John Halpin Courtesy John HalpinProgressive activists have decided to use this interlude to attack Biden for his centrist positions on immigration, energy policy and the Israel-Hamas war, in particular. Like the senators from his birth state, Biden should ignore these threats from the left and stand up strongly for his vital center perspective. Looking at Michigan specifically, the threat of Arab Americans tanking Biden must also be put in wider perspective. Even with these larger trends in the state, the authors find: “In Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Hamtramck, and Livonia — the Michigan cities with the highest proportion of Arab American voters — Biden defeated Trump by a combined 38,000 or so votes. Democratic support for more moderate proposals backed by Biden is even higher: Three-quarters of Democrats support a plan to increase the number of immigration judges to speed up action on asylum claims.

But she acknowledged that for other older adults, going to the mingle and introducing themselves to strangers might not be so easy. "I think loneliness is sometimes based in fear," Backlund said. Backlund knows the urgency of addressing loneliness and hopes that more people start taking the matter into their own hands. BI has previously spoken to other older adults who found solutions of their own to prevent becoming lonely. Chris Murphy and Bob Casey in December introduced the Addressing Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults Act, which would provide funding for organizations to address loneliness among older Americans.

The phenomenon called shrinkflation — where consumer products become smaller in quantity, size or weight while their prices stay the same or increase — is a "rip off," Biden said. "Some companies are trying to pull a fast one by shrinking the products little by little and hoping you won't notice," said Biden, who called for the companies to put a stop to the practice. These tactics tend to become more prevalent during times of high inflation, Dworsky said. "This corporate greed is one of the reasons that Americans are frustrated by expensive grocery bills," Casey said in a December statement. "I'm hoping with inflation subsiding a little bit that we'll see fewer examples, but it's never going to go away," Dworsky said.

Read previewEd, 63, was recently rewatching a documentary about Blue Zones — and it led him to rethink his outlook on retirement. But he's making plans for when that day comes to avoid what he said is his "biggest fear": being lonely. Of course, for some older adults, it's not always that easy. Chris Murphy and Bob Casey introduced a bill in December — called Addressing Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults Act — to establish grants and training for community-based organizations to help address loneliness in older adults. As federal efforts progress, Ed wants to ensure loneliness among older people is a concern that all age groups work to address.

New York CNN —Joe Biden doesn’t want corporate greed to eat into your Super Bowl snack spread. “The American public is tired of being played for suckers,” said Biden in the video. He called on companies “to put a stop to this,” but did not mention any actionable steps his administration would be taking. Biden also didn’t address the companies by name, although the video panned over snacks like Doritos, Wheat Thins and Gatorade, which were mentioned in Casey’s report. That has prompted President Joe Biden to repeatedly ask his advisers: Why then are so many Americans still not feeling great about the economy? While inflation has eased in recent months, prices on most goods are still higher than they were in the spring of 2021. Still, Biden’s economic advisers are increasingly telling the president in private that they feel optimistic about the direction things are headed. Historic-high prices that plagued the first few years of the Biden administration continue to moderate, all while economic growth is outpacing expectations. If those trend lines continue, they have cautiously told Biden, consumer sentiment, too, should begin to course-correct.

Sen. Bob Casey wants to set up automatic savings accounts for every baby in the US. AdvertisementSen. Bob Casey wants to chip away at wealth inequality and set up kids to be able to build wealth. Casey, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, is introducing legislation that would create Child Savings Accounts nationwide. Those accounts spurred parents to open additional savings accounts for their children, and, by 2019, the average account balance was $3,243. Multiple studies on "baby bond" policies, automatic accounts with money deposited into them, find that they can help narrow racial wealth gaps.

America’s weak.”Neither Casey nor McCormick are likely to face serious opposition in Pennsylvania's April 23 primary before facing off against each other in November's general election. The Biden administration's support for Israel has been complicated politically in other states the president is counting on in his reelection bid. “Israel needs America's firm and unequivocal support,” McCormick wrote. Jewish voters typically vote overwhelmingly Democratic, and Democrats right now are trying to balance their interest in protecting Israel with that of younger voters, who have been sympathetic to Palestinians, he said. “Jewish voters have been one of their most loyal supporter groups.

EMMAUS, Pennsylvania (AP) — President Joe Biden on Friday tried his hand at retail politics — stopping in a trio of Pennsylvania stores to stress the value of small businesses and talk up his economic record. Biden gladhanded and joshed at a running shoe store, bicycle shop and coffee house in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. “If you notice, they're feeling much better about how the economy is doing,” Biden said in response to a reporter's question. “It was cool for him to be able to see the small businesses that power our economy and the folks behind that,” Shapiro said. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A small western Pennsylvania water authority was just one of multiple organizations breached in the United States by Iran-affiliated hackers who targeted a specific industrial control device because it is Israeli-made, U.S. and Israeli authorities say. The group targeted the Unitronics devices at least since Nov. 22, it said. The advisory notes that Unitronics devices ship with a default password, a practice experts discourage as it makes them more vulnerable to hacking. It says the hackers likely accessed affected devices by “exploiting cybersecurity weaknesses, including poor password security and exposure to the internet.”Experts say many water utilities have paid insufficient attention to cybersecurity. Americans must know their drinking water and other basic infrastructure is safe from “nation-state adversaries and terrorist organizations,” U.S. Sens.

The Aliquippa water authority's chairman, Matthew Mottes, said federal officials told him that hackers also breached four other utilities and an aquarium. The device breached in Pennsylvania was made by Israel-based Unitronics, according to the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Known as a programmable logic controller, it is used across a wide spectrum of industries including water and sewage-treatment utilities, electric companies and oil and gas producers. Experts say many water utilities have paid insufficient attention to cybersecurity. In Pennsylvania, the hack prompted the water authority to temporarily halt pumping Saturday in a remote station that regulates water pressure for customers in two nearby towns.

Republican former President Donald Trump beat Democratic President Joe Biden here by 39 points in 2020. OHIOLiberal Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is seeking a fourth six-year term in a state, like West Virginia, that increasingly is Republican. There are at least four Republicans seeking their party's nomination, including State Senator Matt Dolan. Trump won the state by 16 points in 2020 and Tester is the only Democrat in the state's congressional delegation. Biden captured Michigan by just three points over Trump and the open Senate seat has attracted several aspirants from Democratic and Republican benches.

The bill, set to be introduced by Democratic Senator Bob Casey and Republican Senator Rick Scott, is the latest effort to track U.S. investments in China. U.S. private investment firms have poured more than $80 billion into China between 2018 and 2022, some via pension plans, according to Casey's office. THE TAKERepublicans and Democrats pushing Treasury could benefit Jack Cooper, one the largest U.S. privately owned auto transport companies, making its long-shot bid to rescue Yellow from bankruptcy liquidation more likely. Making Yellow’s "loan repayment terms more flexible, is a commonsense step to keep Yellow’s trucks on the road, and keep its workforce gainfully employed," he wrote. Yellow's assets include 12,000 trucks and 35,000 trailers, along with hundreds of terminals, according to its bankruptcy court filing. Yellow said in its bankruptcy filing it had $2.15 billion in assets and $2.59 billion in debt. No Republican senator has publicly called for Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez to resign. But the GOP's Senate campaign arm has been using the scandal to hit vulnerable Democrats. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was still the only senator who had called for Menendez to resign, the committee pointed out the silence of most Democrats. "That's for Democrats to decide," replied Sen. Steve Daines of Montana, the NRSC chairman, when asked by Insider on Thursday if he believed Menendez should resign.
