Efficiency is a hallmark of any good business, but Tom Loverro, an investor at 44-year-old Bay Area venture capital firm IVP, thinks startup founders should step off the brake pedal. The venture capitalist who rightly predicted a "mass extinction event for startups" over a year ago now says the worst is behind us. "We're on the cusp of a Great Reawakening for startups," Loverro wrote in a LinkedIn post. Given that the cloud software market is stabilizing and venture funding is available again to the best-in-breed startups, Loverro is telling startups with sound unit economics to increase their cash burn to speed up progress.

CNN —Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un were seen laughing as they took turns to drive each other around in a Russian-built limousine during Putin’s first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years. On Wednesday, Putin presented Kim with an Aurus car as the pair exchanged gifts, according to Russian state media – the second time the Kremlin leader has given his counterpart this car model. According to Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov, the Russian leader also presented Kim with a tea set. The two autocrats appeared to enjoy each other’s company as they took a jaunt in the Aurus luxury car. Putin gave Kim an Aurus when the two leaders exchanged gifts, according to Russian state media – the second time Putin has given his counterpart this car model.

In the South, The Lipstick Lounge, Tennessee’s only bar registered with the Lesbian Bar Project, is in Nashville’s hip East End neighborhood. By the end of Burton’s trip, she found that the narrative of “dying lesbian bars” was maybe not totally accurate. “Sometimes it’s a physical shift from a lesbian bar to a bar that sometimes holds … queer or lesbian nights,” Burton said. Though the two are married, they don't classify their bar as a lesbian bar.

Analyst Brian Essex upgraded Zscaler to overweight from neutral and raised his price target to $230 per share from $205. The bank upgraded the software stock to overweight from neutral on Friday, and raised its price target to $580 per share from $570. Champine reiterated a buy rating on the wholesaler and raised its price target to $940 per share from $890. The analyst upgraded shares of BofA to outperform from market perform and raised his price target to $46 per share from $37. He has an overweight rating and a price target of $52, implying upside of 20% over the next 12 months.

Varonis Systems is poised to make a comeback in the latter part of 2024 as data security demand picks up, according to JPMorgan. Analyst Brian Essex upgraded the stock to overweight from neutral and set a December 2025 price target of $54, up from $50. Shares have dropped 6.7% this year as data security stocks saw a broader decline, creating a compelling buying opportunity for investors heading into the second half of the year, the analyst wrote in a Friday note. According to Essex, data security demand is rising as ransomware attacks are expected to increase, with a breach likely to happen every two seconds in 2031. "Although elevated levels of demand are driving growing levels of competition across the data security space, we view Varonis as one of the best positioned to capitalize on data security demand with a Best of Breed Data Security platform," the analyst added.
