I've been a college professor for 20 years, and I'm seeing more Gen X and Baby Boomer students. I no longer lecture to the class and instead let the older students take the lead. An increasing number of college students aren't kids anymore; they're older — many of whom are my generational peers. It's changed the way students learn and the way I teach. I quickly realized they learn differentlyI've noticed that older learners engage in ways that are different from traditional college students.

While some reviews did laud Swift’s latest offering, the album failed to dazzle a healthy branch of critics. Had Swift’s run as a brilliant pop star finally run its course? It was with those reviews in mind that I hit play last Friday afternoon and visited “The Tortured Poets Department” for myself. Initially, “Tortured Poets” failed to resonate with me. That is because it takes more than a day to get one’s arms around a 31-track album like “Tortured Poets.” Swift’s album demands time to be fully appreciated.

New Delhi CNN —Indian voters are battling sweltering conditions to take part in the world’s biggest election as a severe heat wave hits parts of the country and authorities forecast a hotter-than-normal summer for the South Asian nation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a heat wave will affect parts of south and east India until the end of the week, including four states that are voting on Friday. Climate politicsIndia, the world’s most populous nation with 1.4 billion people, often experiences heat waves during the summer months of May and June. But in recent years, they have arrived earlier and become more prolonged, with scientists linking some of these longer and more intense heat waves to the climate crisis. Last year successive heat waves hit India again, closing schools, damaging crops and putting pressure on energy supplies.

Some career experts liken LinkedIn to a living, breathing CV, while others say they spend longer on a candidate's LinkedIn profile than on their résumé. Shah shared three other ways candidates can optimize LinkedIn to stand out to hiring managers. Treat your LinkedIn profile like a résuméPeople are used to enhancing their résumés to stand out in employers' keyword-searching software. Add those phrases to your LinkedIn profile too, because recruiters look for candidates by typing in industry-related keywords, Shah said. This is because climate politics looks different in the developing world; it will shape Indian elections in definitive but under-the-radar ways. Similarly, stump speeches throughout this campaign season have not featured climate change as a central issue. The headwinds of climate change are absorbed by the electoral machine and emerge as end-of-tailpipe policies rather than grand climate strategy. This pattern of climate politics is reinforced by seemingly low recognition in India of climate change as a problem. The climate impacts buffeting the most populous nation on earth aren’t just a domestic issue — they’re an international one.

CNN —The union representing pilots at American Airlines says it is seeing a “significant spike” in safety issues on flights. There were roughly a dozen incidents on United Airlines flights last month alone, according to a CNN analysis, which prompted CEO Scott Kirby to send a safety message to customers. “While United Airlines is currently under public and government scrutiny, it could just as easily be American Airlines,” said the message from the union’s safety committee, urging members to report problems and to resist being rushed or intimidated. “As the last link in the safety chain, our passengers and crew depend on us to be the strongest link in that chain,” the message said. American Airlines insisted in a statement that safety is its top priority, saying that “our robust safety program is guided by our industry-leading safety management system.”“It includes a multitude of collaborative programs — and regular touchpoints — with the FAA and all our unions, including APA, to further bolster our strong safety record and enhance our ever-evolving safety culture,” the company added.

Match Made in Venice: Tadao Ando and Zeng Fanzhi

An American institution sponsors an exhibition by a Chinese artist in collaboration with a Japanese architect at a centuries-old Venetian building. This is the kind of far-flung constellation that can only come together during the Venice Biennale, when the historic Italian lagoon city turns into contemporary art’s grandest stage. While the Biennale itself is famed for its national pavilions, scores of collateral exhibitions, some organized independently, proliferate. Ando sculpts intricate yet airy interiors, enlivened by dramatic voids or unexpected lightwells, out of slabs of concrete. And the matchmaker is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which is sponsoring a collaborative exhibition in the impressive space of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in the Cannaregio district of Venice.

By designing a balloon-popping tablet game and collecting data from 20 pet parrots, the researchers found that birds’ interest in the game indicated mental stimulation could be a potential benefit. Each parrot popped virtual balloons by using its tongue and beak, with eyes often very close to the screen. Rébecca KleinbergerResearchers designed the tablet game to be used by a parrot in collaboration with the bird's caretaker. One bird showed more interest in playing the game after researchers adjusted the tablets to only account for one tap per 300 milliseconds, she added.
