The ‘outside agitator’ narrative has a long history

In these instances, and others, authorities have not offered many specifics about who the “outside agitators” are, how significant their numbers are or how they differentiated outsiders from university-affiliated protesters. “It seems to me that the ‘outside agitator’ claim is one to shift the focus away from the grievances of the students and their protest.”The emphasis on “outside agitators,” Morris says, detracts from the central issue that is driving students to protest: Israel’s war in Gaza. ‘Outside agitator’ trope has a long historyYou don’t have to look far back in history to find examples of the “outside agitator” narrative. “We want to say as clearly as possible - we welcome ‘outside agitators’ to our struggle against the ruthless genocide of Palestinians.”Still, the use of the term is more complicated than it seems. As pro-Israel politicians have amplified concerns around antisemitism, some supporters of students’ right to free expression have suggested “outside agitators” are undermining otherwise peaceful protests.

The longest-enduring standardized college admissions test in the nation, the SAT has faced decades of controversy over bias and criticism for reducing aspiring college students to a test score. Discrepancies with standardized testing appear to be symptomatic of the inequality endemic to the education system. King Charles III shook hands and chatted with onlookers after attending an Easter service at Windsor Castle on Sunday in his most significant public outing since being diagnosed with cancer last month. "Keep going strong," one member of the crowd shouted as Charles and Queen Camilla walked by. The king has continued fulfilling his state duties, such as reviewing government papers and meeting with the prime minister. The service itself was smaller than usual as Kate, the Princess of Wales, is also being treated for cancer and has paused public duties. "He knows that being seen by the public and having public goodwill is really what's at the core of a successful monarchy,'' royal commentator Jennie Bond told the BBC.

Easter had initially been suggested by Kensington Palace as the period when she would resume duties following her operation. Clambering across the sloped roof of King’s College Chapel with the agility of an undergraduate, Toby Lucas, 56, pointed to where his craftsmen had welded solar panels to an expanse of newly installed lead. It was the scariest part of the project, he said, because an errant spark could have ignited the 500-year-old timbers underneath, which hold up the roof of this English Gothic masterpiece. “It’s an iconic landmark in Cambridge, and it’s part and parcel of where I live,” said Mr. Lucas, whose firm, Barnes Construction, did the restoration. “You don’t want to be the person who is responsible for burning part of it down.”The chapel came through the project unscorched and now stands at the heart of Cambridge University, no longer just a glorious relic of the late-medieval period but also a cutting-edge symbol of the green-energy future. Its 438 photovoltaic panels, along with solar panels on the roofs of two nearby buildings, will supply a shade over five percent of the college’s electricity.

London CNN —Britain’s King Charles III will lead members of the royal family at the Easter Sunday church service this weekend, marking his most significant appearance since his cancer diagnosis last month. Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, will be joined by several other Windsors for the Easter Mattins Service at St. George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this week. The event is a firm fixture in the royal calendar and is usually attended by many family members who are often seen walking to church together on Easter Sunday. As such, the number of family members gathering for the traditional service is expected to be smaller than normal to minimize the risks associated with larger crowds.

When Richard Serra’s Steel Curves Became a Memorial
  + stars: | 2024-03-28 | by ( Jason Farago | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
After the yelling, the hearings, the lawsuit, the dismantlement, Richard Serra entered the last decade of the last century with his mind cast toward the classics. The American sculptor, who died Tuesday at 85, got caught up in the Reagan-era culture wars with “Tilted Arc,” a 120-foot plate of curved Cor-Ten steel that sliced across Manhattan’s Federal Plaza. The work was finally removed — in Serra’s estimation, destroyed — in March 1989. “The central space is simply a regular ellipse, and the walls that surround it are vertical,” he would later recall. “I walked in and thought: what if I turn this form on itself?”

While some music critics praised Knowles' country tracks, other fans of the genre refrained from a warm welcome. Beyond just radio, Black artists and artists of color represented less than 4% of country songs played on the radio, airplay, charting songs, artists signed to major labels and award nominations, according to SongData. One such fan, Tenley Patterson, 26, said she didn't bother listening to country music before Beyoncé's releases, but was impressed with the country tracks. Rachel Whitney, head of editorial for the Nashville team, said playlists outside of the country genre are playing Knowles' country tracks, broadening its reach.
