Against this backdrop, Wolfe Research released a basket of stocks that might be impaired under a Trump presidency. These companies would be at risk either under a 10% universal duty or 60% China tariffs. Beauty and cosmetics manufacturer Estée Lauder , down about 40% this year, could also face repercussions under a Trump win. Analyst Angel Castillo's revised price target of $332, down from $349, is approximately 14% lower than where shares closed on Wednesday. Other than these stocks sensitive to tariffs, Wolfe Research also suggested a few other ways to play the election.

The U.S. presidential election is fast approaching, but it may not have as much an impact on markets as people may think, some investors say. History suggests the strong performance bodes well for a post-election pop into year's end. When Trump was elected in the 2016 presidential election, investors expected energy would perform well — but the subsequent two years proved unfavorable for the sector. During the 2000 election, volatility lasted for more than 30 days, through December. "We encourage investors to keep their long-term objectives in mind during periods of uncertainty and position for election related volatility," Guerra wrote.

But he acknowledged that timing is key because our portfolio discipline mandates that we consider lightening up our stock exposure in an overbought market. In fact, AMD was our worst-performing stock for the entire week, losing more than 7% following the prior week's 1.8% slide. Energy was the worst sector of the week for the market as oil prices sank. Odds of a "no landing" scenario for the economy are rising amid continued strong economic data. The "no landing" scenario entails a continued run of hot economic data and growth that boosts markets but also precludes a steep rate-cutting cycle from the Federal Reserve. According to Cox, that means that short-term interest rates will drop to around 3% in the no landing scenario, even if long-term rates remain elevated. AdvertisementAfter all, a no landing scenario is the best outcome for the economy, Cox said, and given hot growth, the situation effectively tosses recession fears out the window. This would be just the fourth time in US history that the Fed has cut interest rates without a downturn, he added.

Small-cap stocks are looking very good right now. Lower rates can boost smaller companies by allowing them to borrow money for cheaper and expand their businesses. Smaller companies are more vulnerable to economic cycles. Despite this recently strong performance, small caps are still lagging their large-cap counterparts for the year. To be sure, some on the Street are pointing to another driver for small caps: the potential of a Trump victory on Election Day.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday gave investors his stamp of approval to buy some shares of Nike , but he warned that such an investment is tricky. "You've got my blessing to put on a small position — only small — because if Nike really can turn itself around, the stock will take off long before the financials do," he said. "You need to get ahead of that, but it's a risky call, so I suggest building your position gradually over time." Nike is also somewhat hostage to the consumer environment in the U.S. and abroad Cramer said. And while he admitted he'd like more definitive proof of a Nike turnaround, Cramer noted that by the time that happens, it may be too late to get in to the stock.

We did hold onto our rate-sensitive names like Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley , which were among the best performers since the last Monthly Meeting. Morgan Stanley: 16.2% Following the Fed's decision, shares advanced as investors became more optimistic about a soft landing for the U.S. economy. Morgan Stanley benefits from lower rates — and, in turn, a better economy — because it can usher in more Wall Street dealmaking such as initial public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. That's because the Club has been debating exiting Morgan Stanley altogether for a potentially better investment banking rebound play like Goldman Sachs. Morgan Stanley reiterated its buy-equivalent rating on Oct. 10, arguing that Eaton has a positive setup into earnings season.

U.S. interest rate cuts are unlikely to move at an aggressive pace, say market watchers. The Fed kicked off its easing cycle with a jumbo 50 basis-point rate cut in September — but subsequent ones will be milder, they said. They highlighted the better-than-expected September jobs report, renewed worries around inflation, rising yields and an economy that's still relatively strong. How to position In that scenario — and with inflation expected to continue being sticky, it's important that investors still have exposure to commodities, said Landsberg. The creator and marketing company Triller is finally trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker ILLR. The company went public via a reverse merger with a Hong Kong-based company called AGBA. A reverse merger occurs when a private company goes public by acquiring a publicly listed company. That didn't come to fruition, and in December 2021, the company announced plans to complete a reverse merger with a company called Seachange International. Creators, brands, and consumers are the main cohorts that AGBA touts as central to Triller's business in its recent filings.

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller said on Wednesday that his decision to sell out of Nvidia this year was a "big mistake." Druckenmiller's comments do not reflect Nvidia's 10-for-1 stock split, which went into effect in June. "It tripled in a year, and I thought the valuation was rich," Druckenmiller told Bloomberg.
