Whatever news gods decided that the cable television stars Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon should be fired the same week that President Biden was scheduled to give a funny speech ribbing the news media certainly were generous in providing fresh material. And Mr. Biden took advantage on Saturday night as he gleefully mocked some of his favorite foils. “Last year, your favorite Fox News reporters were able to attend” the dinner “because they were fully vaccinated and boosted,” Mr. Biden said, in a nod to his coronavirus response strategy. “This year, with that $787 million settlement, they’re here because they couldn’t say no to a free meal.”“And hell, I’d call Fox honest, fair and truthful,” he told the crowd gathered in a cavernous ballroom in Washington as well as a national television audience watching at home. “But then I could be sued for defamation.” When some groaned, he quipped, “It ain’t nothing compared to what they do to me.”
But undoubtedly, a White House official told CNN, his speech will address the issue of wrongfully detained Americans abroad. US President George W. It was started two years earlier by the White House Correspondents' Association, the organization of journalists who cover the president. Roosevelt was congratulating Brandt for winning the first Raymond Clapper Memorial Award, which was given by the White House Correspondents' Association for distinguished reporting.
CNN —John King will take on a new role at CNN and step down as the anchor of “Inside Politics,” handing the torch to Dana Bash, who will take over as anchor of the esteemed program later this year, the news network announced Thursday. Dana Bash will take over "Inside Politics." CNNBash said that she is “thrilled” to be taking over as the anchor of “Inside Politics,” which airs daily at 12 p.m. Lemon, who was a staple in the network’s prime time lineup, most recently co-hosted “CNN This Morning” alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. CNN also this month launched “CNN News Central,” two three-hour shows that comprise the majority of the network’s dayside lineup.
That’s why I dismiss predictions — fashionable, even at some of these networks — that cable news is doomed to irrelevancy. Mr. Carlson’s reach made him an unelected leader of the Republican Party, someone the House majority leader, Kevin McCarthy, had to propitiate. An entire ecosystem of far-right sites and social networks eagerly waited to promote Mr. Carlson’s episodes each night. Bush, has called Mr. Murdoch’s machine the “Fox brainwashing operation” rather than Fox News. Lemon called it the “Fox propaganda network” because he didn’t think it was accurate to call it news anymore.
Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon have hired the same lawyer after leaving their respective networks. He's worked for former TV hosts at ABC, NBC, and CNN, and for a long list of celebrities. But the litigator they've retained, Bryan Freedman, has a record of helping TV hosts secure millions from their old networks. Chris Cuomo, fired by CNN in December 2021, also hired Freedman in his ongoing $125 million wrongful-termination suit against the network. Freedman did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment for Carlson and Lemon, sent outside regular business hours.
Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon, freshly ousted from their perches at top cable networks, have hired the same powerhouse lawyer to navigate their exits. The prominent Hollywood lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has a track record of getting multimillion-dollar settlements for TV stars and other celebrities. The news that both Mr. Carlson, until recently Fox’s top-rated prime time star, and Mr. Lemon, until recently one of CNN’s morning hosts, had retained Mr. Freedman portended possible fights ahead. Mr. Freedman, who is based in Los Angeles, founded the law firm Freedman and Taitelman with Michael Taitelman in 1997.
Tucker Carlson was hardly mentioned by his former fellow Fox News hosts after he was fired Monday. Sean Hannity only mentioned Carlson to say "We're not talking about him" and that he had no details. NEW YORK (AP) — The day he was fired, Tucker Carlson was nearly invisible on the Fox News prime-time lineup that he used to dominate. "We're not talking about Tucker," Hannity said, unprompted. Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham appeared close in November 2020.
You can scroll a bit further down for the market's reaction to the stunning Tucker Carlson announcement, but for today, we're turning our attention to crypto. If you ask Chamath Palihapitiya, that's because crypto crossed the wrong people and now it's dead, at least in the US. While crypto may be "dead in America," bitcoin is still going to $100,000. The housing market is close to bottoming and that could stave off a bad recession. That's according to Morgan Stanley, which wrote in a research note that housing is linked to broader business cycles.

Fox News announced it fired host Tucker Carlson on Monday. His show brought more than 3 million viewers each night. CNN fired Don Lemon on the same day.
They were on very different networks and did very different things to draw very different ratings. Mr. Carlson often led in the ratings by running wild at Fox News with white nationalist and false conspiracy stories that put him in a class by himself. But in their most recent incarnations, Mr. Carlson and Mr. Lemon were both products of the Trump years — set-top-box combatants who often made headlines themselves by giving their audiences generous helpings of indignation and outrage. Now, in different ways, their ousters represent at least a temporary pulling back from the excesses of the media coverage that the Trump election, presidency and post-presidency spawned.

Rupert Murdoch’s Fox (FOXA.O) announced the abrupt departure of star host Tucker Carlson, while Don Lemon, an anchor at rival CNN, said he had been fired. After the easy news cycle served up by former President Donald Trump’s administration, the networks are going through an identity crisis. Network chief Chris Licht is trying to reposition the organization toward straight-down-the-middle journalism, but is struggling to get the lineup to click. Even MSNBC is trying to recapture the magic after leading host Rachel Maddow left her five-day-a-week spot last year. They do not reflect the views of Reuters News, which, under the Trust Principles, is committed to integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.
Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon have both hired heavyweight lawyer Bryan Freedman. Fox News host Carlson and CNN anchor Lemon left their networks on Monday. Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon have hired high-powered Hollywood attorney, Bryan Freedman, after leaving their networks Fox News and CNN Monday. Freedman is known for aggressively pursuing lawsuits on behalf of clients fired by TV networks — and securing multi-million dollar payouts. His hiring is a sign that Carlson and Lemon could be gearing up to sue their former employers over their dismissals.
Don Lemon is out at CNN. Lemon said left him “stunned,” CNN on Monday declared an end to its longtime relationship with Mr. “CNN and Don have parted ways,” Chris Licht, CNN’s chairman, said in a statement. We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”That benign language contrasted sharply with Mr. Lemon’s interpretation of the day’s events. In a scathing message on Twitter, he told viewers that his talent agent had abruptly informed him “that I have been terminated by CNN.”“I am stunned,” Mr.
Right-wing prime-time host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox News immediately, the cable network announced Monday. "FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in a statement Monday. Carlson's program, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," has long been one of Fox's top rated programs. Carlson, 53, was among the Fox hosts and executives who were questioned as part of the Dominion lawsuit. While the Dominion lawsuit was unlikely to affect Fox's business, it was unclear the toll it would take on its programming and hosts.
Don Lemon announced he'd been fired by CNN on Monday and said he found out from his agent. CNN later said he'd been offered the chance to speak to management "but instead released a statement on Twitter." Forty-five minutes later, CNN tweeted a statement of its own that called Lemon's inaccurate. In its initial statement, CNN said Lemon "will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years." Lemon later apologized for the remarks.
CNN on Monday fired anchor Don Lemon in the wake of sexist on-air comments and reports that he mistreated female coworkers during his 17 years at the network. Lemon, who had hosted "CNN This Morning" as scheduled, said his agent informed him about his termination Monday morning. Shortly after Lemon first tweeted that he was fired, the network's CEO, Chris Licht, said the anchor and CNN "parted ways." The report was based on more than a dozen former and current colleagues of Lemon, Variety said. He has served as the prime-time anchor of CNN's "Don Lemon Tonight" for more than eight years, the network's website says.
CNN —National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby defended the United States’ decision not to evacuate US citizens from Sudan after US forces conducted a military operation extracting government personnel from its embassy in Khartoum Saturday. Internet connectivity has also been unreliable, leaving family members and friends outside of Sudan to worry if their loved ones are safe. Kirby said Monday that the violence in Sudan “is increasing,” and urged Americans remaining in the country to shelter in place. Officials told congressional staffers last week that there could be an estimated 16,000 American citizens in Sudan, most of whom are dual nationals. Kirby echoed this on Monday and suggested that many of those dual nationals “don’t want to leave” the country.

NBCU CEO Jeff Shell, Fox News' Tucker Carlson, and CNN's Don Lemon are all out. Shell's bombshell exit took many insiders by surprise, Insider's Claire Atkinson reported on Sunday. Fox News declined to comment beyond its press release saying it had agreed to "part ways" with Carlson. Media watchers had been primed for a Lemon exit for weeks. With all the news of the past 24 hours, media insiders have barely even gotten a chance to drill down into the second wave of layoffs at Disney, which will number in the thousands.
New York CNN —CNN has parted ways with longtime host Don Lemon. “Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” said CNN CEO Chris Licht in a memo to staff. In a statement of his own, Lemon said his agent told him Monday morning that CNN had terminated him. CNN is still shifting its late night lineup, and Laura Coates will no longer anchor solo at 11 p.m.Coates is said to be "stunned" and "disappointed" by losing the opportunity. On paper, Coates would seem like the ideal figure to fill the network's 11 p.m. slot, particularly as CNN already shared a press release about her appointment to the role in January. CNN and news industry insiders who commented for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak to the press. "They pulled her off to save money," said one person familiar with internal conversations at CNN. The network's only Black solo anchors now are Abby Phillip, who helms the high-profile "Inside Politics Sunday," and Fredricka Whitfield, who also hosts a weekend show.

Don Lemon reportedly sent anonymous, threatening text messages to a co-anchor in 2008. The messages warned the co-anchor was "going to pay for it," anonymous sources told Variety. The sources told Variety that Lemon's "provocative" behavior drove up "tensions" between the two. She got the first of the texts while out to dinner with colleagues, Variety reported. After escalating the issue to CNN higher-ups, the texts were traced to Lemon, the two sources who worked at CNN at the time told Variety.
