Signage atop the Adani Group headquarters in Ahmedabad, India, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023. Adani Group is staring at trouble on several fronts as investors and partners rethink ties with the Indian conglomerate in the wake of bribery and fraud accusations by U.S. authorities. Fitch Ratings has put several dollar bonds issued by Adani Group companies on its negative ratings watchlist, which means the bonds could potentially be downgraded. "Until such time when the accusations against the Adani group individuals and their consequences have been clarified, TotalEnergies will not make any new financial contribution as part of its investments in the Adani group of companies," the French company said. The U.S. International Development Finance Corp has also said it would review its prior agreements to lend $553 million to a Sri Lankan port development that's backed by the Adani Group.

London-based hedge fund Granular Capital has revealed a renewed interest Borr Drilling , saying the offshore drilling company's shares could increase by up to 300% or 400%. The hedge fund's thesis centers on Borr's fleet of 24 modern jack-up rigs – specialized vessels used to maintain oil and gas production in shallow waters. Additionally, about one-third of the global jack-up fleet is approaching or has exceeded retirement age, suggesting a likely decrease in available equipment going forward. Singapore, which previously constructed 50% of global jackup rigs, has largely converted its manufacturing capacity to other uses. This week, Seatrium signed an agreement with India's Cochin Shipyard to build jack-up rigs, potentially at a lower cost in the future.

Week 12 saw plenty of heavy favorites face underdogs, but it didn’t prove as simple as many thought. Barkley rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in the Eagles’ Week 1 victory over the Green Bay Packers. While that still might be the case, it’s not been smooth sailing for the Texans through 12 weeks of the season. He has struggled behind a porous offensive line and that affected the running game on Sunday with Mixon only having 22 yards on 14 carries. The Seahawks currently lead the division having gotten the favorable tiebreaker thanks to their Week 12 home victory over the Cardinals.

The latest tariff proposal from President-elect Donald Trump would likely put upward pressure on inflation in the United States, according to Goldman Sachs. The core PCE, which strips out food and energy prices, is the preferred inflation reading of the Federal Reserve. A tariff-linked increase in core PCE could scramble the calculations around Fed rate cuts. To be sure, it remains to be seen whether the tariffs will actually be implemented at the levels Trump proposed — or what exceptions might be made. Some of Trump's advisors and supporters have characterized the tariffs he proposed during the campaign as a bargaining position rather than a set policy.

When COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev stepped to the podium at the closing meeting of the Baku climate summit on Sunday morning, hoping to clinch a hard-fought agreement on global climate finance, he carried with him two speeches. Expectations for a deal were depressed by worries of a looming U.S. withdrawal from global climate cooperation, geopolitical turmoil, and a rise of isolationist politics that had shunted climate change off much of the world’s top priorities list. An activist holds a globe balloon during a protest at the COP29 United Nations climate change conference, in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Nov. 21. As investors position their portfolios for 2025, wealth managers are advocating for a diversified approach with selective bets on undervalued sectors. CNBC Pro spoke to Ollie Clark, deputy head of research at WH Ireland, and Mark Preskett, senior portfolio manager at Morningstar Wealth, about how investors with roughly $500,000 could look to allocate their portfolio. Clark expects the growth in artificial intelligence to lead to another year of bumper returns. Investors with portfolios already geared toward a traditional 60/40 stock-bond portfolio mix can expect some, if limited, relief in the future, according to Clark. The Morningstar Wealth portfolio manager said investors could gain exposure to such companies through the Franklin FTSE South Korea ETF .

London CNN —Thyssenkrupp Steel has announced plans to eliminate 11,000 jobs by the end of this decade — about 40% of its workforce — becoming the latest German industrial giant to opt for drastic action to prop up its fortunes. “Increasingly, (global) overcapacity and the resulting rise in cheap imports, particularly from Asia, are placing a considerable strain on competitiveness,” Thyssenkrupp Steel said in a statement. Thyssenkrupp, Germany’s largest steel producer, joins the country’s biggest manufacturer Volkswagen in setting out a major overhaul to cut costs and bolster competitiveness. The German automaker also plans to close at least three factories in its home country and lay off tens of thousands of staff. “Locational weaknesses” include high energy costs, onerous red tape, and outdated physical and digital infrastructure.

The Biden administration said on Monday that it would lend $6 billion to help Rivian build an electric car factory in Georgia, part of an effort to lock in Democratic climate policies before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office. Rivian, a relatively new company that makes only electric vehicles, plans to produce sport utility vehicles and hatchbacks at the factory, in Social Circle, Ga., near Atlanta. The loan agreement will be binding once the Department of Energy and Rivian sign a contract, which is expected to take place before Mr. Trump’s inauguration in January. to close the loan quickly,” the company said in a statement. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell speaks in the early hours at the conclusion of the UNFCCC COP29 Climate Conference on November 24, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ambitious climate action often requires ambitious financing — be it a clean energy transition project or helping developing countries mitigate the effects of natural disasters. Nearly 50,000 people from 200 countries — including, for the first time, the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan — were in Azerbaijan for this year's United Nations Climate Change Conference, with the goal of reaching a critical deal on climate finance. Some of the highest human costs will be paid by smaller nations that are disproportionately affected by climate change, including Pacific Island nations whose existence is threatened by rising seas. But with COP29 weighed down by geopolitics and domestic turmoil, some were reluctant to attend at all.

Bitcoin hit a new record high last week, with prices climbing above $99,000 for the first time. CNBC asked analysts for their take on why bitcoin has so far failed to breach the widely-watched $100,000 mark. "There's a ton of leverage in the system right now," Novogratz, a longtime crypto investor, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday. Novogratz added that he's advocating investors buy "straight bitcoin" rather than bitcoin-exposed plays, such as MicroStrategy which owns a huge, multi-billion-dollar pile of bitcoin in its corporate treasury reserves. Deutsche Bank's Laboure said she thinks the idea of a U.S. national bitcoin is still far off, practically speaking.

Jim Cramer warns of market 'excess' as stocks surge

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday described signs of "excess" he sees across market sectors, saying these widespread dramatic gains make him somewhat apprehensive, warning investors not to get too greedy. "If you had the good fortune to participate in some of these seemingly excessive moves, I think you should give thanks to your gains," he said. While it's normal for the averages to rise following election day's "Republican sweep" — as Wall Street expects deregulation and lower taxes — Cramer pointed out that many roaring stocks aren't well-known or members of the Magnificent Seven. He also looked at "Trump trades," or stocks that Wall Street has embraced as they anticipate what President-elect Donald Trump's term, like private prison operators and oil service companies. "So, take what's been given to you, give thanks for your gains, and make sure you're not letting wins turn into losses."

U.S. Treasury yields were lower on Monday as investors weighed President-elect Donald Trump's Treasury secretary pick and eyed a key inflation reading due later in the week. Trump's choice of hedge fund executive Scott Bessent as Treasury secretary has calmed investors' nerves about the future of the U.S. economy. Bessent, the founder of Key Square Group, is expected to back the incoming president's economic goals including gradual tariffs and pro-business policies. However, as an old Wall Street hand and a fiscal conservative, investors believe Bessent will prioritize stability in the U.S. economy and markets.
