Federal prosecutors in New York charged the Indian mogul Gautam Adani, one of the world’s richest people, with multiple counts of fraud, accusing him and associates of bribing Indian officials and later lying to investors about the scheme. The charges stem from accusations that the defendants paid more than $250 million in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain lucrative solar energy contracts with the government for a business called Adani Green Energy. Mr. Adani personally met with officials to discuss the scheme in person, prosecutors said. Adani Green Energy then tried to raise money from U.S. and international investors on the basis of false and misleading statements, the U.S. attorney’s office said. CNN —Two Georgia election workers who won a massive verdict against Rudy Giuliani because he defamed them after the 2020 election are asking a federal judge to hold him in contempt of court. The pair, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, say Trump continues to repeat harmful lies about them on his nightly broadcast, in defiance of court orders. Accordingly, the Court should hold him in contempt and enter civil contempt sanctions,” Freeman and Moss’ lawyers wrote to Judge Beryl Howell in the DC District Court. Howell presided over the trial where a jury found Giuliani defamed Freeman and Moss so severely that he should pay them $150 million. New York prosecutors told the judge who presided over Donald Trump's hush money trial on Tuesday that his sentencing should be postponed while the president-elect's lawyers file further legal arguments asking the case be dismissed. A Wyoming judge ruled Monday that two laws restricting and banning abortion in the state violate its constitution, making the procedure legal up until fetal viability for the time being. Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens imposed an injunction on the pair of state laws in a ruling that said they ran afoul of the state constitution, which says every person has a right to personal autonomy in making medical decisions. Los Angeles CNN —Los Angeles officials on Tuesday moved to cement the city and its schools as sanctuaries for immigrants and LGBTQ youth as the city positions itself to push back strongly against President-elect Donald Trump’s platforms on immigration and gender. The Los Angeles City Council, which represents the second-largest US city, unanimously voted to adopt a “sanctuary city” ordinance that prohibits city resources from being used in immigration enforcement or to cooperate with federal immigration agents, unless required by state law. LGBTQ advocates also fear his presidency will result in wider restrictions on transgender people and rollbacks of protections for other LGBTQ groups. New York CNN —Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has sued a court-appointed bankruptcy trustee and the families of some of the Sandy Hook victims in an attempt to stop the sale of his media empire Infowars to the satirical news outlet The Onion. The one other competing bid, at $3.5 million, came from First United American Companies, which is affiliated with Jones and operates his lucrative online nutritional supplements store. Jones’ lawsuit comes after First United American Companies also filed an emergency motion to stop the sale. First United American Companies said that it was not made aware of the winning bid amount and did not have the opportunity to increase its offer. Federal bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez, who is overseeing the case, harshly questioned an attorney for the trustee about the auction rules.

CVS Health , UnitedHealth Group and Cigna sued the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday, claiming that the agency's case against drug supply chain middlemen over high insulin prices in the U.S. is unconstitutional. The FTC's in-house administrative process initiates a proceeding before an administrative judge who would hear the case. FTC commissioners then vote on that opinion. The Tuesday complaint argues that the FTC's process violates the companies' due process rights under the Fifth Amendment. The complaint comes a month after CVS, UnitedHealth Group and Cigna demanded FTC Chair Lina Khan and two other commissioners recuse themselves from the agency's in-house suit.

“The governor will defer to the DA-elect’s review and analysis of the Menendez case prior to making any clemency decisions.”Current District Attorney George Gascón, who has voiced strong support for the Menendez brothers’ clemency petition and submitted letters to the governor advocating for them, requested a judge in October to resentence the siblings, who are serving life without parole. With Hochman set to take office in December, questions have arisen about the future of the resentencing effort and the clemency process. The brothers, family members and the public deserve a thorough review, Hochman said. The renewed examination of the Menendez case comes more than 35 years after Jose and Kitty Menendez were shot dead in their Beverly Hills home. In the subsequent trial, much of the evidence regarding the alleged abuse was deemed inadmissible, resulting in the brothers’ conviction and life sentences.
