669 of the 1,089 approved US H-1B hires for TikTok and ByteDance in that fiscal year were from China. The hiring occurred as US officials raised concerns about TikTok's ties to China. Only 12% of all approved fiscal year 2023 H-1B applications were for Chinese nationals, compared to 61% of TikTok and ByteDance's approved applications.
