AdvertisementThe rate of AI model improvement appears to be slowing, but some tech leaders say there is no wall. A fierce debate over whether improvements in AI models have hit their limit has taken hold in recent weeks, forcing several CEOs to respond. Others, including Marc Andreessen, say AI models aren't getting noticeably better and are all converging to perform at roughly similar levels. AdvertisementOne solution that companies are exploring is synthetic data, an artificial form of data generated by AI. Aymeric Zhuo, cofounder and CEO of AI startup Agemo, said that AI reasoning "has been an active area of research," particularly as "the industry faces a data wall."

CNN —A stowaway evaded multiple airport security checkpoints and flew aboard a Delta Airlines flight from New York to Paris Tuesday evening, authorities said – a shocking breach that raised serious alarm over airport security. Passengers weren’t alerted to the stowaway on Delta flight 264 from New York’s JFK International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport until the plane landed in Paris, said Rob Jackson, who was a passenger on the flight. “Apparently, she hid in a lavatory all the way at the rear of the aircraft when we departed JFK,” Jackson told CNN. She has a Russian passport and will soon be sent back to the United States, according to an airport official in Paris. “Nothing is of greater importance than matters of safety and security,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

That’s thanks to a new international airport, equipped with a 2,200-meter (7,217-foot) runway, opening in the capital of Nuuk. Before the new airport’s opening, traveling by air to Greenland meant flying into smaller cities such as Kangerlussuaq to the north or Narsarsuaq, further south. The new airport will serve as the base for Air Greenland, which will operate an Airbus A330neo plane on a route to Copenhagen, Denmark. Jens Lauridsen, chief executive of Greenland Airports, knows the opening of the new facility at Nuuk will have a big effect on tourism and the economy. On Tuesday, Trump’s transition team signed an agreement with the White House after months of postponing the traditional transition process – a delay that Biden officials warned could undermine an orderly transfer of power and pose national security risks. In a statement announcing the agreement, the Trump transition said it will use its own security and information systems, its own office spaces and maintain its own ethics plan. The transition team said its ethics plan will be posted online in compliance with federal law. Several of Trump’s picks have vast personal fortunes and deep ties to the private sector. Trump’s transition team has so far relied instead on internal vetting.

His first major global brouhaha since winning reelection posed the following questions that will help define the character of his second term. There’s no guarantee that Canada, Mexico and China will back down immediately. Trump’s trade war rhetoric is a reminder that in his worldview, the United States has few friends — only adversaries against whom it can choose to win or lose. The prime minister therefore has a huge incentive to avoid a trade war that could cause havoc in the Canadian economy. Initial reaction to Trump’s broadside against Canada and Mexico suggests that many observers see his outburst as a negotiating tactic.

But the Supreme Court’s upcoming and potentially explosive transgender care case is dividing conservatives, with many of those same groups backing Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and hormone treatments, which critics say injects the state into family medical decisions and overrides parental rights. Tennessee, and many conservatives who support the state’s position, argues parental rights aren’t a factor in the case. Conservative groups have lined up in federal courts to make nearly identical parental rights arguments in other cases. That separate lawsuit specifically asked whether the state law violates the “fundamental right of parents” to make decisions about the medical care of their children. In allowing the Tennessee ban to take effect last year, a divided 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals brushed aside the parental rights arguments.

The lawsuit said Shen Yun has made hundreds of millions of dollars by exploiting young dancers it recruits from abroad, forcing them to work grueling hours and scaring them into thinking they’d face harm if they quit. According to the website, Shen Yun, along with Fei Tian Academy of the Arts and Fei Tian College — which were also named as defendants — were founded by followers of the Falun Gong faith. After the first year, she was paid $500 a month until she “graduated” from Fei Tian College in 2019, when her salary was raised to $1,000 a month, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit said she contracted measles when she was 14 but was not permitted to see a doctor. Instead, the lawsuit said, she was told to meditate to feel better and was required to work while she recovered.

CNN —The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking an arrest warrant for Myanmar’s military leader for crimes committed against the persecuted Rohingya minority group. As a result of the violence, the ICC estimated that more than one million Rohingya were forcibly displaced from Myanmar — many fleeing to neighboring Bangladesh. Min Aung Hlaing is the leader of Myanmar’s powerful military, known as the Tatmadaw, which seized power in 2021. But even If the warrant is approved, the ICC could be limited in its jurisdiction as Myanmar is not among the 123 member states of the court. However, member countries could be obligated to transfer Min Aung Hlaing into ICC custody if he enters their territory after the warrant is issued.
