MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans want to make it a crime to be naked in public for any reason and for a child to attend any event, like a naked bike ride, where people don’t have clothes on. “This is a pretty serious, especially in today’s society.”The World Naked Bike Ride has been happening in cities across the world for more than 20 years. Political Cartoons View All 1199 ImagesA photo from the Madison event posted on Facebook showed that a girl under age 18 participated. Under current law, being naked is only a crime if the public exposure is indecent. Jeff Weigand, a Dane County Board supervisor who complained to police about the naked bike ride, testified in favor of the proposals Thursday.

Japanese yen and U.S. dollar banknotes are seen with a currency exchange rate graph in this illustration picture taken June 16, 2022. The yen eased to 149.83 per dollar, its weakest in more than 11 months, moving ever closer to the 150 mark that some traders believe could prompt intervention by Tokyo to support the currency. "If the yen breaks 150 per dollar, which I think is likely, and verbal intervention is not followed by action then we could see dollar-yen at 155." In the broader currency market, sterling was last 0.4% lower at $1.2158, having slid nearly 4% against the dollar in the third quarter. Elsewhere, the Australian dollar slid 0.6% to $0.6395, while the New Zealand dollar edged 0.4% lower to $0.5972, as traders looked ahead to rate decisions from their respective central banks this week.

Ozanne and Chisholm, both Democrats, announced last year that they would permit abortions in their counties despite a 174-year-old state law that conservatives argue bans the procedure. They said the state law barring abortions remains in effect and Ozanne and Chisholm have a duty to enforce it because babies are dying. The U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision essentially legalized abortion nationwide and nullified state abortion bans, including Wisconsin's. But Wisconsin legislators never erased the 1849 ban from state law. The case will likely end up before the state Supreme Court.

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Poverty levels in Colombia declined slightly in 2022, according to a report from the government's DANE statistics agency, although the proportion of people living in extreme poverty rose slightly. The share of Colombians living in poverty fell to 36.6% in 2022 - equivalent to 18.3 million people in the country of 50 million - down from 39.7% in 2021, the agency said in a report on Friday. However, while poverty declined overall, the share of the population living in extreme poverty rose slightly to 13.8% last year, from 13.7% in 2021, DANE said, adding that 6.9 million people were living in extreme poverty in Colombia in 2022. President Gustavo Petro, Colombia's first leftist leader, took power in August last year after winning an election with promises to fight poverty and inequality and to increase access to healthcare, among other pledges. According to the report, DANE defines poverty as those surviving on some $3.30 a day, while those in extreme poverty live on around $1.65 a day or less.

Sept 15 (Reuters) - Alberto Dainese of Team DSM-Firmenich narrowly avoided a massive crash in the final kilometre to sprint to victory in stage 19 of the Vuelta a Espana on Friday while American Sepp Kuss of Jumbo-Visma finished safely in the peloton to retain the overall lead. Filippo Ganna was in the ideal position at the front and opened up the final sprint but Dainese timed his sprint to perfection to edge out his fellow Italian by milliseconds. Dainese said the victory was special as he is leaving the team for Tudor Pro Cycling next term. "Today I felt a lot of pressure because I knew it was the last opportunity for a sprint. A sign is pictured at the entrance to a Planned Parenthood building in New York August 31, 2015./File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 14 (Reuters) - Planned Parenthood will resume abortion care at two facilities in Wisconsin for the first time in more than a year, it said on Thursday following a county court ruling that an 1849 state law did not apply to most consensual abortions. In the wake of that ruling, abortion care will again be available starting on Monday at Planned Parenthood centers in Milwaukee and Madison, according to Tanya Atkinson, the president of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. The people of Wisconsin have been without this essential and necessary care for over a year," said Atkinson in a video statement. Planned Parenthood, the state's biggest abortion provider, is the first to make the announcement. "Planned Parenthood is more concerned about their bottom line and keeping abortion dollars in Wisconsin than finding a way to help women in unplanned pregnancies," said Heather Weininger, the head of Wisconsin Right to Life, in a statement.

Sept 14 (Reuters) - Belgium's Remco Evenepoel claimed his third victory in this year's Vuelta a Espana with a solo attack on a mountainous stage 18 and Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss moved a step closer to winning his first Grand Tour on Thursday. Evenepoel's hopes of fighting the Jumbo-Visma riders for the overall title evaporated on stage 13 when he was dropped on the Col d'Aubisque and lost 27 minutes. "It was a super good opportunity to take the points for my jersey -- I took all the points -- and my third stage win is amazing to end the Vuelta with." Provided he avoids any mishaps on Friday and Saturday, Kuss will be a popular champion in Madrid. The third set was all one-way traffic as Gauff's speedy defense, pinpoint serving and terrific play at the net overwhelmed former two-time quarterfinalist Mertens. "It's a matchup I never thought I'd have to play," Gauff said of former world number one Wozniacki, who retired in 2020 to start a family and returned to the game last month. "When she retired I remember saying that I wish I could have played her. "I don't know if it's a battle of generations," she said of the matchup between Gauff, 19, and the 33-year-old Dane.

However it was Wozniacki, twice a U.S. Open finalist, who showed more fitness and a little less competitive rust, winning 11 of 12 games after dropping the opening set. "I guess I always had the belief in myself," said Wozniacki. Would I have been surprised had I lost in the first round? "I can't really compare her level before or after coming back from retirement," said Brady after facing Wozniacki for the first time. Aug 28, 2023; Flushing, NY, USA; Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark hits to Tatiana Prozorova on day one of the 2023 U.S. Open at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. "It feels amazing to be back," said Wozniacki, who booked a place in the next round against Czech 11th seed Petra Kvitova. The former Australian Open champion wobbled on serve at 5-1 but broke Prozorova immediately afterwards to close out the win. We could have met in the first round," Wozniacki said. I know if I'm playing my best tennis I believe that I can beat anyone in the draw.
