Those are just a few of the takeaways in a new book, “this is so awkward,” aptly lowercased and titled to break down all things puberty for today's parents. The book, out this week from Rodale, is written by pediatrician Cara Natterson, whose “Care & Keeping of You” series has sold more than 7 million copies, and Vanessa Kroll Bennett, a puberty educator and Natterson's co-host of “The Puberty Podcast." AP: One of the things that really struck me about the book is the often inconclusive state of science on puberty, leaving parents to suss out the truth for themselves. So issues of sleep, issues of self-esteem, issues of body image. This is a perfect opportunity for a do-over because controlling our kids' social media feels so big and it feels so hard.

Meta in 2020 officially formed the Responsible AI (RAI) team with about 30 members of staff. Over the last year, the group's numbers have dwindled, according to five people familiar with the company and its AI work. A shrinking of the RAI team comes at a time when AI has become a global phenomenon . The Responsible AI team was restructuredJerome Pesenti, who was vice president of Meta's AI group, including the RAI team, left last summer and founded his own AI company Sizzle AI. The future of AI is set to be "spiritually, politically, and economically" corrosive, Lanier said. He noted that people building AI tech should let go of sci-fi wish fulfillment. He noted that, while this year has been the "year of AI," next year the world is going to be "flooded, flooded with AI-generated music." A deluge of generative AI content, from simple search prompts to eerie deepfakes, is now up for broad government regulation. In addition to AI-generated content nixing human connection found through creative works and causing an eventual collapse of the creative economy, Lanier said AI-generated content that can be perfected and customized also undermines peoples' "sense of reality.

Artists and image owners can now ask OpenAI to remove their images from DALL-E training data. OpenAI recently unveiled a new form that image owners and creators can use to request that owned or copyrighted images be removed from DALL-E training data. AI models need high quality, and human generated training data to perform well. "Enraging"Toby Bartlett, an artist with a namesake consulting firm, wrote on Threads that OpenAI's DALL-E opt-out process is "enraging." Banknotes of Japanese yen and U.S. dollar are seen in this illustration picture taken September 23, 2022. The data comes on the heels of disappointing data from Europe, which showed that economic activity in France fell much more quickly than expected in September. Separate survey data covering the whole euro zone showed that the economy likely contracted in the third quarter. The yen dropped as low as 148.42 to the dollar, nearing the 150-mark at which analysts have said government intervention to prop up the currency is likely. Glass Lewis argued that Stratasys should look at a revised bid it received from 3D Systems this month (DDD.N) but rejected, according to the Glass Lewis note, which was published on Friday and seen by Reuters. On Wednesday, Institutional Shareholder Services, Glass Lewis' bigger competitor, also recommended against the Desktop Metal deal. Glass Lewis wrote that the Desktop Metal merger "could be a reasonable transaction from the point of Stratasys." Stratasys made its all-stock bid for Desktop Metal in May in a transaction valued at about $1.8 billion. "In our view, the 3D Systems offer presents not only compelling value for Stratasys shareholders, but also lower regulatory hurdles and greater potential scale as composed to the Desktop Metal merger.

"It is not clear that it (the all-stock offer Stratasys made for Desktop Metal) creates value for 3D printer manufacturer Stratasys shareholders," ISS wrote in its note to clients with a headline "vote against acquisition at SSYS meeting." The directors felt this deal was more attractive than others, including overtures from 3D Systems and Nano Dimension. But as Stratasys', Desktop Metal's and 3D Systems' share prices have dropped in the last 52 weeks, ISS argued that 3D Systems' cash and stock offer for Stratasys "holds out an important hedge against further declines." 3D Systems offered to pay $7 in cash and 1.6387 3D shares per Stratasys share, which would leave them owning 46% of the combined company. Stratasys investor Nano Dimension, which owns 14.1% of the company, said last week that it would vote against the merger.

It was a mostly staid meeting until the potential harms from Meta's new Llama 2 model came up. That prompted a testy exchange between Harris and Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Meta, formerly known as Facebook. "It was, 'Ok, next speaker,' it moved right along," one of the senators present said. Elon Musk recently laid off more Twitter employees working on the platform's trust and safety efforts, roles typically crucial to keeping a social media platform safe for advertisers. While this layoff only affected a handful of people, five to 10, it was focused entirely on workers in trust and safety. Such workers are responsible for overseeing daily communications on Twitter, and mitigating the appearance and spread of toxic content, mainly so businesses feel comfortable advertising on the platform. As Musk courts controversy , conspiracy , and antisemitism , the advertising business on Twitter, renamed X, has plummeted by more than half and usage has waned . By mid-November, Twitter's trust and safety team had no engineers and no agents, as Insider reported, leaving the team mainly in the hands of people who did administrative work.

Another said the whole design process for a large metal mold would typically cost about $4 million. To overcome the obstacles, Tesla turned to firms that make test molds out of industrial sand with 3D printers. To cast subframes with hollows as part of one gigacasting, Tesla plans to place solid sand cores printed by the binder jets within the overall mold. But despite that greater flexibility achieved in both the design process and the complexity of the large frames, there was still one more major hurdle to clear. And once Tesla is happy with the prototype mold, it can then invest in a final metal one for mass production.

Yields on one-year real estate bonds rated AA- have widened 220 bps in the past month, data from Chinabond shows. That divergence reflects investors' expectations that Beijing will support LGFVs in order to minimise financial contagion, despite rising delinquencies among developers. The chorus of economists calling for China to support LGFVs as part of measures to shore up the economy has grown.
