CNN —Donald Trump is pulling one of the most iconic American companies – McDonald’s – into the political arena in the final days of his third White House bid. “I’m going to McDonald’s to work the french fry,” Trump told supporters Saturday at a rally in the Pittsburgh area. A campaign official told CNN that Harris worked at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during the summer of 1983 when she was still a student at Howard University in Washington. It’s unclear why Trump has latched on to Harris’ McDonald’s employment or why a visit there was warranted during one of his few remaining weekends before Election Day. “I think my father knows the McDonald’s menu much better than Kamala Harris ever did,” Trump Jr. said.

At a town hall hosted at a high school outside Philadelphia, Musk referred to the false conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems was part of a plot to rig U.S. elections in recent years. There’s always this question of, say, the Dominion voting machines. Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. Studies and investigations have found that there’s no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the U.S. When voter fraud has occurred, prosecutors have successfully brought cases against perpetrators including in a highly publicized fraud scheme in North Carolina.

I'm a Gen X child from the San Francisco Bay Area. Since that first move, I've lived in Alabama, Virginia, and Texas and returned to the Bay Area. A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked Alabama’s voter removal program that flagged thousands of registered voters and accused them of illegally registering in the state. The Justice Department sued the state of Alabama challenging the program aimed at removing voters from its election rolls, arguing it was too close to the Nov. 5 election. Allen announced a process for purging 3,251 registered Alabama voters in August, 84 days before Election Day. The case is among several instances of voter purges in Republican-led states ahead of this fall’s presidential election. The Justice Department lawsuit said it has already been determined that legal voters were mistakenly purged from the voter rolls.

Trump ejected Ramos from a press conference after the journalist confronted him over his immigration policy. In 2020, the Trump campaign derided Univision as “a mouthpiece” for the Democratic Party. A group of influential Latino organizations penned an open letter expressing “deep concern” over the Trump interview. Acevedo’s interview with Trump was the first time in 22 years a current or former Republican president sat with the network for an interview. But Trump’s comments on “paper ballots” have puzzled voting experts and election officials – because almost all voters nationwide already use paper ballots. Facts First: Trump’s insistence that the US switch to “paper ballots” is nonsensical. He has mentioned the “paper ballots” claim dozens of times this year alone. And ideally, we go to paper ballots, same-day voting, proof of citizenship – very big – and voter ID.”In an interview last month, Trump said one way to “solve this problem” of mass fraud was to “go to paper ballots.” At a rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he said, “we want to go to paper ballots.” And he said, “we want paper ballots,” in Montezuma Pass, Arizona. The Justice Department announced Friday that it is suing Virginia over its efforts to purge voter rolls within 90 days of an election, calling the state's actions a violation of federal voting laws. Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order requiring the state's Department of Elections to conduct daily updates to its voting list, including comparing the list of identified "noncitizens" to the state's existing list of registered voters. According to the Justice Department, some of the people identified as noncitizens are in fact U.S. citizens, leading to some voter registrations being cancelled unnecessarily. In a statement, Youngkin called the lawsuit "politically motivated" and a "desperate attempt" to attack the election's legitimacy. Virginia’s Department of Elections and elections commissioner — both named in the lawsuit — did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday evening.

The Trump campaign had pounced on Harris’ comments Tuesday on ABC's "The View" that "there’s not a thing that comes to mind" when she was asked what she would have done differently from Biden during his term. The Trump campaign also cut a video interspersing Harris’ quote with news clips about the widely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan and crime connected to migrants, as well as inflation. She said the legislation would have added 1,500 more border agents, "except Donald Trump got in the way of that bill." Harris took nearly a dozen questions from audience members at the town hall, which was moderated by journalist Enrique Acevedo, about issues from abortion to the cost of living. Biden won the state in 2020 with 50.1% of the vote to Trump's 47.7%.

VORONEZH, Russia — A Russian court on Monday sentenced U.S. citizen and ex-Marine Robert Gilman to seven years and one month in prison for assaulting a prison official and a state investigator, the local prosecutor’s office said. Gilman, 30, is already serving a 3-1/2-year sentence for attacking a police officer while drunk, a charge he was convicted of in October 2022. Prosecutors in Voronezh, a city about 300 miles (500 km) south of Moscow where Gilman is incarcerated, said he had attacked a prison employee and a state investigator on separate occasions in the autumn of 2023. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Russian state news agency RIA said Gilman, whose lawyers have previously told the TASS state news agency that he had come to Russia to study and obtain citizenship, had pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The new nine-month Supreme Court term officially starts Monday, with the justices appearing in the courtroom to hear oral arguments. Major cases at the Supreme Court: U.S. v. Republicans challenged those changes, but the Supreme Court never took up a case about the issue at the time. And Trump is all but guaranteed to resurface at the Supreme Court in coming weeks to clarify the sweeping criminal immunity the court bestowed on him in July. “As matters stand now, this feels like the court is keeping its powder dry in case the election explodes,” Carter Phillips, a veteran Supreme Court litigator, told CNN early last week. A poll released by the Annenberg Public Policy Center on Wednesday found 56% of Americans disapprove of the Supreme Court. Take, for instance, Trump’s ban on travel from predominately Muslim nations, which made repeat trips to the Supreme Court. And they’ve kept up a drumbeat of dubious claims about voting, along with the lie that the election was stolen in 2020. Prosecutors allege that the Trump campaign used similarly aggressive tactics in Philadelphia to force confrontation with election officials, which Trump and his allies used to claim his supporters were denied access to observe the count. Election officials have been operating in an increasingly hostile environment as GOP skepticism of election administration has climbed. Among them: shifting numbers of noncitizens Trump allies claimed had voted in the 2020 election. In Georgia, state courts are reviewing new rules from the State Election Board that Democrats say give county election officials broad authority to delay certification of the results in search of purported election irregularities.
