A local government in China faked signatures and fingerprints in nearly 2,000 traffic tickets last year. AdvertisementA local government in northern China was busted for faking signatures on nearly 2,000 traffic tickets, China's State Council, the country's cabinet, announced on January 19. In total, the bureau faked signatures and fingerprints on 1,964 of the 2,099 traffic tickets it issued last year, according to the State Council statement. China's State Council did not state the motivations behind She County's forgery. At United Airlines, for example, smarter software can offer rebooking options and issue food and lodging vouchers when a flight is canceled, rather than just rebooking a flight. United Airlines has suspended its flights indefinitely, said Josh Freed, a United spokesman. This year, travelers are expected to choose faraway places and board small ships, according to Virtuoso, the consortium of luxury travel agencies.

In the year ahead, the use of biometrics — an individual’s unique physical identifiers, such as fingerprints and faces — will be expanded at airports in the United States and abroad, a shift to enhance security, replace physical identification such as passports and driver’s licenses, and reduce the amount of time required by travelers to pass through airports. Biometric technology will be seen everywhere from bag drops at the check-in counters to domestic security screening. This program is currently available at 30 airports nationwide, including Salt Lake City International Airport and Denver International Airport; the T.S.A. said it will expand to more than 400 airports in the coming years. The pilot program is now available at five airports, including La Guardia Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.

CNN —It was supposed to be a routine court appearance this week for Nicholas Rossi, who is facing a rape charge in Utah. After he was arrested in 2021 in Scotland, Rossi described himself as an Irish orphan who had never visited the United States. He denied being a rape suspect and gave his name as "Arthur Knight Brown." In Scotland, Rossi often appeared in court via video, saying he was not well enough to attend in person. “He appears today as Arthur Knight but has previously been identified by medical professionals and civilians as Nicholas Rossi,” the prosecutor told the court.

Opinion: For the Houthis, war is a way of life

I think they’re probably ill-advised because I don’t think they’re going to do what they are intended to do. I don’t think they’ll deter the Houthis. This is such an unequal war because the whole character of war has changed. I don’t think it would make the slightest bit of difference whether the US designated them or not. I think they’re on the way to becoming Hezbollah.

The study relied on AI's discovery of similarities between different fingers belonging to the same person to argue that each fingerprint is, in fact, not totally unique. Some of the pairs came from two different fingers belonging to the same person, while other pairs were two different people's fingers. The AI system discovered that fingerprints from different fingers belonging to the same person were incredibly similar. Researchers honed in on the angles and curvatures at the center of the fingerprint to find these similarities, Guo told CNN. "I think this study is just the first domino in a huge sequence of these things," Guo told CNN.

Earlier prototypes of the Cybertruck appeared to have a door handle along the side of the car that would pop out similar to the Model S door handles. But Musk announced in 2021 that the vehicle wouldn't have door handles. Tesla owners have complained about the company's high-tech door handles in the past.

By Nate Raymond(Reuters) -A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday declared that Maryland's licensing requirements for people seeking to buy handguns were unconstitutional, citing a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision last year that expanded gun rights. "Maryland has not shown that this regime is consistent with our nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation," U.S. A gun rights group called Maryland Shall Issue sued in 2016 along with two individuals and a gun store, arguing that the restrictions violated the Second Amendment. Richardson on Tuesday said the Supreme Court in 2022 "effected a sea change in Second Amendment law" when it struck down New York state's limits on carrying concealed handguns outside the home. Maryland had said its law mirrored historical limitations on "dangerous" people owning firearms.

"Maryland has not shown that this regime is consistent with our nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation," U.S. Richardson called the Maryland law an "additional, preliminary step" that subjected law-abiding people to a 30-day waiting period before they could begin the usual process to acquire a firearm through a separate background check system. A spokesperson for Maryland Attorney General Andrew Brown, a Democrat who is defending the law in court, said his office was "weighing options for next steps in this case." BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down Maryland’s handgun licensing law, finding that its requirements, which include submitting fingerprints for a background check and taking a four-hour firearms safety course, are unconstitutionally restrictive. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond said they considered the case in light of a U.S. Supreme Court decision last year that “effected a sea change in Second Amendment law.”The underlying lawsuit was filed in 2016 as a challenge to a Maryland law requiring people to obtain a special license before purchasing a handgun. Even though Maryland’s law doesn’t prohibit people from “owning handguns at some time in the future, it still prohibits them from owning handguns now,” Richardson wrote. Pennack said the 2013 law made obtaining a handgun an overly expensive and arduous process. Before that law passed, he said, people had to complete a more limited training and pass a background check, among other requirements.

For months, Bettersten Wade called the police in Jackson, Miss., desperate for any update or sign that detectives were making progress in tracking down Dexter, her 37-year-old son who left their home one day in March and vanished. They never seemed any closer to finding him, she said. And yet, records show that investigators for the Jackson Police Department knew exactly where Dexter Wade was. An off-duty police officer driving an SUV had struck and killed him on the same day that his mother last saw him, according to officials and coroner’s records. A deputy coroner said he was identified by a bottle of prescription medication he was carrying and through fingerprints.
