NFL owners voted Tuesday to allow private equity firms to take a maximum 10% stake in teams. The league has never allowed private equity investment before. No other league takes a percentage of the so-called carry — the percentage of a fund's investment profits that managers typically receive as compensation — for all private equity firms. Sitting in a KFC restaurant in the former coal-mining town of Pomeroy, Ohio, a few hours before JD Vance addressed the Republican National Convention, Curtis Ramsey, 18, recalled the first time he heard the Ohio senator’s name. It was last month, he said, in the Washington office of another Ohio Republican, Representative Jim Jordan. Mr. Ramsey, who had never been to a big city or flown on an airplane before, was in the capital with two filmmakers seeking to draw attention to a new documentary, “Inheritance.” The film features Mr. Ramsey and examines the plight of drug-ravaged Appalachian communities like his own. When the filmmakers, Matt Moyer and his wife, Amy Toensing, explained to Mr. Jordan what their documentary was about, the congressman broke into a smile. “Sounds like the story of the next vice president of the United States!” Mr. Jordan said.

CNN —Five wins to open his UFC career had Tom Aspinall on course for a title shot. A kick from Aspinall connected with Blaydes’ leg and the British fighter dropped to the canvas, clutching his knee in pain, with the fight ending prematurely. The UFC is seen as the pinnacle of MMA and therefore comes with increased attention, but Aspinall was unfazed. Aspinall says it will be "great" co-headlining UFC 304, an event featuring British fighters competing in each bout. CNN —Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey will resign his seat effective August 20, according to a copy of his resignation letter obtained by CNN. Menendez had faced mounting pressure from within his own party to resign or face the threat of expulsion from the Senate. Receipt of Menendez’s resignation letter was announced Tuesday on the Senate floor in a brief exchange between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Presiding Officer Sen. Peter Welch, a Democrat from Vermont. “In light of this guilty verdict, Senator Menendez must now do what is right for his constituents, the Senate, and our country, and resign,” Schumer said in a statement. Menendez stepped down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last year, but had long rejected calls to resign his US Senate seat.
