The Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibits discrimination in credit transactions. However, it's worth acknowledging that things aren't as bleak as they were decades ago — and a big part of that credit goes to the enactment of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. What is the Equal Credit Opportunity Act? The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) is a federal law that promotes fairness and prohibits discrimination in credit transactions. Your rights under the Equal Credit Opportunity ActBefore applying for a loan or taking out a line of credit, make sure you know your rights under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act so you're not taken advantage of.

CNN —Like its titular tornados, “Twisters” blasts through a lot in its 122-minute runtime. Generally, scientists are the least certain about the connection between tornadoes and climate change as it’s unclear how warming temperatures are changing storms themselves or the outbreaks. Cathy, a local farmer, gripes that storms and floods are becoming more frequent, and the price of wheat more expensive, while stopping short of citing climate change. Rich Weiss wouldn't be surprised if the Federal Reserve cuts rates twice this year — and potentially before the November election. The comments from Weiss come as Wall Street continues to weigh whether the Federal Reserve will cut rates before year-end. But Weiss urges investors to diversify in this concentrated market. Although a riskier bet, Weiss is also finding opportunities in the real estate sector, which he expects should recover as rates fall. Bonds also look attractive should yields continue to come down, and could outperform stocks through the end of 2024, he added.

London CNN —British voters have handed the Labour Party its first election victory in almost two decades, hoping that a new center-left government will revive Britain’s ailing economy and fix collapsing public services. The win is a triumph for Keir Starmer, a former chief prosecutor who only entered parliament in 2015 and will become prime minister later Friday. “It feels good, I have to be honest.”But Labour’s jubilation may soon give way to trepidation given the economic challenges ahead. Making these problems even harder to solve: stubbornly low economic growth. To some extent, the government is likely hoping economic growth will be stronger than forecast and help with both goals.

Read previewIf you opened Instagram last July 5, the buzz about Threads was hard to miss. Threads plans to become more independent, but Instagram still drives a lot of the trafficRecent data from Emarketer found that Instagram has been a big driver of users to Threads — out of Threads' 29 million US users in 2023, 21% were Instagram users, while in 2024, that share rose to 29% out of 41.7 million users. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri confirmed in a recent interview with Platformer that a lot of the platform's users were "coming over from Instagram." However, Instagram still reminds Threads users who dropped off to keep using the platform, like Kristin Bousquet, a creator who has 5,412 followers on Threads. "Just having the ability to go to someone's Instagram account from Threads, and vice versa, keeps it top of mind," he said.

The paintings are older than Europe’s famed cave art such as Lascaux in France, and, while younger than some geometric abstract art found in South Africa, it’s the oldest of a narrative scene, the authors of the study said. The cave art discoveries have challenged a longstanding belief that artistic expression — and the cognitive leap that fired up the human imagination — began in Europe. BRIN Google Arts & CultureEvolution of dating techniquesDating cave art is often difficult if the work is made with mineral pigments such as ocher or manganese rather than biological materials such as carbon. The study’s dating of the cave art is robust, but it’s “a leap of faith” to suggest that the figurative art was narrative in scope, said Paul Pettitt, a professor of archaeology at Durham University in the United Kingdom. It’s also unclear why so much cave art has been found in this region of Indonesia, Aubert said, but he and his team expected to find more.

How Britain’s political parties got their colors

While these are the only two parties with a realistic chance of winning the election, other smaller parties across the British political system offer a veritable kaleidoscope of differing — and sometimes duplicate — colours. The Liberal Democrats (orange), and Reform UK (turquoise) and the Green Party (you guessed it), are all vying for votes. Labour Party leader Keir Starmer during the launching of Labour Party election manifesto, in Manchester, on June 13, 2024. Among the smaller parties, color choices have sometimes been relatively straightforward – the Green Party uses green, unsurprisingly, due to its obvious connections with environmentalism. Barring a major shock, Labour leader Keir Starmer will be the person walking through the famous black door of 10 Downing Street in less than three weeks’ time. His parents were political, naming their eldest after the first Labour leader in parliament, Keir Hardie. “He’s the first Labour leader in a generation to talk about class and snobbery,” Tom Baldwin, author of “Keir Starmer: The Biography,” told CNN. UK millionaires are fleeing Britain in their thousands
  + stars: | 2024-06-18 | by ( Mark Thompson | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
The continuing exodus from the UK — 16,500 millionaires left between 2017 and 2023 — is part of a global mass migration of the rich that appears to be accelerating. The Henley Private Wealth Migration report found that 128,000 millionaires are set to relocate this year, beating last year’s record by 8,000. By contrast, the ranks of the wealthy have grown in the US, Canada, Australia, Germany and France over the same period. “The outflow of high-net-worth individuals already generated by the economic and political context is now being accelerated by policy decisions ahead of the election,” said White. Still, one very rich couple will apparently be staying, whatever the result on July 4.
