Courts generally defer to the executive and legislative branches on national security matters, but the outcome may depend on whether the court frames the issue solely as a national security question or also considers First Amendment concerns. "There's a lot of good and there's a lot of bad with TikTok," Trump said. However, the app's popularity should not outweigh the national security concerns it poses, particularly given its ties to the Chinese government. Allowing donor-driven priorities to eclipse these legitimate security concerns undermines public trust in the policymaking process and erodes confidence in government institutions. Americans deserve a government that treats national security as a top priority and not one that is negotiable or secondary to the interests of private wealthy donors.

The 2024 holiday sales from social media — driven by TikTok Shop and influencer affiliates, among other factors — show how far social shopping has come in the past five years. Growth in pockets from real estate to manufacturing has improved since Beijing began announcing stimulus measures in late September. China's latest efforts to kickstart growth haven't had a broad impact yet, data and company earnings show, indicating the world's second-largest economy won't be roaring back soon. The ramp-up in stimulus measures is aimed at reaching this year's official target of around 5%, and a similar pace next year — while preventing financial instability, Gabriel Wildau, managing director at Teneo, said in a note Monday. "Looking ahead, our sources expect that stimulus in 2025 will trickle out incrementally and in a data-dependent fashion," Wildau said. "Beijing's stimulus measures encouraged firms to come off the sidelines this month," the report said.

Posts with affiliate links were six times as likely to lead to a sale as other social content was. Social-media influencers and other content makers that recommend products via affiliate links helped drive about 20% of US e-commerce revenue on Cyber Monday, according to new data from Adobe Analytics. Affiliate marketing has become an increasingly important tactic for driving e-commerce sales as more consumers, and young shoppers in particular, turn to bloggers and other digital creators to decide what to buy. Companies like Amazon, Walmart, and LTK have spent years building affiliate programs to compensate creators who drive sales. LTK said its creators drive billions in retail sales annually.

The result is that even the EPA’s alarming estimates of cancer risk vastly underestimate — by as much as fourfold — the chances of formaldehyde causing cancer. But four former government scientists with experience doing statistical analyses of health harms told ProPublica that the myeloid leukemia risk calculation was sound. The agency’s sprawling assessment shows that, among scores of individual air pollutants, formaldehyde poses the greatest cancer risk — by far. As the EPA admits, its cancer risk calculation fails to reflect the chances of developing myeloid leukemia. Nationwide, that’s the average lifetime cancer risk from air pollution; formaldehyde accounts for most of it.

The companies include Swaysure Technology Co., Si’En Qingdao and Shenzhen Pensun Technology Co., which work with China’s Huawei Technologies. Major Asian chip stocks outside of China rose Tuesday, shrugging off a new round of U.S. semiconductor export curbs aimed at impairing Beijing's capability to produce certain high-end chips. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company — the world's largest contract chip supplier — saw shares rise 2.4%. The Biden administration's latest chip curbs will also target sales of high-bandwidth memory chips, which could affect the world's two largest memory chip makers — South Korea's SK Hynix and Samsung. Naura Technology Group , Piotech and ACM Research were among the largest Chinese companies to be included in the export controls list. The latest export restrictions include a new "red flag guidance" to address compliance concerns, and several "critical regulatory changes" to enhance the effectiveness of existing controls.
