranha, the manufacturer of Orton’s kayaks, said in a statement. “Authorities and friends are tirelessly continuing their search efforts, and at this time, Bren is considered missing,” the statement added.
