Daniels, the Commanders’ rookie sensation, threw for 269 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers Sunday, continuing one of the most prolific starts to a career by a rookie quarterback in history. But in the present, it was Jackson, aided by running back Derrick Henry, who had enough to win one of the season’s most anticipated games, 30-23. Jackson threw for 323 yards with one touchdown and one interception, with nearly half his completions going to Zay Flowers (nine catches, 132 yards). Are we living through another Lamar Jackson MVP season? The Bears defense has also been phenomenal and will keep them in games even when Williams will inevitably struggle, as all rookies do. Full disclosure: One of my bold predictions entering the season was that Rattler would wind up taking Derek Carr’s job this season. The bigger concern is the Saints’ defense, which surrendered 600 yards and 50 points and allowed the Bucs to convert 6 of 10 third downs. It doesn’t matter who plays quarterback — the Saints defense has to put up some resistance.

— In their first and only debate of an unusually competitive Maryland Senate race Thursday, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and former Gov. Larry Hogan sparred over the issue of abortion and whether the deep blue state would be best represented by a staunch Democrat or an anti-Donald Trump Republican. Since 2023, most retirees must take required minimum distributions, or RMDs, from pre-tax retirement accounts starting at age 73. Brokerage assets could be subject to capital gains taxes, whereas pre-tax retirement funds incur regular income taxes. Unlike mutual funds, most ETFs don't distribute capital gains payouts, which can save brokerage account investors on annual taxes. There's no charitable deduction, but QCDs don't count toward adjusted gross income, meaning retirees don't need to itemize tax breaks to claim it.

After the positive flu result, health care workers started using more personal protective gear around the patient. Separately, as part of routine flu surveillance and not because doctors suspected anything unusual in the patient’s case, the hospital sent the patient’s flu sample to be tested for H5, which is the bird flu virus strain. Officials found that during the patient’s time at the hospital, 112 health care workers had interacted with them. After exposure to the bird flu virus, people typically develop symptoms within 3 to 5 days. All of that additional information on the health workers will be secondary to the blood tests results, Rivers said, and whether they show signs of a previous infection.

The Houston Astros will not appear in the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2016 after being eliminated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Automation is a core issue at play in the ongoing dockworker strike at Eastern US ports.
