Bottom lines are important, especially when billions are at stake, as well as the future of an entire industry. US physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer is often referred to as "the father of the atomic bomb." At once skittish and coy, self-effacing and self-aggrandizing, owlish and sexy, Murphy’s Oppenheimer is, at times, his own kind of super-powered being. A moviegoer unfamiliar with the particulars of the history here might be forgiven for wondering whether Murphy’s Oppenheimer is Obi-Wan Kenobi or Darth Vader. “Robert Oppenheimer can touch us still,” Kempton wrote, “because he was one of the few of those who have lived with the illusion of being history’s conqueror and the fact of being its victim.”I’m there for it.

Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" is about the Manhattan Project, and features an atomic bomb test. By using chemicals and layering clips while editing, they made a realistic atomic explosion. For Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster, which follows the development and aftermath of the atomic bomb by following its creator, Robert J. CNN —As Swifties and others rejoice at the release of Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” a reissue of the star’s third studio album from 2010, one previously unreleased track has some scratching their heads. “When Emma Falls in Love,” one of the “from the vault” songs in the album rerelease, is gaining traction online as being about Oscar-winning actor Emma Stone, a known friend of Swift’s from the time “Speak Now” was initially written, around 2008-2010. Stone notably has taken her mother Krista to various awards shows and public events, per Entertainment Weekly.

NEW YORK, June 13 (Reuters Breakingviews) - “Wheel of Fortune” is finally going to get a new host. The charade that unfolds nightly on traditional American television has similarities to Wall Street. And earlier this year Sajak’s daughter replaced White as the letter-turner for one game where White became a contestant. And while “Wheel of Fortune” fans and behind-the-scenes crew may feel as if the wheels won’t turn in quite the same way without their leading man around, it’s likely that Sajak – and his Wall Street counterparts – can step aside knowing the game will still go on. "Terra Nova," a time-traveling epic about what would happen to Earth if it becomes too populated, was canceled after just one season, leaving viewers to wonder what became of the citizens of Terra Nova. Essentially, the Earth will become overcrowded and almost inhospitable by the mid-22nd century, so technology was developed to help citizens travel back 85 million years to inhabit the untouched Earth in a settlement called Terra Nova. The series' sole season ended in 2011 with the main character, Jim, destroying the portal to the past and narrowly making it back to Terra Nova. What would that mean for the people of Terra Nova? Fans will never know since Fox canceled the show soon after, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Distinguished CompetitionMr. Lee and Marvel are irrevocably linked, but he was no stranger to working with superhero industry rivals DC Comics. From 2001 to 2002, DC released a “Just Imagine” series of stories written by Mr. Lee in which he reinterpreted Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and other heroes. A cartoon version of Mr. Lee also appeared in DC’s 2018 animated film “Teen Titans Go! In one story, Mr. Lee playfully admonishes the team for recent developments, including “Alcoholic Iron Men!” and the mohawk haircut for the X-Men’s Storm. But the original, unused photo was bolder: It was a nude picture of him with a strategically placed comic book.

There’s even a live-in housekeeper, a forbidding red-haired woman named Mrs. Brandt who lurks in corners, spouting cryptic things about Jed’s long-dead mother and the breeding habits of local mountain lions. In a genre that can be numbingly formulaic and indifferently composed, she remains a masterful builder of mood, her voluptuous prose heavy with sex and weather. But as Jacy dithers and stalls in the July heat, so does the story, even as it wends toward the feverish, improbable rush of its climax. Woman, beware; these are the signs you were looking for. Gene Seymour Jeremy Freeman/CNNBut history, as it often does, had other ideas for Belafonte, who died April 25 at 96, having lived a long, full life as both entertainer and activist. The times he lived in paved a smoother way for him than the one faced by his mentor and hero Paul Robeson. On the other hand, there was, relatively speaking, only so much Belafonte could do on the entertainment side. Here, as elsewhere in Belafonte’s life, the activism and the entertainment sides of his public life worked in tandem to buttress, offset and enhance the other. Join us on Twitter and FacebookAnd in a gratifying sense, the push-pull of history’s demands worked in Belafonte’s favor as a screen actor.
By now, we should be used to HBO’s series pulling the rug out from beneath our expectations. Still, as more than one pundit observed of Logan’s death, this one shocked more than merely surprised. Not me, though I do miss Brian Cox already because few actors anywhere are as adroit at playing dyspeptic sociopaths. It would be at the very least ironic if “Greg the Egg,” the minion’s minion, stumbled into power as if he tripped on a sidewalk. I’ll say no more on this except to suggest that you all try to remember who in the end won that “Game of Thrones.” It’s not inevitable.

The altered screenshot that circulated on Twitter (here) and Facebook (here) substitutes the headline: "Jennifer Aniston calls GenZ 'whiny little b*tches' and tells them to 'suck a fat one' responding to backlash over former series FRIENDS." The original post from EW’s Twitter account was headlined: "Jennifer Aniston is acknowledging that a new generation of viewers finds 'Friends' offensive, citing the changing comedy landscape" (here). A spokesperson for Entertainment Weekly told Reuters in an email: “We can with 100 percent certainty say this was never a tweet published by EW.”Aniston’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. ‘Babylon’: Gate of God, Tower of Hubris, City of Sin

Damien Chazelle’s ambitious new film “Babylon,” a tale of Hollywood’s debauched early years, has polarized critics and audiences alike with its raunchy, over-the-top imagery. The title of the movie embraces the depiction of Tinseltown as the height of excess going back to the silent era. As Mr. Chazelle told Entertainment Weekly, “Babylon” was a name given Hollywood in those days to denote “a sinful place, a city of decadence and depravity that was heading to ruin.” The new movie tips its hat to the underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger and his lurid, gossipy 1965 book “Hollywood Babylon.” “Hollywood, California became a synonym of Sin,” Mr. Anger wrote. “Professional do-gooders would brand Hollywood a New Babylon whose evil influence rivaled the legendary depravity of the old.”

REUTERS/Mario AnzuoniLOS ANGELES, Dec 13 (Reuters) - The long-awaited sequel to groundbreaking movie "Avatar" won praise on Tuesday from movie critics who said they were awed again by director James Cameron's visual artistry. The sequel offers more advanced 3D images, showcasing aquatic creatures on the lush moon of Pandora. "'Avatar: The Way of Water' is such a screen-popping visual feast it earns the 3-hour, 12-minute running time," said Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times. Studios split ticket sales with theaters, and Cameron told GQ magazine that "The Way of Water" will need to make $2 billion just to break even.
Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers about “The Walking Dead” series finale, “Rest in Peace,” which premiered November 20. CNN —Forgive AMC, at least a little bit, for almost drunkenly celebrating “The Walking Dead” in its heyday by feeding audiences as much content related to the zombie drama as they possibly could. In its early seasons, “The Walking Dead” excelled in part because of its unpredictability, as the montage of characters who had died reminded the audience. Those plans later morphed into a limited series, but the sense that “The Walking Dead” was no longer the priority in AMC’s “Dead” universe had been pretty well cemented. Television is always hungry for another hit, and at its height “The Walking Dead” was the TV equivalent of a supernova.

LONDON, Oct 20 (Reuters) - British actress Judi Dench has called on Netflix to add a disclaimer to royal drama "The Crown", joining a chorus of voices criticising the series' fictionalised storylines. Netflix says "The Crown", which follows the reign of late Queen Elizabeth over the decades, is "fictional dramatization", inspired by real events. Its fifth season, in which a new cast will portray the royal family in the 1990s, premieres on Nov. 9, two months after King Charles ascended the throne. Dench referenced the scene, calling it "both cruelly unjust to the individuals and damaging to the institution they represent". Some royal commentators have also voiced concern the impact the show could have at the start of Charles' reign.
