Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and her husband Paul Pelosi arrive on the red carpet for the Time 100 Gala at the Lincoln Center in New York on April 23, 2019. The California man accused of viciously attacking Paul Pelosi with a hammer was prepared to kidnap and break the kneecaps of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when he invaded the couple's San Francisco home, federal prosecutors revealed in a new criminal complaint Monday. DePape already was facing state charges of attempted murder and other felonies in the early Friday morning attack on Paul Pelosi. Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat who is second in the line of presidential succession, was in Washington, D.C., at the time of the break-in. DePape arrived at her San Francisco home toting zip ties, tape, rope, and at least one hammer, authorities said.

John Fetterman's campaign said Wednesday it raised more than $1 million in just three hours following the Democratic Senate candidate's debate with his Republican rival, Dr. Mehmet Oz. The "unprecedented" haul demonstrates "deep grassroots enthusiasm" for Fetterman, his campaign said. "It's clear that the people of Pennsylvania have John's back in this race," Fetterman campaign manager Brendan McPhillips said in a press release announcing the post-debate fundraising windfall. Each candidate also repeatedly accused the other of lying, echoing the aggressively rancorous tone that has defined the pivotal Pennsylvania Senate race for months. Fetterman and Oz are competing to succeed GOP Sen. Pat Toomey, who is retiring at the end of the term.
The debate offers the Democrat's biggest opportunity yet to prove his detractors wrong in front of a statewide audience. A Fetterman campaign official told Reuters that the campaign has realistic expectations of the debate. The Oz campaign did not respond to requests for comment. Oz argues that Fetterman’s record of seeking lenIency for criminals as head of the state’s Board of Pardons shows he will make Pennsylvania less safe. "The Oz campaign has been strategically smart," said Chris Borick, a pollster at Pennsylvania's Muhlenberg College.
"Pod Save America" co-host Jon Lovett joked with Obama about the age of the nation's leaders. Lovett quipped whether the next generation of leadership Obama talks about was "The Silent Generation. "Did you intend on that to be the Silent Generation?" One possible explanation is that as president, Obama presided over two disastrous midterms for his party that greatly depleted Democrat's bench to draw on for bigger races. Now, with his former vice president in the Oval Office, the 44th president said he can focus on the next generation of leaders.
Dozens of zombie congressional campaign committees together are sitting on nearly $200 million, NBCLX reported. More than half of the Romney presidential committee's remaining $92,000 was transferred to his US Senate committee, which reported about $325,000 cash on hand as of June 30. Asked why it took so long for Romney's campaign to shut down, a former Romney campaign official said it's a "several years' long process to shut down a presidential campaign committee." Obama terminated his 2012 presidential campaign committee more than two years ago, on July 15, 2018. Santorum's 2012 presidential committee owes about $450,000, while his 2016 presidential committee remains about $520,000 in arrears.
