CEO of Campbell Soup Mark Clouse told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday that despite his company's mixed earnings report, he is confident that Campbell's condensed products — especially the brand's staples like chicken noodle and tomato — are timelessly profitable. Clouse said Campbell's soup sales have been better than before the pandemic, especially among millennial clientele, many of whom are getting older and starting families. Even as more people start to dine outside the home post-Covid regulations, Clouse said demand for condensed canned soup remains strong. But he added that even Campbell's leadership had questioned the relevancy of condensed soup for younger consumers. Alongside its namesake soup products, Campbell also owns several well-known food and snack lines, including Pepperidge Farm, Snyder's of Hanover, Lance, V8 and Prego.

U.S. equity futures were little changed Sunday evening after a broad-based rally last week that pushed the S&P 500 to its best week since March, and its highest level since last August. S&P 500 futures were higher by 0.09% and Nasdaq-100 futures hovered below the flat line. On Friday, stocks rallied to end the week following strong jobs data for the month of May. The Dow jumped 701.19 points, or 2.12%, for its best day since January, ending the week at 33,762.76. "Recent banking sector developments are also encouraging, and repeated signs of labor market strength are reducing the risk negative outcomes.

It was a strong week for all three major stock indices, with the market bolstered Friday by strong jobs data and a deal in Washington to raise the U.S. debt ceiling. The S & P 500, the Nasdaq and the Dow Jones Industrial Average all finished the week roughly 2% higher. While Friday's rally broadened out beyond just the usual tech stocks, the Nasdaq ended Friday at its highest level since April 2022. "The underlying numbers in the report today show that the Fed can probably feel comfortable with maybe one more rate hike, and then pausing." Or, at least those concerns were true until Friday's explosive rally, when more than six New York Stock Exchange issues rose for every one that fell, and all 11 sectors in the S & P 500 gained. Friday's advance carried the S & P 500 to its highest since Aug. 18, 2022, when the benchmark closed at 4,283.74. Another favorable straw in the wind may simply be the fact that the 11.2% rally in the S & P 500, just since the mid-March lows accompanying the failure of Silicon Valley Bank, is so hated and mistrusted. Investors should be wary of bearish strategists who opt for a macro view and instead focus on individual companies, CNBC's Jim Cramer said Monday. In a market where idiosyncratic performers are plentiful, following one-size-fits-all macro advice can leave investors confused, Cramer says. Cramer pointed to outsize performers in myriad industries that would have been written off by those same bearish strategists. Investors might expect that industrial and homebuilding stocks would be suffering given the continued rate hikes, Cramer said. But industrial names like General Electric or Cummins have done extremely well, as have housing stalwarts like KB Home and Lennar , Cramer said.
Food and consumer goods stocks are poised to keep running, Jim Cramer said Friday, at least if no external news drags down the entire market. The resilience of snack and packaged-goods stocks will hold particularly true as debt-ceiling talks flounder, he added. Colgate-Palmolive also rallied following an earnings report that topped revenue expectations. Cramer also saw the same promise in General Mills , which hit a new 52-week high Friday, and Procter & Gamble , which beat earnings and revenue expectations last week. "Even as these consumer-packaged good stocks have run a great deal, I don't think it's too late," Cramer said.
Campbell’s Enticing Future in Snacks

Campbell Soup Company has long been more than its name suggests. Now its underappreciated snack business looks set to become its star performer. Campbell is composed of two divisions: meals and beverages, which includes its namesake soups as well as brands such as Pace salsas and V8 juices; and snacks, which features the Pepperidge Farm line of cookies and Goldfish crackers, among other brands.
Strong management can make all the difference for a company to "change their stripes" in a corporate pivot, CNBC's Jim Cramer said on Thursday. Cramer pointed to Costco as a prime example of the difference capable management can make. A bevy of other, non-retail companies are suffering as well, Cramer said, including medical-technology company Medtronic and industrial concern 3M . There's hope in the food companies, Cramer noted, pointing to stark evolutions from JM Smucker and Campbell Soup , both of which have rebalanced towards snack foods. But at a well-managed company like Costco, Cramer has no concerns.
