Humana CEO Bruce Broussard will step down next year after more than a decade leading the health-insurance giant. Humana has tapped Jim Rechtin, head of Envision Healthcare, to be its next CEO. Weaving together insurance benefits with care delivery is meant to make healthcare easier for people to navigate and improve patients' health, Broussard said. One example is Humana's recent push into behavioral healthcare, Broussard said. That startup will eventually become part of Humana, Broussard said.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says it plans to expel a U.S. soldier who crossed into the country in July. Other Americans have entered North Korea over the years, including a few U.S. soldiers. Five months later, North Korea announced it was expelling Lowrance who had entered the country illegally through China. While North Korea officially guarantees freedom of religion, analysts and defectors describe the country as strictly anti-religious. In 2009, American missionary Robert Park walked into North Korea with a Bible in his hand to draw attention to North Korea’s human rights abuses.

The truth is we are going to wreck the billionaire economy," said UAW President Shawn Fain. UAW vice president Chuck Browning, who is leading talks with Ford, told a rally of hundreds of UAW workers in downtown Detroit on Friday afternoon that recent talks have made "good progress, but we have far to go." Striking workers said "tier two" employees can make only half the hourly wages of senior UAW workers and get worse benefits. GM said on Thursday the UAW wage and benefits proposals would cost the automaker $100 billion, but did not elaborate. Biden's likely opponent, former president Donald Trump, on Friday criticized the shift to EVs as a job-killer for the UAW.

Mississippi hunters just broke the state record for the largest alligator ever caught. These hunting programs help control alligator populations and fund state wildlife agencies. This has drawn attention to the state's alligator hunting program, which may provide more benefits for the reptiles than you might think. Because of this system, state officials were able to track the 776 alligators that were harvested in Mississippi in 2021. It's best for both the alligators and humans to keep their populations separate, at least from a public relations standpoint, Watkins said.

“She rejects the classification of ‘feminist artist,’” the film scholar Gene Youngblood told The Santa Fe New Mexican in 1999, when some of Strand’s films were being shown at the College of Santa Fe. Chick Strand was born Mildred Totman on Dec. 3, 1931, in Berkeley, Calif., to Russel and Eleanor Totman. She first developed an interest in film while studying anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. In the 1960s, inspired by the growing free speech movement, Strand began hosting makeshift screenings in her backyard with her first husband, Paul Anderson Strand, an artist, and the experimental film impresario Bruce Baillie. As word spread, they quickly became carnivalesque productions, with Strand, Baillie and other regulars dressing in costumes and performing live while the films were shown to an increasingly large group of strangers.

Mars is rotating more quickly, NASA mission finds
  + stars: | 2023-08-14 | by ( Ashley Strickland | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +4 min
CNN —Mars is rotating more quickly than it used to, according to data that NASA’s InSight lander collected on the red planet. Initially, the InSight mission, the first to study the interior of Mars, was supposed to last about two years after it landed in November 2018. The InSight mission continued to collect data about Mars until the very end, falling silent in December 2022 after dust blocked its solar panels from receiving sunlight. Researchers then used RISE to measure the wobble of Mars as the core sloshes around inside it. This new figure was compared with previous estimates of the core’s radius that were collected by tracking seismic waves as they traveled through Mars’ interior.

Measurements from NASAs' InSight Mars Lander have uncovered a new Martian mystery. The red planet seems to be spinning faster, making its days a little shorter every year. The discovery, made using measurements from NASA's Insight lander, has left scientists baffled. While researchers aren't exactly sure what could be causing this landmass shift, a leading theory suggests it could be down to Martian ice. NASA/JPL-CaltechThe latest findings about Mars are the result of years of data gathered from NASA's Insight Lander over 900 Martian days.
