This report is from this week's CNBC's "Inside India" newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Food prices, which rose an annual 8.7% in both April and May, account for nearly half of the overall consumer price basket. "Food prices are holding back any consideration of possible changes in the monetary policy stance," he added.

UBS predicts Card Factory will earn £65 million in the next financial year, with sales running up to about £535 million. The big storyEmerging markets have been on tenterhooks for the better part of this year as the Federal Reserve has been dangling the prospect of an interest rate cut. Historically, as U.S. interest rates fall, the allure of the mighty dollar fades to the benefit of other currencies. Indeed, unlike most developed economies, India's interest rate regime in 2024 isn't any different from that of 2018. There lies the disconnect between the economy, the stock market, and a single stock. Non-bank lender Akme Fintrade India and engineering firm DEE Development Engineers will debut on the stock market on Wednesday.

Gecko Capital's Maunakea Emerging Markets Debt Recovery Fund has delivered an impressive 74% return over the past year, and its fund manager is particularly bullish on two South American economies looking ahead. Maunakea's two largest positions are in Venezuela and Argentina, which Durand considers among "the most attractive and compelling" trades he has ever placed. Elections are expected to be held on 28 July which will be a key moment for investments in the country, according to the fund manager. However, the fund manager is optimistic that Argentina will reverse its economic woes. The next trade Durand said he is eyeing Bolivia, once a market darling that has recently experienced significant problems, for opportunities as its bonds start to trade at discounted levels.

"The stat that really blew my mind is that the forecast cash flow for Nvidia for 2026 is higher than Microsoft ," Yuri Khodjamirian, CIO at Tema ETFs, told CNBC's Squawk Box Europe, emphasizing the remarkable growth trajectory of Nvidia. This projection is driven by the surging demand for Nvidia's AI chips, as software companies increasingly rely on these powerful processors to fuel their artificial intelligence models. The spending by software giants such as Microsoft , Amazon and Google is propelling the share prices of Nvidia and other semiconductor companies to new heights. NVDA 1Y line Khodjamirian noted that Nvidia is "setting the pace" in the industry with annual product announcements that competitors struggle to match. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gestures, at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi, India, June 4, 2024. Adnan Abidi | ReutersThis report is from this week's CNBC's "Inside India" newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Far from rewarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party with a supermajority — as polls had predicted — Indians elected 240 BJP lawmakers to India's 543-seat Parliament, which falls short of a simple majority for Modi's party. However, as the largest party, the BJP will form a coalition government thanks to its alliance with smaller parties ahead of the elections. This "radical transformation" is expected to lead to a significantly more efficient economy and help India's currency, according to Sullivan.

Despite an interest rate cut expected this week, profits at a handful of major European banks will remain robust, according to Berenberg. The European Central Bank appears on course to cut interest rates this week, the first reduction since 2019, despite a higher-than-expected inflation print . However, European banks underperformed their global peers over the past decade as the European Central Bank kept interest rates below or near zero until 2022. The investment bank's analyst also pointed out that European banks are currently trading at a 20% discount to their long-run average valuation despite improvements in their balance sheets and returns. Caledonia Investments could see its stock price soar by more than 35% if restrictions on share buybacks are lifted, according to fund manager Brian McCormick. McCormick, who runs the Jupiter Global Value fund at Jupiter Asset Management, said Caledonia's share buybacks are limited due to restrictions in share ownership as set out in the U.K.'s Takeover Code. In addition, when the fund performs a share buyback while its stock trades below its NAV, it is buying its own assets at a 37% discount. Caledonia's buyback limits When a company buys back shares, those shares are canceled, which can increase the percentage ownership of remaining shareholders. Analysts also agree that Caledonia's limits on share buybacks right now are holding back the share price.
