A lot of people swear that these and other productivity hacks will help you get on top of your responsibilities and gain control of your time. They all left author and time management researcher Oliver Burkeman "pretty disillusioned," he tells CNBC Make It. If you feel like you're constantly trying to optimize your life, Burkeman has a counterintuitive piece of advice: Get comfortable with settling instead, he said on a recent episode of LinkedIn's "Everyday Better with Leah Smart" podcast. "Settling is not really about settling for less. Eventually, you'll probably have to accept the fact that you need to reschedule your meeting and stop taking on more work.

A key US license allowing Russian yuan transactions is set to expire mid-October. That could make Chinese banks more hesitant to deal in Russia, worsening Moscow's yuan shortage. AdvertisementIt may about to be way harder for Russia to get its hands on Chinese yuan. Dollar and euro trading on the Moscow Exchange have already been shut down with the latest round of Western sanctions. Chinese banks have also held up billions of dollars worth of yuan payments intended for Russia, Reuters reported last month, which has also contributed to the yuan shortage.

So she and Maggie had focused their hopes on getting a private scholarship. She considered paying $700 for an online class, heavily promoted on Facebook, that promised to show parents how to find college scholarships. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students like Maggie devote countless hours to the hunt for private scholarships to pay for college. The illness is treatable, but it's likely to cost the family $5,000 out of pocket — effectively wiping out the financial value of the private scholarship Maggie received.

Victims' families and a survivor of a Maryland bridge collapse that killed six people filed claims Friday for wrongful death and punitive damages against the owner and the operator of the massive cargo ship that crashed into the bridge earlier this year. The 100,000-plus-ton ship Dali slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the early hours of March 26 as a work crew was fixing potholes. Six construction workers died when the bridge went crumbling down into the Patapsco River. The nearly two dozen crew members on the ship survived, along with two pilots who were helping the vessel navigate the harbor. Days after the bridge collapse, the ship’s Singapore-based owner and manager petitioned a Maryland court to limit their monetary liability to $43.67 million, the value of the ship and its cargo, based on a pre-Civil War provision of maritime law.

Nike's CEO is stepping down, and some on Wall Street appear to be lukewarm about the news. On Thursday after the bell, the sneaker giant announced that CEO John Donahoe will be retiring on Oct. 13. Wells Fargo maintained its overweight rating and increased its target by $9 to $95, implying more than 17% upside ahead. "We expect multiple expansion commensurate with Hill's hire — as leadership has been a large point of contention and controversy surrounding the stock," analyst Ike Boruchow wrote in a note. Bernstein, which has an outperform rating on Nike, expects the turnaround "will take time," but said market sentiment will be sympathetic.

Earlier, he and Owen spotted the bear from a tree stand near Siren, Wisconsin, about 90 miles northeast of Minneapolis. Honolulu (AP) — Investigators reviewing the emergency response to last year’s wildfire that killed 102 people on Maui said in a report released Friday they found “no evidence” Hawaii officials made preparations for it, despite days of warnings that critical fire weather was coming. The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency didn’t immediately respond with comment. Maui fire commanders discussed the forecast, but “no evidence of pre-event preparedness plans by the MFD were produced,” the report said.
