☆ Corning shares pop 12% as AI boom drives stronger-than-expected demand for equipment

Corning shares are up more than 12% Monday after the company raised its second-quarter guidance, setting it on track for its best trading day since March 2020. Corning expects second-quarter sales of $3.6 billion, up from previous guidance of $3.4 billion. Weeks said in a release that second-quarter earnings are also expected to mark a return to year-over-year growth. The company expects first-quarter sales, which declined 6% year over year, to be the lowest of the year. Corning said it will report second-quarter 2024 results on July 30, 2024.

Credo Technology has emerged to take the crown as TD Cowen's top small- and mid-cap stock pick after a red-hot start to the year. Analyst Matthew Ramsay also upped his price target for the stock to $35 from $24, implying that Credo shares could rally 28% from Monday's close. Specifically, he thinks that Credo's revenue could inflect in the second half of its fiscal year as a number of its programs begin to ramp, including some GenAI buildouts. Credo's key program ramps within its active electrical cables at Microsoft and Amazon should also play a role in pushing the company's fundamentals higher. "Overall, we see the diversification of the company's revenue base as a key de-risking of the model and should benefit the durability of revenues going forward," Ramsey said.

The plea deal allows Assange to avoid prison in the US and return to his native Australia. “That never came up in our conversations,” said David Stilwell, the State Department assistant secretary for the Pacific region during the Trump administration. Sessions’ focus on national security-related leaks was “probably one of the reasons why the [Assange] case had more traction,” Hickey told CNN. Hickey said he was not involved in the Assange case when he was a senior official at DOJ’s National Security Division from 2016 to 2023.
