It was a moment that encapsulated one of the biggest challenges facing her campaign – which, in the end, proved insurmountable. CNN spoke with over a dozen senior Harris campaign aides both in the Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters and on the ground in the states, as well as multiple volunteers and local elected officials, over the course of the final weeks of the race. Vice President Kamala Harris makes her way to board Air Force Two before departing Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin on September 20. Biden could have taken on a role as steward and elder statesman, rather than a guy the Harris campaign never knew quite what do with. And those tensions manifested from almost the start of this short campaign, in the internal wrangling over who Harris should pick as her running mate.

Kremlin officials and allies welcomed Donald Trump's 2024 election win. AdvertisementKremlin officials and allies celebrated as Donald Trump closed in on victory in the 2024 election. Meanwhile, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund, said a Trump victory could help improve Russia's relationship with the US. Despite the understated response from the Kremlin, there are indications that the Russian leadership has long favored a Trump victory in the election. Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Wednesday he had dismissed Finance Minister Christian Lindner, possibly bringing an end to Germany's ruling coalition after months of political wrangling. The three-year-old union between Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and Lindner's Free Democratic Party (FDP) has been on shaky ground for some time, with differing budget and economic policy positions causing tensions and clashes. It wasn't immediately clear if Lindner's departure would lead to the FDP exiting the coalition. Scholz said he would call for a vote of no confidence on Jan. 15 in parliament, raising the possibility of elections earlier than scheduled in March. But that is precisely not Christian Lindner's focus right now, he is focused on his own clientele."

The data make it clear that most provisional ballots are likely to come from voters with outstanding mail ballots, rather than voters who’ve already returned deficient mail ballots. And they also make it clear that those provisional ballots may favor Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. Voters who have returned deficient mail ballots and have yet to fix them can vote on Election Day, typically by provisional ballot. Meanwhile, as mentioned above, an estimated 35,000 might cast provisional ballots after having not returned their mail ballots at all. There may well be future litigation revisiting, yet again, whether to count provisional ballots cast by people who previously returned deficient mail ballots.

That’s why Trump, who closely follows the stock market and obsessed over it as president, should be nervous about the recent trend on Wall Street. If the market goes down, the incumbent party gets replaced,” Stovall told CNN in a phone interview Monday. Market indicator was right in 2016 and 2020Vice President Kamala Harris should feel relieved the market has seen solid gains. In 2016, the S&P 500 dipped 2.2% in the lead-up to Trump’s matchup with the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. Yet there’s another market indicator that offers a reason for hope for the Harris camp.

Her victory is a relief for Democrats, who were facing a daunting Senate landscape before this race came on the map. Neither made their history-making potential a key message on the trail, but it was resonant in a state where Black voters – and Black women in particular – are a crucial part of the electorate. The Democratic Party quickly united around Alsobrooks, who already had the backing of most of the state’s congressional delegation.

CNN —The tumultuous 2024 election is ending with a contrast that encapsulates America’s fateful choice on election eve. The vice president also proposes reforms to improve the lives of working Americans — but hers are less revolutionary than Trump’s. If she loses Pennsylvania, Harris would need a combination of other swing states, including Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, where poll averages also show no clear leader. But the findings, which suggested a shift toward Harris from the previous Iowa Poll in September, also showed the vice president with a strong advantage among women. If such a pattern is repeated nationwide, the vice president could be headed to victory if she can limit her deficit to Trump among White males especially.

With so much at stake, CNN has identified 10 races to watch on Tuesday – grouped into buckets that nod to broader themes across the House landscape. Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger decided against seeking a fourth term, instead launching a campaign for governor in 2025. Democratic Rep. Jared Golden has crafted a moderate profile by challenging his party on issues ranging from spending to immigration. This year she faces a challenge from GOP state Rep. Gabe Evans, a fellow Mexican American and a former Army helicopter pilot and police officer. GOP Rep. Zach Nunn, an Air Force officer, was first elected in 2022 – defeating Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne by about 2,000 votes.

Outrage has followed the release of a video from a Halloween parade in Pennsylvania that seemed to depict Vice President Kamala Harris tied to a golf cart carrying a man wearing a mask of former President Donald Trump. The float moved along a main street in Mount Pleasant, a town of about 4,000 people located 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. A video appeared to show a woman dressed as Harris with her hands tied at the Halloween parade Wednesday. The fire department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News or share who did the float belong to. The fire department said on Facebook that it has “traditionally only provided safety & traffic control” during the parade.

Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi conceded defeat in the general election Friday, in a seismic moment of change for the country that ended the ruling party’s 58 years in power since independence from Britain in the 1960s. Masisi’s concession came before final results were announced, with his Botswana Democratic Party trailing in fourth place in the parliamentary elections in what appeared to be a humbling rejection by voters and a landslide victory for the main opposition party. The opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change held an overwhelming lead in the partial results, making its candidate, Duma Boko, the favorite to become president of a southern African country that is one of the world’s biggest producers of mined diamonds. “I concede the election,” Masisi said in an early-morning press conference two days after the vote. Although I wanted a second term, I will respectfully step aside and participate in a smooth transition process.”

After a messy election, the Bank of Japan decided to hold its benchmark policy rate at 0.25%, as expected. These outlook risks highlight that the timing of the next BOJ rate hike could depend heavily on developments overseas, as well as the exchange rate and its impact on the Japanese economy, Otani added. He added that it would surpass the 13 trillion yen ($84.6 billion) allocated in last year's supplementary budget. When Ishiba returns, he is expected to hold an extraordinary Diet session, during which he hopes to pass the supplementary budget plan, according to local news.
