When it comes to gender equality, the architectural profession is a laggard, to say the least. It wasn’t until the 21st century that the Pritzker Architecture Prize — the profession’s highest accolade — was first awarded to a woman: Zaha Hadid, who won it in 2004. Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, co-founders of the Dublin firm Grafton Architects, are among only five women who have collected the award since. In awarding them the 2020 prize, the Pritzker jury described Farrell and McNamara as “pioneers in a field that has traditionally been and still is a male-dominated profession,” and cited their consistent regard for “the people who would inhabit and use their buildings and spaces.”Community-oriented, sustainable architecture was one of the themes of the Art for Tomorrow conference, an annual event convened by the Democracy & Culture Foundation with panels moderated by New York Times journalists that was held in Venice last week. In a panel titled “Architecture for Good,” Manuela Lucá-Dazio, executive director of the Pritzker Prize, said that while the Pritzker’s mission had remained the same since it was established in 1979, “our world has deeply changed in the past 45 years.”

Delta Air Lines said Monday that it will bring its premium economy service to transcontinental flights in September, its latest attempt to boost sales of higher-priced tickets to customers willing to splurge for more space and perks. Premium economy is a relatively new class of service that major airlines offer on longer, mostly international flights. Delta customers who purchase standard economy tickets will be able to pay for upgrades to premium economy on the transcontinental flights. The seats were sold as extra legroom tickets, which are a rung below premium economy. Some American Airlines ' shorter domestic flights operate a similar model, featuring lie-flat seats but not the Flagship service offered on international flights.

A lack of diversity in the sport in England is also reflected in the demographics of rugby audiences. Kabeya is particularly passionate about the topic of Black rugby players’ hair. The Irish culture and people are unmatchedThe drinking culture in Ireland can be enjoyable. But, part of what makes the drinking and eating culture so vibrant in Ireland is the quality of the food and drink here. Plus, it's cheaper for me to shop for fresh produce in Ireland than it ever was in the US. At University College Dublin (UCD), I paid about €72,000, or about $78,000, for all four years of school and received a bachelor's degree in English. This month’s thrillers are full of women grappling with misdeeds — in some cases their own, but mostly those of men. We start in Dublin, where Lou Manson, a college professor, is trying as hard as she can to forget the awful thing that happened more than 30 years ago. But when a figure from the past suddenly emerges, it all comes flooding back. “It only takes a second for the terror and guilt to find me,” she says. It’s also about how hard it can be for victims to find peace.

Its peak $100 billion valuation once made it the world's third largest privately-held company, behind TikTok owner Bytedance and Elon Musk's SpaceX. Estimates have pegged Shein's IPO valuation at around $90 billion, Bloomberg reported last year. AdvertisementTo gauge what happens to some Shein items once they're returned, BI reporters in the UK put two AirTag trackers on Shein garments and sent them back. Shein is more directly involved in production and focuses on clothes, but Temu's popularity "could affect the valuation," Swartz said. In a November statement following the news of Shein's IPO, chairman Mike Gallagher urged investors and banks underwriting the move to "carefully examine Shein's regulatory and compliance programs."

AdvertisementAmong my kids' classmates and friends, I can't name a single child born in recent years whose name falls into this category. Related storiesOne of my kids technically has a gender-neutral name, but admittedly, it wasn't an issue when we named him in Germany. Another interesting fact is that common German last names, like Schroeder or Fischer, can't be given as first names in Germany. The reason for these names being rejected is due to child protection grounds, as they are seen by German law as acts of child cruelty. Fortunately, this particular law was never an issue for us — we certainly never intended to give our children names like Stalin or Captain Marvel.

All being well, Bayer Leverkusen will end this season with one record, two trophies and just three haunting, existential questions. Could Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, have steered his team to an unbeaten treble? Leverkusen has, after all, illuminated the European season like no other team. It has overtaken Benfica as the owner of the longest unbeaten run in European soccer since World War I. And it has done it all, in case nobody has mentioned it, in Alonso’s first full season in management.

Read previewIn the 1970s, the lawyer Roy Cohn taught Donald Trump a simple playbook for political fights: attack, counterattack, and never apologize. Trump is employing that strategy on "The Apprentice," an independently produced biopic about him that premiered this week at the Cannes Film Festival. In a cease-and-desist letter, one of Trump's attorneys threatened to sue over the movie's release, calling it "direct foreign interference in America's elections." The letter warns that the movie's release in the United States would amount to "foreign interference in our elections." "The Movie, released six months before the November 2024 election, is directed at influencing the 2024 election by falsely defaming President Trump," he wrote.

On a round video screen, encased in a porthole-like structure behind a railing, they could see a livestream of onlookers across the Atlantic, in the center of Dublin. “They can see you just like you see them!” a staff member minding the exhibit told the crowd. The first thing to know about The Portal is that you will feel a strange, overwhelming urge to take out your phone and gaze at it through your phone's screen. Isn't it more interesting to try to interact with those people instead of staring at them through your phone? It feels almost protective — like The Portal is a light so bright you have to view it only through a phone screen, like looking at a solar eclipse through a hole in a cereal box. JetBlue Airways said Wednesday that it is seeking U.S. Department of Transportation approval to pair up with British Airways so the airlines could each expand their networks. The code-sharing agreement includes 75 destinations in the United States — 39 from New York and 36 from Boston — and 17 cities in Europe. Airlines frequently turn to code-sharing agreements, which allow carries to sell seats on airline partner's flights, to grow in regions outside their network. American Airlines also has a more than decade-old joint venture with British Airways across the Atlantic that is more involved than a code-sharing agreement. JetBlue's request for an agreement with British Airways comes a year after a federal judge struck down JetBlue's partnership with American in the U.S Northeast, which sought to allow the carriers to coordinate schedules and routes.
