New York CNN —Lufthansa, Germany’s biggest airline, has been fined a record $4 million for discriminating against Jewish passengers, the US Department of Transportation announced Tuesday. The fine stems from a May 2022 incident in which the airline prohibited 128 Jewish passengers from boarding. The crew said that some passengers obstructed flight attendants in economy class from its on-board food and beverage service, “inconvenienced other passengers” and argued with the crew about wearing masks. The DOT said that Tuesday’s penalty is its largest ever issued by the federal agency for civil rights violations. “No one should face discrimination when they travel, and today’s action sends a clear message to the airline industry that we are prepared to investigate and take action whenever passengers’ civil rights are violated,” said US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in the release.

In a McKinsey survey in February, groceries represented the top category that Gen Z and millennial respondents said they planned to splurge on, outpacing restaurants, travel, and fitness; in 2017, Gen Xers were the top spenders on groceries, followed by boomers. In June, Bank of America reported that its Gen Z customers spent more at premium grocery stores than any other generation. The trend picked up steam with Gen Z. Millennials and Gen Zers are driving demand for vegetarian and vegan food. In a recent YouGov survey for Whole Foods, 70% of Gen Z respondents indicated they were willing to pay more for high-quality foods. Actor Simu Liu blasted a pair of Quebec entrepreneurs last week who went on Canada’s version of “Shark Tank” to pitch a drink they say has “transformed” boba tea. Sébastien Fiset and Jess Frenette, founders of a bottled popping boba and alcoholic bubble tea brand called Bobba, were seeking $1 million in exchange for 18% of the company. Their products include cans of alcoholic bubble tea, as well as grab-and-go packets of popping boba. “Dragons, you have probably heard about bubble tea,” Frenette said before Liu quickly interjected with a sarcastic: “I’ve never, has anyone else heard of bubble tea? Not everything has to be traditional.”Fiset responded by saying Bobba’s popping boba makes the drink “not an ethnical product anymore.” Minhas agreed that the popping boba was new, saying she’d never experienced it.

Younger generations spend more on groceries than other categories, a McKinsey report says. The firm asked over 4,000 people, from baby boomers to Gen Zers, about the categories they intend to splurge on this year. Groceries ranked highest for millennials and Gen Zers, outpacing restaurants, bars, travel, beauty and personal care, apparel, and fitness. It's a notable shift from 2018 when older generations like baby boomers and Gen Xers still spent more on groceries than millennials. It surveyed baby boomers to Gen Zers, not baby boomers to Gen Xers.

Enter, the American Bar. But, like the patrons of the American Bar before us, seeking out home comforts when abroad is still something we all do. The study was based on interviews with 330 people in the US, all questioned on how likely they’d be to try local foods when traveling. It has offered adherents myriad “exclusive” opportunities to join clubs to give counsel to Mr. Trump, and it has repeatedly claimed that Mr. Trump is personally reviewing lists of small donors. The New York Times looked at some 7,400 emails sent by the Trump campaign since Mr. Trump entered the presidential race. Ms. Harris, and before her Mr. Biden, have far outpaced Mr. Trump in fund-raising this cycle, including from small-dollar donors. But both in sheer number (about 75 emails per week, on average, throughout this campaign cycle) and in syntax, the former president’s campaign emails stand out. Similar questions have arisen about contests Mr. Trump’s campaign and political action committee have run in years past.

A business class ticket can cost up to five times more than an economy ticket on Singapore Airlines — and a whopping 13 times more for a first-class one. Aaron Wong, who flies first and business class when he travels, says: "You don't need to be rich to enjoy such things." However, it's not as simple as just picking up any mile-earning credit card and spending a bunch of money, he said. Crown Holdings (CCK) , which reports earnings next week, may have the set-up we're looking for. Demand for sustainable and recyclable packaging drives growth in the beverage can market, a significant segment for Crown Holdings. Don't drink so much that you can't properly drive a golf cart or respect staff members. AdvertisementNot long ago, I started working as a "cart girl" at my local golf course. This was my second summer working at the course, and golf balls had never come close to hitting me before. Unfortunately, I regularly dealt with golfers making uncomfortable comments about my body or trying to touch me. Also, if you're too drunk to treat employees with respect, you're also probably too inebriated to check your surroundings and safely drive your golf cart.

New York CNN —“Mtn Dew” is getting a makeover, with the word “mountain” reappearing on cans and bottles following a roughly two-decade-long hiatus. “Mountain Dew appears ready to shake off the adrenaline rush that has defined the brand’s marketing for almost two decades, when a key strategy was to market Dew like an energy drink to an energy drink crowd,” Duane Stanford, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, told CNN. A major change in marketing is essential for Mountain Dew. The new look for Mountain Dew is more about an “evolution and nurturing that we wanted to give to this beloved franchise,” said JP Bittencourt, vice president of marketing at Mountain Dew. “This design has been in the works for some time, so this is not a response to anybody.”A rebrand could also attract drinkers that have perhaps forgotten about Mountain Dew.

CNBC's Jim Cramer said Wednesday that as earnings season begins, it's wise to keep in mind that sometimes bad news is baked into a stock's price before the report. Cramer pointed to Wall Street's reaction to PepsiCo in the lead-up to, and wake of, its Tuesday report. He noted how shares dipped but managed to recover even though the company posted a revenue miss. While the snack and beverage maker did miss on revenue, it managed to beat earnings expectations. The company lowered its full-year outlook for organic revenue, citing weak demand in North America as shoppers buy fewer snacks.

Panera Bread has settled with the family of an Ivy League student with a heart condition who died after drinking the chain’s highly caffeinated Charged Lemonade drink. The suit said that Katz bought a Charged Lemonade from a Panera restaurant in September 2022. A second lawsuit blamed it for a Florida man’s death while the other two alleged that the Charged Lemonade caused permanent heart injuries in previously healthy people. The complaint said the Charged Lemonade also had guarana extract, another stimulant, as well as the equivalent of nearly 30 teaspoons of sugar in the large size. It also added prominent signs cautioning that Charged Lemonade contained caffeine, should be consumed in moderation and was not recommended for children, people sensitive to caffeine, pregnant or nursing women.

Spokespeople for General Mills, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo did not immediately respond to requests for comment. President Joe Biden has mentioned shrinkflation numerous times, declaring it a “rip-off” in a video he posted to X.
