Voyager 1 is now using a radio transmitter it hasn’t relied on since 1981 to stay in contact with its team on Earth while engineers work to understand what went wrong. NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft is depicted in this artist's concept traveling through interstellar space, or the space between stars, which it entered in 2012. Voyager 1 has been using one of its two radio transmitters, called an X-band based on the frequency it utilizes, for decades. In the meantime, engineers sent a message to Voyager 1 on October 22 to check that the S-band transmitter was working and received confirmation on October 24. “The S-band signal is too weak to use long term,” Waggoner said.

OpenAI is reportedly teaming up with Broadcom and TSMC to build custom AI chips, per Reuters. OpenAI could have its custom chips by 2026 but is reportedly dropping plans to build its own fabs. AdvertisementBuilding custom AI chips has long been the preserve of a select few tech companies — but OpenAI might be about to join the party. AdvertisementOpenAI's move, which will also reportedly see it incorporate AMD chips into its supply mix, means it would reduce its dependency on Nvidia, the market leader for AI chips. While it's unclear how much OpenAI's reported chip-building push will cost, creating custom AI chips doesn't come cheap.

Flash floods are becoming more common and more intense due to global warming. The impact of flash flooding can be particularly severe because, often, there is very little warning. Why are there more flash floods? The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a US-based nonprofit, said flash flooding has intensified because of increased rainfall and heat waves. But they both hover around two possibilities, which aren't mutually exclusive:AdvertisementTheory 1: Twitter is showing users what users want to see. And it's entirely plausible that some left-leaning users have left the platform during Musk's ownership, in part because he reinstated accounts from right-leaning users, including Trump himself. With 24 races on the schedule and only a handful of days in between, forecasting track performance is critical to ensuring engineers are ready to make any necessary changes. While teams are allowed up to 60 operational staff at the track on race days, each is communicating with analysts back at headquarters. "Everyone there will be looking at their computer and providing feedback to the racetrack engineers with recommendations that can be actioned onto the race car." With the cost-cap limiting budgets to $135 million per year, automating repetitive tasks is crucial to ensuring teams are using their resources efficiently.

Investors should look beyond the so-called "Magnificent Seven" and identify "country winners" in tech outside the U.S., according to one hedge fund manager.
