Last May, Viera bought a 5% stake in the Spurs for an undisclosed enterprise value. Partial team owners can get major discounts when they buy small pieces of teams that give them less control over decisions. Businessman Paul Viera is increasing his stake in the San Antonio Spurs from 5% to 11%, CNBC has learned, as NBA valuations climb and make teams more attractive assets for investors. NBA teams are hot assets thanks in large part to the league's new $76 billion, 11-year media deal.

Why Trump is polling better in Georgia than North CarolinaBy Steve KornackiThe latest round of New York Times/Siena College state polls is a continuation of what has become a pattern: Donald Trump seems to be faring slightly better in Georgia than in North Carolina. And Trump is up by 2 points in North Carolina, where he prevailed by 1.3 points four years ago. And yet — at least in polling — it’s Georgia, not North Carolina, where Trump seems better positioned. According to exit polling, Trump won the noncollege white vote in each state by roughly the same margin in 2020: 59 points in Georgia and 57 points in North Carolina. It’s a smaller lead among a slightly smaller share of the electorate than Harris has over those early voters.

KIRYAT BIALIK, Israel — Those who remain in the northern city of Kiryat Bialik are preparing for the worst-case scenario: a full-blown war between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group just across the country’s northern border with Lebanon. Surveying the damage in Kiryat Bialik on Monday, Ilan Itach was counting his blessings that his family and home for more than 30 years had survived the attack unharmed. “The entire family is all right, but they are very afraid,” he said, adding that they had left the city to join relatives in another part of northern Israel. Less than a week after NBC News detailed how the hospital system Atrium Health of North Carolina aggressively pursued former patients’ medical debts, placing liens on their homes to collect on hospital bills, the nonprofit company announced it would cancel those obligations and forgive the unpaid debts associated with them. Some 11,500 liens on people's homes in North Carolina and five other states will be released, Atrium’s parent company, Advocate Health, said with some dating back 20 years or more. The company declined NBC News’ request for an interview about the shift. When Belk could not afford to pay them, Atrium Health pursued him in court, the company confirmed. The Georgia state election board on Friday voted 3-2 to require counties to hand-count ballots cast on Election Day, a move that could drastically lengthen the amount of time to tally results in a critical battleground state. Number one is the actual counting of the number of ballots that you have at the precinct. Georgia's rule only requires election workers to count the number of ballots — not every votes on the ballot — but election officials are still worried about the impact. In August, the same Georgia board members passed other new rules that would allow county election board members to conduct “reasonable” inquiries before they certify results. Speaking of the trio of board members who voted for them at a rally last month, Trump said, “They’re on fire.

Today, makeup is part of everyday life, part of how we see ourselves and how others see us. As I grew up and my vision became more impaired, my relationship with makeup, and myself, started to crumble. Smoky eyes ‘til I dieI used to avoid eye makeup because precision was never my strong suit. Embrace your faceMy relationship with makeup has taught me many things, but the most important lesson is that it’s okay to embrace your face. Pfizer 's experimental drug for a common, life-threatening condition that causes cancer patients to lose their appetite and weight showed positive results in a midstage trial, the drugmaker said Saturday. Patients with the condition, called cancer cachexia, who took Pfizer's treatment saw improvements in body weight, muscle mass, quality of life and physical function, according to the drugmaker. The condition affects about 9 million people worldwide, and 80% of cancer patients suffering from it are expected to die within one year of diagnosis, according to the company. Cancer cachexia is currently defined as a loss of 5% or more body weight over the past six months in cancer patients, along with symptoms such as fatigue, according to the National Cancer Institute. Allerton said a work group of experts defines a weight gain of greater than 5% as a "clinically meaningful difference in cancer patients with cachexia."

Only 22% believe they receive valuable services from those taxes, according to an AP-NORC January 2024 survey. If the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire in 2025, about 62% of taxpayers would see their bills go up, according to the Tax Foundation. This means the 2024 election will determine which political party will get to shape Americans' taxes for years to come.

With the presidential election approaching, experts are sounding alarms about the upcoming expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, or TCJA. Without action from Congress, trillions in tax breaks enacted by former President Donald Trump via the TCJA will expire after 2025. "If the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire after 2025, about 62% of taxpayers would see their tax bills go up," said Erica York, senior economist and research director at the Tax Foundation. "That's because the TCJA provided tax cuts for the vast majority of taxpayers." Both Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, have called for tax changes that could affect millions of Americans.

In August, GOBankingRates looked at the population change from 2020 and 2022 and focused on cities with a 9% or greater change in the same years. The suburbs had to have a July 2024 home value below $500,000. The South reigned supreme, with six regions in the top 10—Mooresville, North Carolina took the No, 1 spot on the list. AdvertisementMissy Scalise has begun using AI to cut down on the amount of work she has to do after hours. In 2023, the World Economic Forum reported that employers expected 44% of workers' skills to be "disrupted" within five years. Another challenge with inserting AI into an organization is that it's often difficult to tell which skills workers possess and where they might need training. Charlotte Relyea, a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., believes that leaders need to plan now so they can better forecast the abilities workers will need. Leaders need to think about this as a transformation — what she described as "painting the picture of the future."

A New Zealand charity that works with low-income people says it unknowingly distributed candies containing potentially lethal levels of methamphetamine. The New Zealand Drug Foundation, which tested the candies that were still on the premises, said each one contained about 3g of methamphetamine, up to 300 times the level someone might usually take. The group said people who had started to consume the candies reported a bitter taste and feeling unusual.
