The Americans now have gone 30 years without winning the Ryder Cup away from home, a losing streak the entire team knows all too well. “The obvious bullet points don't need to be mentioned, and that's one of them.”The context of this losing streak can be presented in so many ways. Phil Mickelson was there for all six losses during the losing streak. "It's like chalk and cheese the way a U.S. Ryder Cup golf course is set up compared with a European course. “Europe obviously has an amazing identity with the Ryder Cup,” Fleetwood said.

Six Emerging Brands to Know This Season

DiotimaThe designer Rachel Scott’s focus on tailoring and craft — in particular, crochet made in her native Jamaica — has been clear since she launched her brand, Diotima, in 2021. But it wasn’t until she held her first presentation, at a gallery in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood earlier this month, that fashion week attendees were able to observe the line’s detailing up close: Models traversed the room in intricate bead vests and floor-length gowns made from delicate, netlike cotton fabrics. Scott, 39, formerly a vice president of design at Rachel Comey, also collaborated with the Jamaican visual artist Laura Facey this season, drawing inspiration from the work in Facey’s 2022 solo exhibition at the Kingston arts venue Ormsby Hall. “It had a haunting energy,” Scott said in a statement, “one that prompted me to reflect, once again, upon the history and legacy of slavery in the Caribbean.” Facey’s chalk drawing “Seed” (2022) appeared as a textile print, and the artist made small versions of her heart-shaped wooden sculptures, which Scott hung like talismans from long cord necklaces and silver hoop earrings.

The American nuclear family is officially dead, according to a new analysis from the Pew Research Center — even if some Americans haven't accepted it. In 1970, nearly 70% of American adults ages 25 to 49 were living with a spouse and at least one child. "Family living arrangements are becoming more and more diverse in their composition," Carolina Aragão, one of the authors of the Pew report, told Insider. While married adults with kids are still the most common family arrangement, "they are far less common than they were in the past." One of the biggest sticking points was the use of concrete, which some residents found ugly and drab, Barbara Laber said. He may have been seeking to make time itself more concrete, more tangible, Schlecht said. In the late 20th century, Laber was not the only German artist exploring time’s reach across generations. Sept 11 (Reuters) - Portugal enjoyed their biggest-ever win as they thumped Luxembourg 9-0 at Estadio Algarve on Monday to preserve their perfect record in Euro 2024 qualifying. Substitute Joao Felix secured the record victory with a goal two minutes from time after Goncalo Inacio, Goncalo Ramos, and Diogo Jota all scored twice. Portugal's previous record was 8-0, which they achieved three times - twice against Liechtenstein (1994 and 1999) and once versus Kuwait (2003). Portugal have won all six of their Group J matches under Roberto Martinez, who took over in January, scoring 24 goals with none conceded. The result matched the biggest-ever loss for Luxembourg, who have 10 points and are third, three points behind Slovakia.

The Metropolitan Police said Friday they were searching Richmond Park in southwest London, near where the delivery van Daniel Khalife used to escape Wandsworth prison was spotted on Thursday. Khalife orchestrated a bold jail break from Wandsworth prison on Wednesday morning while dressed as a chef. Richmond Park, the largest of London’s Royal Parks, is designated National Nature Reserve and stretches for 2,500 acres. The Met Police said Friday it was looking into the possibility that someone inside Wandsworth prison helped Khalife escape. By then, Khalife was gone and all that remained of his escape was the strapping officers discovered under the van.

Verstappen goes for a record 10th win in a row

Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix from seventh on the starting grid last year with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on pole but finishing second. Red Bull have won every race so far this season, 14 in a row including the 2022 finale in Abu Dhabi, and are again favourites at Monza's fast layout. Since Lewis Hamilton's fifth Italian GP win with Mercedes in 2018 no driver has managed a repeat victory in the former royal park outside Milan. Talk of a 'Monza jinx' may be premature but this is a season where straws are being clutched more desperately. For Gasly, who lives in Milan, it is effectively a home race and one with a special place in his heart.

This summer of extremes has been a summer of mystery, debate and even some confusion for climate scientists, who’ve been watching the news with the rest of us and asking, What, exactly, is going on? Is it just baseline global warming, trending upward, that explains the extreme temperatures on land and over sea? The arrival of a planet-warming El Niño in the Pacific? And when considering off-the-charts sea-surface temperatures, what role is being played by recent regulations designed to significantly reduce the sulfur emissions of ships, since less pollution in the air means more heat making its way to the water below? And almost certainly, the sulfur effect has been larger locally, along particular shipping routes in the world’s oceans, where some especially striking anomalies have been observed.

Trump had to agree, for example, to make no threats on social media against co-defendants, witnesses and the 30 unindicted co-conspirators. The former president has excoriated special counsel Jack Smith, who indicted him twice, on social media and in speeches. Elliot Williams, a former federal prosecutor and CNN legal analyst, said that the terms were fair and did not infringe on Trump’s rights. Trump’s many late-night social media eruptions will make it hard for observers to believe that he will stick to the conditions to which he’s agreed. While live-in landlords are far from a novel concept, the pandemic-era fever around passive income and real-estate investing has sparked a rise in the popularity of house hacking. While Turner's initial strategy emphasized small multifamily buildings, some house hackers applied the concept to single-family homes. In 2019, he published a book called "The House Hacking Strategy: How to Use Your Home to Achieve Financial Freedom." A beaten finalist in 2019, the Netherlands will likely be feeling very confident of going one better this year after an impressive World Cup campaign so far. The Oranje is unbeaten in Australia and New Zealand and has conceded just one goal during the tournament, coming in the 1-1 group stage draw against the United States — also the only game it has failed to win. Spain has both dazzled and disappointed its fans this tournament, racking up high-scoring wins over Zambia, Costa Rica and then Switzerland in the last-16. However, the team’s low point came in a 4-0 demolition against Japan in the final group stage match, a game that laid bare La Roja's weaknesses. Krugman talked about AI's potential to displace white-collar jobs. He contended that there isn't much the government can do to mitigate the impact of AI on jobs. What he means is that the AI boom is likely to wipe out some white-collar jobs (over manual-labor jobs) evenly across the country — instead of devastating one particular region or social group. "I don't think there's much you can do about that aside from just trying to ban the technology altogether, which isn't going to work," Krugman said. Krugman said it's still hard to gauge the impact of technological innovation like AI because the way we "measure technology is godawful."

Canada gives Toronto millions to shelter asylum seekers

The federal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which has responsibility for refugees and asylum seekers, prides itself on its record of accepting those fleeing oppression even as it tries to tighten its border with the United States. But Toronto, Canada's largest city, says Ottawa has not provided anywhere near enough money to keep shelters open. At the end of 2022, Canada had more than 70,000 pending refugee claims. Almost 40,000 asylum seekers entered Canada through irregular border crossings from the United States last year -- nine times higher than in 2021 when COVID-19 related restrictions were enforced. In March, the United States and Canada changed a two-decade-old refugee agreement as part of an attempts to reduce the influx across the world's largest land border.
