Now that I have a family, travel insurance is important — but I'm getting it through my credit card. According to SquareMouth travel insurance, the average cost of travel insurance is around 5% to 10% of your total trip price. In an effort to save that cash while still getting the protection we need, I decided to open a travel rewards credit card with travel insurance benefits. I picked a credit card with low fees and substantial travel benefitsSince this trip to Greece will cost a few thousand dollars, I decided to open a credit card with travel insurance to take advantage of travel rewards and travel insurance benefits that are offered. I decided to go with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card credit card since it had the most robust travel insurance benefits.

Read previewAs Amazon's Prime Day approaches, one delivery driver in Texas has a strategy for handling the coming avalanche of packages. Flex workers, meanwhile, are independent contractors who are paid per shift (or "block," as the workers call them) and use their own cars to work. Some Amazon delivery workers said they peed in bottles as they faced pressure to complete their routes, BI reported in 2018. "Amazon Flex delivery partners have the freedom to take breaks and run errands during their delivery window specified in-app," Branden Baribeau, an Amazon spokesperson, told BI. Unlike employees, contractor delivery workers have to cover many of their own costs. "No one wins under this law, including delivery workers," the spokesperson said. Gig workers have had to get choosier about jobsThe dilemma isn't unique to the food delivery world. Timothy Turer, who has worked in rideshare and gig delivery in Florida since 2016, remembers the dirt-cheap fares that Uber and Lyft offered riders early on. But with many telling BI that the job has gotten less profitable for them lately, or setting up their own delivery services, or even begging food delivery customers for better tips, it's clear cracks are starting to show in the well-polished delivery system.

Usually, after a financial crisis, people spend less money and fewer new businesses launch. Welcome to the age of the side hustle, where Americans are increasingly devoted to finding extra money to spend. Here's why so many people have side hustles right now, and why economists say they're probably here to stay. For roughly half of Americans with side hustles, the extra money isn't for fun: It's a necessity, driven by financial uncertainty. $250 per month is "by no means enough to live on, [but] it's a nice amount of money," Rossman says.

New York CNN —Starbucks is hoping to attract customers with a little gift: a free reusable straw. The giveaway is part of Starbucks’ broader efforts to become more sustainable and hopefully generate sales. Starbucks said that the reusable straws are “compatible with the Starbucks cold cup lid and most reusable Starbucks cold cups.” Its locations phased out plastic, disposable straws in 2020 and offer biodegradable straws with “sippy cup” lids in their place. Starbucks doesn’t often offer giveaways, other than its yearly handout of free plastic red cups during the holiday season. The chain also is rolling out new cold cups that use up to 20% less plastic compared to the current version.

A "good" price for something today may have seemed outlandish five years ago. A "good" price for something today may have seemed outlandish five years ago, and it's understandable to wonder whether today's price is just as fleeting. The whole idea of what's a good price for a 12-pack of carbonated soft drinks has changed dramatically over the past few years." Plenty of companies can move their prices, whether by using dynamic prices or downright raising prices, because they're the only game in town. The answer to getting accustomed to high prices is basically to forget what those numbers were in 2019.

Shares of Dutch food delivery marketplace Just Eat Takeaway.com could more than double over the next 12 months, according to Jefferies analysts. Jefferies remains bullish on Just Eat, even as the company's U.S. business Grubhub has faced the pressures of government price controls imposed on restaurants since the Covid-19 pandemic. Just Eat expects a $100 million EBITDA impact from the amending of the fee caps, the Jefferies note reported. Shares of the delivery firm have also moved away from their high during the Covid pandemic, and are now down 18.1% year-to-date and 22.5% in the last 12 months. It also trades as an American Depository Receipt in the U.S. — CNBC's Michael Bloom contributed to this report.

The agreement requires Uber to pay $148 million and Lyft to pay $27 million to the state. Campbell had been asking a judge to conclude that the state’s 55,000 Uber drivers and 35,000 Lyft drivers are employees under state law and therefore entitled to benefits such as a minimum wage, overtime and earned sick time. “Today’s agreement holds Uber and Lyft accountable.”The settlement provides for greater benefits and pay for Uber and Lyft drivers than provided under a similar settlement in November with New York state and under legislation signed into law in May in Minnesota. They along with DoorDash and Instacart had financially supported Flexibility and Benefits for Massachusetts Drivers, the ballot measure committee behind the proposal to ask voters to deem app-based drivers as contractors. The proposal had also called for providing drivers benefits similar to those in the settlement.
