REUTERS/Mike BlakePARIS, June 13 (Reuters) - Global aviation needs $4 trillion of capital over the next 20 years to fund new commercial deliveries and transform the world's fleet, leasing firm Avolon said on Tuesday. The world's commercial passenger aircraft fleet is set to nearly double to 46,880 aircraft by 2042, the Dublin-based firm predicted. Environmental critics say such rapid growth of commercial aviation is at odds with its environmental objectives. Avolon has said the main focus should be on increasing the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuels. Europe's Airbus will maintain leadership of the narrow-body market with its current 53% share of the fleet rising to 58% by 2042, Avolon predicted.

Even as the thirst for travel remains strong, the changing trends are driving up airlines' operating costs and hurting revenue. Travel demand has also softened on days in the middle of the week, but has strengthened on peak days. Frontier Airlines (ULCC.O) decided to slash flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by about 20%, citing weak demand. Delta Airlines (DAL.N) reported that bookings for trips inside 30 days were declining, while those outside 30 days were stronger. Last year, it denied boarding to more customers than American Airlines (AAL.O) and United, U.S. Transportation Department data shows.

REUTERS/Jim Vondruska/File PhotoNEW YORK, May 10 (Reuters) - A gloomy forecast from vacation rental firm Airbnb (ABNB.O) weighed on travel-related stocks on Wednesday as an expected slowdown in bookings signaled an impending slump in travel demand with consumers seeking cheaper accommodation amid inflation and recession fears. Airbnb's forecast will heighten caution in the travel sector, which encompasses hotels, airlines, and vacation rental firms, according to an investor note by JPMorgan analysts, led by Doug Anmuth. "We also believe Airbnb's commentary will result in increased caution in the travel space, but more specifically around vacation and the U.S.," the analysts said. Travel is showing no signs of cooling off this summer, as both demand and prices are expected to stay high. "There's still a lot of pent of demand going back to the pandemic," Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel said on "Squawk on the Street" last week. He also pointed to the TSA checkpoint travel numbers, which are now within a few percentage points compared to the number of travelers seen in 2019. That demand has kept prices high, Fogel said, noting recent trips he's taken. "[Consumers] have gone three years without having the experiences they want, including last summer," Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian said on "Squawk Box" earlier this week.

The Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes have made markets volatile, but some stocks have still managed to outperform. The S & P 500 is down 6.6% since March 15, 2022 — one day before the central bank began its campaign to push interest rates to almost 5% today from near 0% a year ago. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told Congress Tuesday that rates will likely continue higher for longer to contain inflation, fueling a selloff in stocks. Here are some of the stocks that can continue to gain even as the Fed lifts its likely peak interest rate, and where analysts expect the stocks to trade in the future. Analysts are optimistic that Delta Airlines will manage to continue its gains — 86% of analysts rate the stock a buy.

AMSTERDAM, March 3 (Reuters) - KLM and other airlines on Friday said they are suing the Dutch government over plans to cap the number of annual flights allowed at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, saying it would hurt them, the Dutch economy and travellers. Others joining the KLM suit include Delta Airlines, easyJet, TUI and Turkey's Corendon Airlines. But the decision to cap the flights cited noise and air pollution concerns, not traveller's' distress. Schiphol Airport Group, which was also issued a summons in the KLM-led case, said it "regretted" the suit. Last month the airport said it would impose a 66,000 passenger per day cap for the 2023 May vacation period due to still-unresolved labour shortages.
