A 15-year-old was charged Thursday with the murders of his parents and three siblings and in the attempted murder of another sibling who survived Monday’s attack at the family’s Washington state home. The 15-year-old was taken into custody on the day of the shooting and was being held in a detention facility for juveniles Thursday. One child in the home survived the attack and was hospitalized, the King County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this week. The 11-year-old told investigators the teen shot her and then left the room, and that she heard someone shouting, "stop" and "help," before she escaped, the detective wrote. Our thoughts are with his surviving family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

She says that sometimes using AI to complete an application isn't a big deal. Since joining Applied in 2018, I've reviewed thousands of applicants' skill-based test answers, and I've noticed multiple subtleties that indicate AI was used. Beyond that, using AI can also strip an application of personality and diminish an applicant's ability to set themself apart among potentially thousands of other applicants. They may not mind the use of AI, or they might discard an applicant entirely if there is even suspicion that AI was used. AI isn't going anywhere, so use it to your advantageI believe that AI will continue to be used in applications.

Remote work continues to be popular among workers. Nearly a quarter, 22% say remote work flexibility is the most important benefit, according to Monster's 2024 Work Watch Report. "A lot of remote jobs are tech jobs" for example, says John Mullinix, head of growth marketing at Ladders. But remote jobs can be found in a wide range of fields — including opportunities "that are upwards of $130,000," says Toni Frana, career expert at FlexJobs. Mullinix and Frana regularly scour their sites to see what employers are looking for and how much they'll pay.

“Army officials stated that these low mission capable rates, along with the smaller size of the watercraft fleet after divestment, hinder operational readiness and the ability to meet mission requirement,” the report said. After the temporary pier mission ended — the pier was only operational for roughly 20 days in total with a cost of $230 million — the military requested civilian contractor support in bringing the Army’s vessels back to the US. The US military said four of its vessels, supporting a temporary pier built to deliver aid to Gaza by sea, had run aground in heavy seas. The GAO report also said the Army is considering leasing civilian watercraft to bolster its existing fleet and moving all of its watercraft to the Pacific. Ultimately, the Army watercraft is “how the ground force, the Army, gets to war,” Butler said.

I'm a Gen X child from the San Francisco Bay Area. Since that first move, I've lived in Alabama, Virginia, and Texas and returned to the Bay Area. In 1924, historians and museum curators banded together to bury a time capsule inside the Liberty Memorial, to be opened in 100 years. In the 1920s, a group of prominent Kansas City residents formed the Liberty Memorial Association to construct a memorial dedicated to honor those who served in World War I. With the help of the Kansas City Police Department bomb and arson unit, the capsule was successfully opened with no explosions. The first of these artifacts was a tube of seeds representing the Kansas City agricultural community. The final object is a printing plate from the Kansas City Star dated to November 1, 1921.
