CNN —An out-of-control blaze burning in northern Washington state exploded in size, crossed the Canadian border and set off a cascade of evacuations over the weekend. Evacuations were ordered on Saturday for more than 700 properties in the Canadian town of Osoyoos, British Columbia, after the fire crossed the border. The fire remains completely uncontained in both countries, according to Washington and Canadian fire officials. The United States’ fire season has been pacing below average in terms of acres burned so far this year. The US wildfire season may pick up pace as August arrives.

July 27 (Reuters) - Randy Meisner, a co-founder of the Eagles who sang lead on the 1975 hit "Take It to the Limit," died on Wednesday of complications from lung disease, the band said on its website on Thursday. "The whole thing started to end when we started taking separate limos," Meisner told Rolling Stone magazine. "I liked to be out of the spotlight," Meisner said, according to Rolling Stone. Years later, Meisner said he asked to sit in with the band for a show in Los Angeles but was denied, he told Rolling Stone in 2008. Before the Eagles, he placed bass for Poco, and was also bassist and vocalist with Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band.

CNN —A Minnesota woman was severely injured by a bison in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, North Dakota, according to the National Park Service. A bison gored a 47-year-old Arizona woman Monday morning in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. In the wake of the two incidents involving national park guests within days of each other, the National Park Service has issued a warning that bison can be easily agitated during mating season. Use extra caution and give them additional space during this time,” the park service said. “Approaching bison threatens them, and they may respond by bluff charging, head bobbing, pawing, bellowing, or snorting,” according to the park service.

CNN —A 21-year-old tree planter is recovering after a bear attack in northern British Columbia on Thursday, according to the province’s Conservation Officer Service. The woman was “seriously injured” and remains hospitalized in stable condition, the service said in a social media post. “At this time, Conservation Officers do not have conclusive physical evidence but believe the attack involved a grizzly bear,” the post states. The woman was planting trees around 3 p.m. local time when she was confronted by a bear, according to the service. “The bear first bluff-charged and the victim retreated to a nearby roadway, where the bear attacked,” the post states.

The deal would provide holders of AMC common stock with shares worth an estimated $129 million to resolve allegations the company rigged a shareholder vote against them. The indebted utility, which lost its chief executive on Tuesday, may be placed into a special administration regime, with ministers worrying about the company's ability to shoulder 14 billion pounds of debt. UK water companies, privatised by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s, were supposed to be sleepy investments churning out inflation-proof dividends. Thames, owned by Macquarie (MQG.AX) until 2017, had debt equivalent to 80% of its 17.9 billion pounds regulator-defined asset value last September.
