The New Mexico attorney general said Tuesday that internal documents from Snapchat released as part of an ongoing lawsuit show how the platform failed to manage and notify users about sextortion on the platform. The suit, which Attorney General Raúl Torrez originally filed in September, includes the text of some of Snap’s internal correspondence. Snapchat and other social media platforms, like Instagram and TikTok, have been under intensified scrutiny from both the federal and state governments. Leaders of Snap, TikTok, Meta, Discord and X all testified before Congress this year about child safety. In a statement on its website Tuesday, Snap said it has built a platform with “safety guardrails” and “deliberate design choices” to protect minors.

CNN —A Georgia judge has struck down the state’s six-week abortion ban, declaring it unconstitutional. In a ruling issued on Monday, Judge Robert McBurney said Georgia’s Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act, or LIFE Act, infringes on a woman’s state constitutional rights. When originally signed into law, the LIFE Act criminalized most abortions after an embryo generates detectable cardiac activity, typically around six weeks into a pregnancy. When the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and ended a national right to abortion, it opened the door for state bans. Democrats argue such deaths were a predictable outcome of laws that took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Members of Harris’ transition team have studied that one — the handoff from Ronald Reagan to George H.W. But now, as the dangers of a widening deficit and mounting debt grow, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are making little effort to address it. A budget deficit occurs when a country’s spending exceeds what it collects in revenue, primarily through taxes. The deficit is expected to widen under the status quo and could get even worse under proposals by both Harris and Trump, if enacted. During the Trump-Harris presidential debate earlier this month, the budget deficit was mentioned just twice, when Harris jabbed Trump for his proposals, which are expected to add considerably more to the deficit than hers. In the 2021 fiscal year, during which Trump left office, the country ran a $2.8 trillion deficit.

In her three years as a dating coach Kelsey Wonderlin has learned that the majority of the 200 people she's counseled care about how much their potential mate earns. Evaluating a person based on their salary might seem shallow, but how someone spends their money can be a bellwether of their priorities. However, outright asking how much a person makes on a first date is not the right way, or the right time, to figure out if you two align on how you handle money. "On a first date that would be a socially unacceptable question to ask," Wonderlin says. "It's an unrealistic viewpoint that if someone makes this certain number everything will be great," Wonderlin says.

☆ Black voters: Harris still lags behind Biden’s 2020 margins but new CNN poll suggests she has room to grow support

In the latest poll, 79% of Black registered voters say they would definitely vote, up from 68% in the June poll. The poll suggests Trump’s improvements among Black voters relative to 2020 are driven largely by Black voters under the age of 60. Harris is also generally viewed more favorably among Black registered voters compared with registered voters overall, even after accounting for Black voters’ overwhelming Democratic lean. Democratic Black likely voters, however, are twice as likely as Democratic likely voters overall to consider the economy their top issue (42%, compared with 19%). Results among Black registered voters have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 7.8 percentage points; among Black likely voters, it is plus or minus 7.7 percentage points.
