Luggage for Style-Conscious Travelers: 5 Expert Picks
  + stars: | 2022-12-09 | by ( Laura Neilson | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +1 min
WITH A DIZZYING number of luggage brands on the market, zeroing in on a new, well-constructed suitcase to fit your particular travel needs—not to mention your ski gear or that ambitious stack of beach reads—can seem like a herculean task. “[You need to] bring your things in. See how it feels when you pull a suitcase around the store,” said Ms. Paradise, whose family has been in the luggage business since 1977. Globe-trotting travel television host Samantha Brown concurs, and wisely suggested another strategy: Vigorously jiggling the case’s handle. With those must-haves in mind, and input from some inveterate jet-setters, we settled on five categorical winners likely to please travelers with an eye for both fashion and function.
WASHINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - The U.S Senate does not plan to take up President Joe Biden's nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) until next year, a key lawmaker said. Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell, who heads the panel that overseas the FAA, told Reuters late on Tuesday she planned to hold a hearing for Denver International Airport Chief Executive Phil Washington to head the FAA after the new Congress convenes in January. Cantwell said she plans to meet next week with Washington, who was nominated in July but not yet had a hearing. The Democratic lawmaker said she believes the White House will stand by Washington and renominate him next year. Washington, a former CEO of the Los Angeles public transport system, previously told Bloomberg News "all the allegations are false."

Navigating the world of airports and airplanes at this time can be stressful, but if anyone’s an expert in holiday travel, it’s flight attendants. That said, sometimes flight attendants are only in a destination for 24 hours. Flight attendants support this kind of switching about, but will try not to interfere unless there are issues. And yes, some celebrities have a reputation for being rude, and that reputation will spread among flight attendants. I think a lot of flight attendants would agree with me on that.”What strange things do people leave behind in the cabin?
United Airlines is opening a new kind of lounge at Denver International Airport, and it's not designed for travelers to linger. The roughly 1,600-square-foot lounge, called United Club Fly, is a "grab-and-go" facility with complimentary food options like sandwiches, wraps and salads as well as smaller items like Noosa yogurt cups and treats like Milk Bar Birthday Cake Truffles. A barista will offer made-to-order coffee drinks like cappuccinos, but there is also a self-serve coffee machine and a water bottle refilling station. Seating is limited: 16 seats and standing room for eight people at a bar. Travelers scan their boarding pass to enter and can't bring guests, like they can at standard United Clubs.
Capital OneCapital One will offer its own premium hotel booking program with the launch of the Premier Collection for Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card members. Read Insider's guide to the best travel rewards credit cards. And it's got a lot in common with existing credit card hotel programs, like Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts and Chase's Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection. To access the Capital One Premier Collection, you'll need to have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or Capital One Spark Travel Elite card (only available through Capital One Business relationship managers). Oftentimes, credit card hotel booking programs have higher rates than booking through the property (or chain) directly.
Frontier Airlines "recently" held discussions with SpaceX about adding its Starlink satellite internet service to its planes and is more hopeful about adding such a product than in previous years, the carrier's CEO told CNBC on Thursday. Adding Starlink's Wi-Fi would be a departure for the budget carrier, which doesn't currently offer inflight internet service. Most major U.S. airlines offer Wi-Fi on board for a fee, though many are trying to improve the quality and lower the cost. In June, the FCC authorized SpaceX to provide mobile Starlink internet service to boats, planes and trucks. Denver-based Frontier has explored adding Wi-Fi on board before and frequently talks with other providers but, so far, hasn't been able to justify the cost.

CNN —It’s enough to give anyone already on edge about how to handle possible flight delays and cancellations yet another reason to pop an antacid or two: the prospect of delayed, lost or damaged baggage. There are things you can do and strategies you can take to help avoid losing a bag or at least minimize the impact of delayed, lost, stolen and damaged luggage. “Many times, airline personnel will explain that the luggage has been located but will be delayed until the next flight,” Travelers United says. Liability limits: There’s fine print, exceptions and paperwork / documentation hurdles, but you can eventually get cash for your lost bags. Damaged bags: If you see your luggage is damaged while still at the airport, report it there.

One of the best perks that comes with The Platinum Card® from American Express is that you can access a ton of airport lounges. This morning, American Express announced another new expansion of one of the Platinum Card's best perks. While the Platinum Card has a higher fee than most credit cards — $695 — it also comes with rewards, perks, and benefits that more than outweigh that fee. The Centurion Lounges are only accessible to Platinum Card cardholders (and people with the invitation-only "Black" card). In addition to the Centurion Lounges, American Express operates eleven "International American Express Lounges" at foreign airports including in Mumbai, Delhi, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Sydney, and, most recently announced, Melbourne.
