The C919 is China’s first homegrown mainline passenger plane, manufactured by the Shanghai-based state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). Steven Jiang/CNNI was happy to hear the flight attendant highlight the aircraft type in his pre-takeoff briefing. “Today you’re flying with Air China C919 aircraft, which is the first large airliner independently developed by China,” he said, as the jet taxied to the runway. Air China serves hot meals in economy during meal hours even for short-haul flights (today’s flying time: 1 hour 40 minutes). As far as my passenger expectation goes, this C919 flight has earned a solid B in terms of safety and comfort.

CNN —Scientists have discovered a new species of ghost shark that lives in deep ocean waters near Australia and New Zealand. A deep water animal, the ghost shark is scientifically known as chimaera and is closely related to sharks and rays. “Ghost sharks like this one are largely confined to the ocean floor, living in depths of up to 2,600m (8,530 feet). The ghost shark was found at a depth of around 1,200 meters (about 3,900 feet) on the Chatham Rise. “We don’t actually know a lot about ghost sharks,” Finucci told CNN at the time.

As the use of weight-loss drugs — notably Ozempic and Wegovy — grows, the 130-year-old confectionery company is adjusting to this new era by pushing further into the wellness category with protein powders and energy drinks in popular candy flavors. A shooting near my son's school in Los Angeles escalated our plans. In 2019, when my son was 2, a shooting took place at a shopping mall near his daycare center. In Japan, my son attends an international school because he's not yet fluent in Japanese. I knew people working two or three jobs, and they drove fast to get from place to place and fill their time with activities. We plan to stay in Japan until my kids finish high school, as I want them to have a stable community during their school-age years.

New York CNN —Some of YouTube’s biggest stars are taking on Lunchables with a competitor of their own. MrBeast, Logan Paul and KSI are teaming up on a “groundbreaking new better-for-you lunch option” called Lunchly, which combines all of their products into one meal that’s aimed at their young fan base. “Our end game has always been to not only provide high quality products, but also healthier alternatives,” Lunchly cofounder Logan Paul said in a press release. Lunchly’s launch comes when Lunchable, owned by Kraft Heinz, announced a major initiative last year to be a part of school lunch programs. Of course, KSI, Paul and MrBeast know how to launch brands, thanks in part to their fervent fan base.

A chance finding of bones in a cave is revealing clues of a much older tragic mystery. The once-in-a-lifetime find, nicknamed Thorin after a character in “The Hobbit,” has puzzled researchers for nearly a decade. The overall winner of the competition was photographer Ryan Imperio for his photo taken during the October 2023 annular solar eclipse. The phenomenon is visible for brief moments during an eclipse when sunlight shines through the moon’s valleys and craters, creating glowing drops of light.
