It was meant to be another night of violence at the hands of the far right. “It shows that when everyone comes out to support, their numbers dwindle.”Large crowds gathered at an anti-racism protest in Walthamstow on Wednesday, where far-right violence had been expected. The fury simmering in a subset of White Britain remains a live danger; these riots were shocking, but not entirely surprising. “I normally walk through this city center all the time,” Nadeem Akhtar, 18, told CNN in the northern English city of Sheffield, where angry riots took place. Tommy Robinson, the figurehead of Britain’s far right, was reinstated to X (then Twitter) days after Elon Musk bought the platform.

Shareholders in Hargreaves Lansdown — the U.K.'s biggest stockbroker — will get 1,110 British pence per share and a dividend of 30 pence per share under the deal, the company said. The news comes after the company in May rejected an offer from the consortium of £4.7 billion, or 985 pence per share. The first round of Medicare drug price negotiations has come to an end – but we still don't know the final prices that the U.S. government and pharmaceutical companies have agreed on. They all maintain that Medicare drug price negotiations are a long-term threat to the pharmaceutical industry's drug innovation and profits, but the immediate dust has somewhat settled. That's based on executive commentary during the recent quarterly earnings calls of Bristol Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson , among other companies. Novartis CEO Vasant Narasimhan said on July 18 that the short-term impact from Medicare drug price negotiations "might be manageable on our first set of drugs." Executives at each of the drugmakers similarly emphasized their opposition to Medicare drug price negotiations on their respective earnings calls.

UK's Starmer to hold emergency meeting as riots intensify

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold an emergency meeting with police chiefs on Monday after days of violent anti-immigration protests intensified, with buildings and vehicles torched and hotels holding asylum seekers targeted. Riots have erupted across towns and cities in the last week after three girls were killed in a knife attack in Southport in northwest England, with 420 people arrested so far. Police have said the suspect was born in Britain and are not treating it as a terrorist incident. Interior minister Yvette Cooper said rioters had felt "emboldened by this moment to stir up racial hatred", with bricks thrown at police officers, shops looted and mosques and Asian-owned businesses attacked. In Rotherham, northern England, protesters sought to break into a hotel that housed asylum seekers.

One police officer in the city was hit on the head with a chair and another kicked and knocked off his motorcycle. The police force responsible for the region has confirmed that two officers were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police officers face off with protesters during a far-right demonstration in Bristol, England. The latest demonstrations puncture any idea that Starmer’s center-left government has evaded an ascendant hard-right movement that continues to rise on the continent. Behind his majority, there remains an angry and active far-right undercurrent that continues to make itself heard.

A line of EVs wait to charge at Electrify America chargers in East Brunswick, New Jersey, on July 6. At 10 of the busiest EV fast charging stations in California, Electrify America has enacted a strict limit. There can also be other legitimate reasons a driver may want to charge to 100% at a fast charger, said Barrosa. Cases like these are why Electrify America probably won’t institute an overall charging cap at charging stations near major highways, he said.
