Headline price rises in the euro area cooled to 1.8% in September, below the central bank's 2% target. Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau last week described an October rate cut as "very likely" and said such a step "won't be the last." This led him to forecast ECB rate cuts will take place both this week and at each of the central bank's forthcoming meetings, until the deposit rate hits 2.5%.

In his opening remarks on Saturday, Minister of Finance Lan Fo'an laid out four measures, starting with increasing support for local governments in resolving debt risks. China's real estate market slump has cut into a significant source of revenue for local governments, many of which struggled financially even before needing to spend on Covid-19 measures. He added that a large plan to address local governments' hidden debt would be announced in the near future, without specifying when. Historically, local governments were responsible for more than 85% of expenditure but only received about 60% of tax revenue, Rhodium Group said in 2021.

Polling has consistently found that Biden is a drag on Harris' candidacy and that voters are eager for a new direction. But Harris has been reluctant to be critical of Biden by outright critiquing his presidency. Harris would seek to distance herself from Biden somewhat delicately, likely giving the White House a heads up before doing so, three of the people familiar with the discussions said. Just hours after her interview on “The View,” Harris faced the same type of question by Stephen Colbert, who asked what major changes would be clear in a potential Harris administration and what might stay the same. Harris delivered a similar answer during her debate with Trump last month, which Biden took particular note of, NBC News has reported.

For the first time, the Democratic National Committee will invest in an advertising campaign dedicated entirely to LGBTQ publications in large metropolitan areas and several key battleground states.
