Adani Group companies shed as much as $19 billion in market value on Monday after Hindenburg Research accused the Indian market regulator probing the group of having links to offshore funds also used by Adani. Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports were among the biggest losers on India’s blue-chip Nifty 50 index. Total losses in Adani companies narrowed to $9 billion after the early plunge. It caused one of the most stunning upheavals in India’s corporate history in January 2023 when it alleged improper use of tax havens and stock manipulation by the Adani Group. “We do not think SEBI can be trusted as an objective arbiter in the Adani matter,” Hindenburg said on Saturday.

Shares of Adani Group fell on Monday, after a new report from U.S. short seller Hindenburg accused the chair of India's capital markets regulator of having conflicts of interest that prevented an in-depth probe of fraud allegations. Shares of Adani Total Gas, Adani Power, Adani Wilmar and Adani Energy Solutions also fell sharply on the news. In May, six Adani Group companies disclosed they had received notices from SEBI alleging violation of Indian stock market rules. Alongside the inquiry into the Adani group, SEBI sent a "show cause" notice to Hindenburg Research alleging that the short-seller violated the country's rules by setting up a short-bet using non-public information. Hindenburg Research said these allegations were "nonsense" in a note published on its website in July, which also made public the regulator's notice. In its latest report, Hindenburg attempts to draw a link between offshore funds that traded in Adani Group shares and personal investments of Buch and her husband. It says that Bermuda-based Global Opportunities Fund, which according to a Financial Times investigation was used by entities connected to the Adani group to trade in share of group companies, had sub-funds.

A dozen school districts in Oklahoma said they will not check students’ immigration status if asked by the state’s education department, in the latest sign of growing resistance to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters. “The focus has changed from public school students to self-centered political aspirations,” said Susan Wray, an elementary school principal in Edmond and a former state education department official. School districts also cannot ask students about their immigration status if it may be used to deny them access to a free public education, according to U.S. Department of Education guidance. The activist investor has shared the presentation's findings with Autodesk's board in recent weeks, after disclosing a $500 million stake in the company earlier this year. Wheeler alleged America PAC has broken state laws, according to a copy of the complaint reviewed by CNBC. A few years ago, the organizers of one of the largest U.S. exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s disease realized they had a problem: Most of the students were white. But people who run Parkinson’s exercise programs in a handful of U.S. cities describe great difficulty in recruiting Black people. Johnson said his Chicago-area initiative offered a free six-month exercise program for Parkinson’s patients and increased marketing in the Black community but got little traction. When a white person shows up at the doctor’s office with such symptoms, a doctor would likely recognize them as signs of Parkinson’s, said Bernard Coley, an advocate for people with Parkinson’s disease, especially those in underengaged communities. After his less-than-successful efforts to recruit Black Parkinson’s patients into his exercise program in Chicago, Johnson concluded that the fact that he’s not Black is an “important factor.”Leventhal, who runs the Parkinson’s exercise program in New York, has come to the same conclusion.

Consumers who try to buy popular weight loss drugs online without a prescription risk being scammed or receiving unsafe products, a new study shows. Shortages of the popular weight loss medication, which belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1s, have led to “a black market of illegal knockoffs,” said Dr. Christopher McGowan, the founder, medical director and research director of True You Weight Loss, a weight loss clinic in Cary, North Carolina. Medicare doesn’t cover the drugs when prescribed for weight loss, and many state Medicaid plans heavily restrict coverage. Online scamsSome websites purporting to be online pharmacies take consumers’ money but never deliver the medications, according to the study. Consumers won’t get that sort of care if they buy drugs online without seeing a health care provider.

Joe Algrant stepped down on Thursday as the head of school at Ethical Culture Fieldston School after a two-year tenure, “to pursue other personal and professional goals and opportunities,” according to an email sent to the school community by the Fieldston board of trustees.
