The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a blockbuster trade sending All-NBA forward Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns, completing the near-overnight teardown of the failed superteam that it built hoping to dominate the NBA for years. The deal, coming just days after Brooklyn traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, shakes up the league hours ahead of Thursday afternoon’s trade deadline. The Suns are sending Brooklyn a trio of forwards in return—Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and dynamic defender Mikal Bridges—in addition to four first-round picks and a pick swap in 2028. The Suns also receive forward T.J. Warren. The trade was first reported by ESPN and The Athletic.

The Suns add Durant to an underachieving squad that sits at 30-26, tied for fourth place in the Western Conference. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday. In 39 games this season, Durant is averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He averaged 9.5 points and 2.8 rebounds for Brooklyn, well below his career norms of 15.1 points and four rebounds. As he heads to the eighth team in his NBA career, he has averages of 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Feb 9 (Reuters) - The Brooklyn Nets have traded All-Star forward Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns in a swap deal that includes four other players and future first-round picks, American media reported on Thursday. While Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, Irving moved to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week, bringing the curtains down on Brooklyn's 'Big Three' experiment. Durant, 34, won back-to-back championships with the Golden State Warriors where he was also named NBA Finals MVP in both title-winning seasons. Both the Nets and the Suns are fifth in their respective conferences. ET on ThursdayReporting by Rohith Nair in Bengaluru; editing by Pritha SarkarOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

He added 11 assists and 10 rebounds. LaMelo Ball collected 16 points and six rebounds and Gordon Hayward added 15 points for the Hornets, who have lost five in a row. Fox (31 points, 11 assists) scored the final seven points for the Kings, who trailed 128-123 with 1:17 left. Martin added 15 points -- all in the first half -- and Jae'Sean Tate added 16 for the Rockets, who committed 13 of their 19 turnovers in the second half. Bojan Bogdanovic, Detroit's most prominent trade chip ahead of Thursday's deadline, led the Pistons with 15 points.
After four seasons in which Kyrie Irving was often absent, occasionally brilliant, and always mercurial, the Brooklyn Nets have traded the embattled All-Star guard to the Dallas Mavericks, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed. The deal comes days before Thursday’s trade deadline and days after Irving reportedly requested a trade away from Brooklyn. The Nets, who are also trading forward Markieff Morris, will receive no All-Star in return; Dallas is sending back forward Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Spencer Dinwiddie, along with one first-round draft pick and multiple second-rounders. The trade was first reported by the Athletic and ESPN.
Brooklyn's Kyrie Irving is going to the Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets agreed Sunday on a blockbuster trade: Irving — the super-talented and often-enigmatic eight-time All-Star point guard — heads to Dallas, ending the pairing with Kevin Durant that never really had a chance to click. It was not immediately clear when Irving would make his debut with Dallas. And I think for Dallas, they got a big-time star to go with the one they've got." The trade does again pair Irving with Dallas general manager Nico Harrison, who was a Nike executive before taking over the Mavericks in 2021. After the Nets lost to Dallas at home in overtime in October, Irving said he saw traits of the Mavericks being "a great team."
Feb 5 (Reuters) - The Brooklyn Nets have traded All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, whose tenure with the club included dozens of missed games due in part to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine, to the Dallas Mavericks, according to reports on Sunday. Prior to his apology, the Nets suspended Irving for at least five games, saying that despite holding two news conferences, he had refused to disavow anti-Semitism. That followed a 2021-22 season during which Irving played only 29 of the Nets' 82 regular season games as he refused to comply with New York City's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Irving was selected with the first overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he spent six seasons before being traded to the Boston Celtics. The Brooklyn Nets Have Gotten Boring—and Brilliant

Just before Christmas, the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant was asked about his team’s absence from the NBA’s holiday slate of games. Under normal circumstances, a club with two A-list stars and title aspirations would be a no-brainer inclusion. Durant acknowledged that the abnormality of the Nets’ last few months, and specifically his offseason trade request, likely had something to do with it. “I probably [am] responsible for us not playing on Christmas, with what went on this summer,” Durant said with a grin. We play on the 26th, that’s close enough.”

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is expected to get the next Nike signature shoe. "When his signature shoe starts selling, it has the potential to be what Kyrie's was the first three years." Still, Burns noted Nike basketball is on the upswing, and Morant has a strong reputation. The shoe is nearly sold out on Nike's website, suggesting strong demand for performance basketball shoes and room in the market for a new signature shoe. "Nike basketball has rebounded," Burns said, citing the popularity of the GT Cut.
Nike has officially cut ties with Kyrie Irving, the company said Monday. A Nike spokesperson didn’t immediately make any additional comment about the decision. Representatives for Irving didn’t immediately comment. The decision to sever ties with Irving comes just a month after Nike suspended its agreement with the longtime guard and announced it wouldn’t be releasing the latest version of his sneakers, the Kyrie 8. Nike founder Phil Knight told CNBC in an interview last month that he believed Irving stepped over the line.
Nike Severs Ties to Brooklyn Nets Player Kyrie Irving

Nike Inc. said Monday that Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete, ending a more than decadelong relationship with the basketball star that resulted in the creation of a sneaker line that was popular with professional athletes and consumers. The brief statement from the sneaker giant comes after it suspended its endorsement of Mr. Irving in early November and the release of the Kyrie 8, a sneaker model that had been expected to make its debut later that month. Nike decided to take action against Mr. Irving after he promoted a movie containing false conspiracies about Jews and was slow to disavow holding anti-Semitic beliefs. The Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association also suspended Mr. Irving at the time.

NBA legend LeBron James has called out reporters for what he described as a double standard in the way they cover Black athletes. “I was wondering why I haven’t gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo,” James said to the room of reporters. He also questioned why the Jones photo didn’t receive the same attention and scrutiny from reporters that Irving’s actions did. “It seems like to me the whole Jerry Jones situation, photo — and I know it was years ago and we all make mistakes, I get it. But it seems like it’s just been buried under like ‘Oh, it happened,’ OK. We just move on.
CNN —The issue of race and its historical legacy in the US was at the forefront of NBA star LeBron James’ mind on Wednesday as he asked reporters why he hadn’t received any questions about a photo of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attending a racial desegregation protest in 1957. “I got one question for you guys before you guys leave,” said James, speaking after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 128-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. “I was thinking when I was on my way over here, I was wondering why I haven’t gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo. NBA star LeBron James has contrasted the media's interest in the 1957 photo with its coverage of Kyrie Irving and his recent suspension. “It seems like to me that whole Jerry Jones situation photo – and I know it was years and years ago and we all mistakes, I get it,” the 37-year-old James continued.
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving recently tweeted a link to an antisemitic film, which led to his suspension. The film is available on Amazon, but CEO Andy Jassy seemed to imply the company wouldn't pull it. "We have hundreds of millions of customers with lots of different viewpoints," he said. But it doesn't seem like Amazon will budge on removing the film and book from its platform. "We have hundreds of millions of customers with lots of different viewpoints.

NEW YORK (AP) — Kyrie Irving returned to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday and apologized to anyone who felt threatened or hurt when he posted a link to a documentary with antisemitic material. Irving was suspended by the team on Nov. 3, hours after he refused to say he had no antisemitic beliefs when meeting with reporters at the Nets’ practice facility. Back at the building for the team’s morning shootaround, Irving said he should have handled that interview differently. “I don’t stand for anything close to hate speech or antisemitism or anything that is going against the human race,” Irving said. But the Nets praised Irving on Sunday for the steps he has since taken.

Nets Irving apologizes 'deeply,' says he is not anti-Semitic
  + stars: | 2022-11-20 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
NEW YORK, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving said on Saturday that he was "deeply" apologetic after his team suspended him earlier this month for sharing anti-Semitic content on social media and not disavowing anti-Semitism. He told local sports network SNY on Saturday that he was not anti-Semitic and wanted to "set a greater example." Irving faced heavy criticism after posting a link on Twitter last month to an anti-Semitic 2018 documentary and defending it. He later said it contained "false anti-Semitic statements" and apologized "for posting the documentary without context." Nike Inc (NKE.N) suspended its relationship with Irving in the aftermath and canceled the release of its next Irving-branded shoe.
