July 15 (Reuters) - A fire broke out at Dow's (DOW.N) Plaquemine chemical facility in Louisiana, the U.S. chemical maker said in a statement late on Friday. Everyone at the facility was accounted for and the fire was being managed by the company's Emergency Operations Center, Dow Louisiana said in a statement posted on Facebook, adding that they were in contact with officials. Explosions at the facility in Iberville Parish shook homes in the nearby state capital, Baton Rouge, WAFB TV reported. Dow did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The company now expects revenue for the quarter ending June 30 to be between $11 billion and $11.5 billion, compared with analysts' average expectations of $12.12 billion, according Refinitiv data. Dow had previously projected revenue for the ongoing quarter in the range of $11.75 billion to $12.25 billion. At a Bernstein conference, Dow flagged that demand in China continues to be "uneven", and said it witnessed lower-than-expected demand for home appliances and building materials in April. Weaker demand in other sectors affect Dow, which sells its products such as coatings and adhesives to industries ranging from automobiles and food packaging to electronics.

A prominent Russian senator with close ties to Putin is increasingly criticizing the war in Ukraine. Sen. Lyudmila Narusova, whose late husband was a mentor to Putin, has been a skeptic of the war since the start. "Nobody has explained how victory is supposed to look," Narusova told an interviewer with Forbes Russia in an April video, according to a translation in The Washington Post. "I think they themselves do not know what they are doing," Narusova told the independent Dozhd channel in February 2022, per The Times. His widow's public defiance is a sign of the worry growing among top Russian officials ahead of Ukraine's much-anticipated counteroffensive.

While the Dow Jones Industrial Average 's year-to-date move into the red on Thursday may signal more choppy, range-bound trading ahead, technical analysts say they don't think it's an omen for new multi-year lows. Chart experts say the closely followed blue-chip Dow Jones average could test long-term moving averages. .DJI YTD mountain The Dow Failing to hold above its 200-day moving average of 32,707 could mean more downside ahead for the 30-stock average, said JC O'Hara, chief technical strategist at Roth MKM. Now, the Dow is the only one of the three in the red on the year as investors favor growth stocks over value.

But the benchmark S&P 500 (.SPX) advanced for the week as well as the day and registered a second consecutive monthly gain. For the month the S&P rose 1.5% while the Dow added 2.5% and the Nasdaq was barely higher. For the week the S&P rose 0.9% in line with the Dow's weekly gain and the Nasdaq rose 1.3%. While the S&P 500 bank index closed up 1.1%, shares in First Republic tumbled in the regular session and after the close. The S&P 500 posted 25 new 52-week highs and 2 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 66 new highs and 136 new lows.

UnitedHealth has by far the biggest weighting in the Dow Jones Industrial Average . The 126-year-old blue-chip benchmark is price-weighted, meaning stocks with higher share prices are given the most weight. The health-care stock closed Wednesday at $520.97, while the stock with the second-highest impact on the 30-stock Dow, Goldman Sachs , stood at $327.37, nearly $200 less than UnitedHealth. While almost all other equity indexes are weighted by market capitalization, including the S & P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite , that doesn't mean UnitedHealth's power is diminished. The insurer is so large, with a $486 billion market cap, it ranks as the ninth-biggest company in the S & P 500.
